Just bought the '22 version of this one, from what I read much improved geometry/dynamics. I was a bit hesitant but OMG is this an AMAZING bike. The suspension is just right for me at 195 lbs, the reach is just right, the bosch drive system is amazing I got home after a hard hard 1h45m ride with 2200 ft climb in eMTB mode and a 30 min ride home on the road at max Turbo boost mode with 70% battery remaining when I got back. The handing is spot of sweet spot between enduro and trail; it's actually a fantastic compromise of handling characteristics. LOVE the bike. Better in almost all aspects than the Rocky Mountain Altitude Powerplay A70 I tried!
Hey Rob Rides Emtb! Thanks for sacrificing yourself testing those bikes on your favorite trails to bring us these videos! You should know by now I'm going to ask about the hubs? Are they name brand or some generic hubs that cube sneaks in when nobody is looking and could cause expensive problems later on? Almost ran into a juvenile black bear on a neighborhood downhill trail me and some friends where blazing down last Saturday night! Came round a corner and slammed the breaks on and yelled at the bear I saw mid trail 15 meters ahead of me! I skidded to a stop about 7 meters from the bear and it took off into the bushes at the trails edge! My helmet light and yell must have freaked it out! My buddies and I didnt want to hang around so we took off further down the trail! Mega adrenaline rush! Ride ride ride!
Rob, excellent review and supports my choice for Joan, my partner, who is new to biking. Nice that you went entry level and where many will be. I wanted exactly the mix you suggest with more of a trail orientation plus comfort for longer trails. The price for the package is excellent. On the down side is it’s weight, not for riding but hefting around. I have a Trek Rail 9.7 which is similar on paper (ok, a 29’er) but notably lighter and as a medium quite roomy for my 5’ 9” height. The Cube is a small but very compact. I’d appreciate your thoughts on the Trek Rail some time. Both bikes, incidentally, have the new Bosch upgrade. Took the Trek to Box Hill yesterday and the difference is significant as you’d expect. Keep up the great testing. Best, Ian
It's compression damping that determines comfort because it's that that allows the suspension to absorb bumps or not. After all, the compression damping adjuster is where you'll find the lock out setting.
I own a 140 (paid 3600€) and my friend a 160 (paid 4100€) , both bought 4 months ago. We both are new to mountainbiking and we ride trails and some downhill (small jumps and drops of 40-50cm) - 140 rides realy smooth over bumps, but is not as agressiv in turnes as the 160. Therefor i bought a shorter stem (140 had 60mm0° [changed to 50mm30°], 160 has 50mm0°) and I`m realy happy now (made the steering more direct and faster) - The 140 feels a little better in climbing over rocks with the 29", but has a dissadvantage over the 160 with the tires that have a little larger profile. - The brakes of the 140 have more initial bite that you have to get used to, the 160s is more refined. Overall we are both realy happy with our bikes and we ride the same stuff, for us beginners its more our skill that limits us, than the bikes
Thx Rob for the great review as always! Got my (lucky?) hands on one of the 2021 with the new Zeb fork & Kiox before they are sold out. Pickup this week first ride next weekend! i chose this one over the 140 due to 27.5 vs 29, find it more "fun" to "efficient" but should future rides dictate i could change it up to a mullet due to the 44mm setup :)
Great vid as always Rob! A suggestion. You ride many routes on many different locations. How about saying where you are (as you did in this vid) and listing the route names. Im not suggesting listing them per section, but just in the description, like for instance i saw the familiar “Telegraph poles” section... just a thought
Hei, wow the video quality gets better and better. So much cuts. A lot of work nice to see. Only 1 question . When you feature the 2021 spezialized e-bikes? Greetings from Norway. And man the trails that you ride looking so clean no root and rocks like here every where
In Australia, our local distributor 99 Bikes sold out of this bike a while back. Im now waiting on the 2021 range which Im told will be coming Sep/Oct. The guy at 99 said they are bringing in 2 models, the 'Race' & 'ActionTeam'. The ActionTeam priced at $8300 AU could be the one.
I got the 2020 140 TM for the same price. Thought it was great spec at original £4700, practically bit their hand off at the lower price! Had it for 3 months now & can't fault it for local riding area (South Downs). Going to bring it to Surrey Hills soon, and hopefully give it a proper workout in the Lakes later this summer
Today, I've sold my 160 tm, because everything besides the spec on paper, is not a good quality. It rides nice, but after every ride, you need to check every screw. Now I've got the KTM Macina Kapoho prestige 2020.

Sorry I don’t have a link. The black and grey bikes are coming out now but they’re selling out really fast. I’ve bought mine from a local bike shop. £4099. The Olive and black bike may not be out until October.
Aaah, the confusion of torque and power. Something that is all too common. Power is volts (rpm) x torque (amps). To keep it easy torque is that instant hit we feel on acceleration which can cause wheelspin. Power is continuous and peak and is what gets us there at speed. Much the same confusion I often hear with power (Watts) vs energy (Wh). Still, an enjoyable video. I was interested to see what you thought as I have the Action Team HPC 2019. Cheers.
Rob Rides EMTB No worries. It’s a pedantic point, but the engineer in me likes to see it right. Power, Energy, Torque are often muddled. With an electric bike voltage translates to rpm at the motor, more volts more rpm, Amps is current the motor draws and translates to torque. The product of volts x amps is power. In terms of the battery the stored energy is in Wh. The voltage of the battery times it’s Ah rating gives the Wh. I find Wh/mile a good way to gauge the difficulty of my ride, which varies over the seasons and the losses from the battery to the thrust at the back wheel, which relates to the efficiency map of the complete system. Keep up the good videos.
Great review, great pictures, great angles, great overall (neutral) perspective. Top job! Are the 2020 still for sale in the UK? Wanting the XL version myself now!
I would like to see 140 vs 160 review. I am in between and still haven't decided yet cause their prices are so close. I have a non electric 120 Stereo with 130mm front and I was wondering if a 140 would be too close, and so, with no much difference from what I already own, but nevertheless better in some few steep hiking goat trails or 160 would be a better overall choice for the times I come to face a goat trail or a trail with more chunky stones. Hey all. Thoughts on the Cube 2020 ebike range? Lots of bike for the money, right?!

Very nice bike! Would choose a 29 inch trail version instead personally though.
