Nidoking appreciates a flying and a dark type partner Mon to cover his weaknesses and you can build him for a tailwind and trick room team combo by giving him specific speed that let's him outspeed threats in both environments. Also love using starmie with nidoking for a bully switch as it tanks psychic and handles ice and water moves too while being able to spd punish with ice beam and thunder bolt and has heals with its recover and natural cure ability. Pelipper is a funny partner with Nidoking as it sets up rain for surf spam that many don't consider on king as he learns the move for some reason, he aslo has quake which pelipper naturally dodges letting king punish any electric types threatening the bird. Queen is a bit better for spc attack and surf spam but her spd is to awkward to work with as she's just a little to slow for tailwind set but strong for trickroom if that's your focus. I usually run poison point and rocky helmet on my nidoking for solo battle, letting him be a physical tank bully but I prefer doubles personally.
That's funny you say a flying dark mon, I'm using my nidoking in brilliant diamond with a murkrow partner that sets up tailwind and serves as utility after tailwind is set up. Not exactly able to punish the psychic types, but yeah tailwind nidoking is fun. I'm still working on the team though, I'm trying to do the battle tower master double battles. I think that's the biggest downfall of FireRed is the battle tower endgame isn't all that great in my opinion.
@jakesmith4760 yeah brilliant diamond has its flaws as a game but I think the battle tower is pretty great actually. They added a Masters rank game mode on top of the regular tower and it is pretty difficult actually and I have had some good times building teams for it (some people have built teams with very long win streaks but I like to experiment)

@fehnron92 you right, didn't know brilliant diamond had a battle tower I'll need to pick the game up.
