People have given this many names when I asked what they called it. Maybe this is called martian salad because it is.... (wait for it) ... out of this world. rim shot haha
The above names were given to me by various subscribers.
1 large box lime Jello
1 cup boiling water
1 8-ounce cream cheese, softened
1 8-ounce can crushed pineapple
1 8-ounce container Cool Whip
1 small pack pecan pieces
Mix one cup boiling water with Jello mix, then add softened cream cheese. Put in fridge for one hour to set. Beat in pineapple and juice, nuts and Cool Whip. Return to fridge in serving bowl. Chill until firm. ENJOY!!!
Thanks for watching.
aka lime jello salad
hula salad
Oh wow - this reminded me so much of one my mother in law used to make. I miss her. She took an 8oz container of cottage cheese, sprinkled the dry jello over it, mixed in the small container of cool whip, stirred in nuts and mandarin orange pieces. Thanks for reminding me of her in a sweet way; she's been gone since a month after my dad.
It's my favorite and on the jello box it was called lime jello desert. I loved that Furrs cafeteria always had it. Watergate salad is with pistachio pudding, pineapple, marshmallows and cool whip. I've seen one with lime jello, sweet condensed milk , cottage cheese and pineapple I've not tried yet. But I do remember mom adding cottage cheese to it because we all loved cottage cheese and it added more texture.
our family makes our lime jello salad with mayo, cottage cheese, lime jello, crushed pinapple and crushed walnuts. but there are a ton of different ways to make lime jello salad... this lady was funny though :)
My mom makes something similar to this. It is cottage cheese strawberry jello pineapples, cool whip and nuts if you like them. I always called it pink stuff as a kid but I love it and we have it at cook outs all the time. This is something I will definitely try!!! Thanks :)
My family makes a dessert called Watergate Salad, but it isn't anything like this. You use pistachio pudding, cool whip, marshmellows, pineapple and nuts....its a family favorite. Alien salad, however, looks stinking good!! And if its sugar free (I use the sugar free cool whip) it needs to be tried. :) Plus my daughter would love it just cuz it looks wild....lol! Thanks for sharing!!
Finally a normal person with a personality making a lime jello salad. Thank you.
My pleasure 😊 Thank you for being one of the very few people to actually leave a nice comment.
I'm so happy to find this. It was always served at Thanksgiving and/or Christmas when I was growing up. Unfortunately the recipe was lost and I'm the only one left in my family. We made it with 7up instead of the water. Thank you!
The birds got your attention telling they are groovy.😊♥️🌺🕊
My grandma made this exact recipe all of my life and always called it Lime Jello Salad. It's really delicious.
Looks delish, I wish we had cool whip here in the uk. Just googled it ;) lol and whipped cream beaten to soft peaks is the best alternative. But dang buying it in a tub would be much easier, dont ya think? Hope you have a Happy Easter Beth x
YUMMMY!!!!!! I make a "salad" I call Lumpy Bumpy Salad. Cottage cheese, jello powder, coolwhip, pineapples and madarin oranges.. YUMSTER! I have to try this one too :)
My grandmother made it. We didn’t know the name and called it The Green Stuff. Our recipe is slightly different. So good and only 10 zillion calories.
My aunt Joanne used to make this every year at Thanksgiving. We all called it “the green stuff” too - until she overheard one time, and quickly corrected us that it is actually called: SEAFOAM SALAD
It’s been etched in my brain since then. Hers also included some coloured marshmallows thrown in after the mixing was finished.
Soooooo yummy!
We always called it the green stuff too😂😂
We always requested this at Thanksgiving & Christmas and we called it Green Stuff ever since early 60's but we NEVER put in Cottage cheese, nuts, cabbage, horseradish & all the other stuff people add. We had it With meal & not as a desert.
Never tried this version. Looking fwd to it! My Georgia cousin makes one similar that uses strawberry jello with diced strawberries, pecans, cool whip and cottage cheese instead of cream cheese and it's very good. She also uses low fat and sugar free ingredients and no one can tell. My mom made a 3 layer jello mold that used lime jello and cream cheese as the middle layer so pretty and tasty!!
This is a great salad and I love it! You can put almost anything in there or substitute puddings, diff color jello, nuts, mini marshmallows, whatever. I have made it in all kinds of ways and it's always a winner. I am making one tomorrow with pistachio pudding, cool whip, pineapple, walnuts and mini marsh. Delish!
I know this as Watergate Salad, but with the addition of marshmallows and pistachio pudding. I think that Kraft may have developed the original recipe eons ago calling it Pineapple Delight but the name changed along with it's combo of ingredients somewhere along the way. Either way, it's really yummy and refreshing.
My grandma used to make this for the holiday gatherings and she called it Lime Jello Salad. That's the name Jello called it when they came up with the recipe, as far as I remember her saying. The pistachio one is different. You use 2 boxes of pistachio pudding instead of gelatin and you just dump the dry mix in plus cool whip, pineapple with the juice, mini marshmallows and chopped pecans and mix it all with a big spoon. That one is light and fluffy and quicker to make but both are delicious.
thank you so much for this recipe!!!! I've been using it at every birthday party and I have so many great compliments!
+Marcie C. you are so welcome! We love this very much!
A favorite of mine
Yum -will try it for sure !
Yep, watergate is made with pistachio pudding. There is also a watergate cake that uses pistachio too.
I would suggest you add a packet of unflavored Gelatin for each small Jello package I have found it sets quicker and faster and you can add any fruit you want with success. Two packets for the large size Jello package . Just put it into the Jello mix when you are preparing the Jello . Works like a charm.
How nice you get to hear birds singing so pretty all the time.....I always thought you owned birds because I've heard them in many of your videos. You should do a short video of the little noise makers :)
I've had something like this before and it was put in a mold. It was just called green salad and it was very delicious. oh and it had small pieces of celery instead of nuts
I used to make this but with cottage cheese and whipped cream the recipe did not call for nuts. I now always sub whipped cream instead of cool whip ( do not like cool whip) and always works.
I love the color of it!! Looks so yummy!!
I had this in high school totally love it! They used to add some nuts.. I think pecun
Glad you gave the recipe quickly and easy! Thanks!
The only difference I can remember was the woman who taught me to make it used ginger ale and pineapple juice to make the lime jello (maybe part water too) and also added sliced, seedless red grapes. Otherwise it is exactly the same. Thanks for uploading this :) I had forgotten how to make it and wanted it for Christmas :)
Blogrich55 I remember ginger ale or sprite but can’t remember how much. If anyone makes it with soda please share the measurements!
Easy and most of the ingrediants can be purchased in lowfat, I add walnuts and cut cherries for the Christmas holidays and walnuts and cut up mandarin pieces for Thanksgiving
Pistachio salad is exactly made like this n some people add marshmallows in it too. N whatever it's called all the matters is that it's delicious tfs...
This was always a family get-together staple in my house, and we just called it green Jell-o salad. I've also had people make this using small-curd cottage cheese in place of the cream cheese, and it's equally as yummy.
Shaun Dickey what's that recipe we made it that way
Shaun Dickey I’ve always seen it made with cottage cheese in my family too. Gonna have to try it with cream cheese this Christmas... I hope it’s just as good!!
Watergate salad is pineapple whipped cream pistachio pudding and marshmallow.... martian toss(salad) is lime jello pineapple juice cream cheese coconut juice and marshmallow(usually frozen in ice cube trays)... ambrosia is red jello made with a citrus juice and with suspended fruit and topped with whipped cream
I love ths stuff ! Never seen it made this way. I always called it Ambrosia Salad.
I remember it with a ginger ale kick.
Had this at thanksgiving finally found the recipe for it thanks so much
you're welcome :)
absolutely delicious I am going to make it thank you
One of my favorite desserts! Only I also add cottage cheese and top it with more crushed pecans. I just call it Lime jello mold salad because my sister in law used a jello mold for it.
I'm my family we call it "green jello salad" (we also have a red jello salad, one served Christmas Eve, the other Christmas Day), but I don't remember it every having any nuts. My mom says to drain the pineapple (per my great grama's recipe). My aunt adds marshmallows, and several in my family actually developed allergies to pineapple, so it's frequently omitted (I like it better without). We shifted from using cool whip to real whipped cream over the years. It's better, too. I'm currently trying to find a way to make this without jello brand gelatin, since I don't do well with artificial food coloring. I'm thinking some sort of lime syrup & gelatin...
What's not to like? YUMMY! Love ya, Ang
Looks like a pudding, thank you
I love this!! Thanks for posting. :-)
This is kind of a variation on ambrosia salad (without marshmallows). I looked through my circa 1960's ? Joys of Jello book and couldn't find this exact recipe in it.
I think Martian salad it will remain. :)
That looks interesting Yummy!
My mom made lime Jello salad but used pear and cream cheese and without pineapple and nuts.
This recipe has been a family favorite for over 50 years. Our name for it is a little odd.... Dad called it "Heavenly Goo"...and that's the name that stuck, and although he's been gone for some time now, that's the name that everyone knows it by. We traditionally used walnuts, or butternuts, because that's what grows around here, but we use pecans now too. I would like to know the real name for it....but to our family it will always be "Heavenly Goo".
I call this "funeral salad" because it was always served as funerals as a kid. Now I don't have to wait until someone dies to eat it!
This is the Best
Thanks for sharing! Just a word of caution, tho, about artificial sweeteners...especially aspartame and now, neotame. They are neurotoxic.and can cause infertility. There's a video here on youtube called "Sweet Misery". I would recommend everyone watch it. Also women who have had trouble conceiving are recommended to stop using artificial sweeteners and then usually have success afterwards.
Artificial sweeteners upset your natural ability to gauge hunger. As for Cool Whip - is there anything natural actually in it? Go with natural ingredients and just eat smaller portions or less frequently. Far better for you.
I have made a similar dessert/salad instead of the cream cheese, it has cottage cheese and regular whipped cream instead of cool whip. name of this never had one that i know of.
I Love Watergate Salad !!!!!! But I have never made it. I always make my Sister make it. :0)
My Mom also added a scoop of cottage cheese. Very good.
My Aunt calls it Under the Sea Salad.
Interesting! My aunt calls it SEAFOAM SALAD!
We used to call it Green Stuff! I swear!
Yeah I know that's good. I've eaten it a 100 times! HA! Hugs!
Hi I make and is delicious, other person added evaporated milk I make and I don’t like.yours taste original thanks
You the best
@mami143cg P.S. I followed ur direction on how to make it!! =p it came out great!! I will be making this again!!
I would know if it was sugar free as I have severe gastroparesis and would vomit. I love lime Jell-O but I need to type with regular sugar in it. Thank you for the recipe though I'm going to make it for st. Patrick's Day :-)
not Watergate salad. It has pistachio pudding. this is called a Jello cream salad. it can be made with any flavor as well.
Never heard of this one, is it good?????
I made the recipe sp10ify put on here because my mom has been dying to have that Luby's recipe! It was awesome! She loved it! =) thank you!!
That is NOT Watergate Salad!
But, it looks GREAT!
ever hear of the nippy salad? Lime jello, crushed pineapple, cottage cheese, horseradish. If so, wdyt?
Is this similar to Congealed Salad?
Martian salad !
Is delicious I do all the time mmmmm
Blessings
I have to say...looks kind of ....... but for you, I'd try it. except for it's all the way over there in hawaii and I'm all the way over here in louisiana. maybe there will be a reason I need to make it one day and will try it then...LOL
mike
do you just eat it whit a spoon like icecream or what ? :)
I would suggest asking the cream cheese and Jell-O. Using the hand mixer causes so much splatter and goes everywhere.🙀
looks like a great topping for cupcakes
xoexo
Interesting, Is it a dip? How do you eat it?
>_< I'm in heaven!
GREEN FLUFF
I will know the difference because anything with artificial sweetener including Splenda and Stevia make me ill to my stomach. I assume I can use a regular box without being sugar free
If you take 4 tablespoons of the whipped topping, all separated, all with 0g of sugar, they would still have 0g of sugar when added together.
So this is more or less just served as a dessert?
It's a7up salad... you put 1/2 cup 7up in place of water and no coolwhip.... though some 7up salad recipes call for coolwhip.
@CookingAndCrafting Lol ehm skinny country?? with all the fish n Chips we eat? hahaha oh no tht just me :))))
Can you describe the over all taste? i've never had it, not sure if I want to make up a whole batch to find out.
"Sea Foam Salad" (included walnuts)
Where do you get the jelly
Yes, I know how to use a mixer. You couldn't dish out a serving ? Then, Cool Whip on top ?? Come ON !!!
It’s called SEAFOAM SALAD
Watergate!
Lime fluff
@CookingAndCrafting Lol ehm skinny country?? Not :))))
One package of this, one package of that and one package of this, is not a recipe. A package can be any size. What's available can be different depending where you live and even as time goes by. You should be more precise with your measurements if you want to share a recipe.
And if you look into the description of the video, you'd be aware of exactly what sizes you will need. And you're welcome for sharing my precise measurement recipe.
