I'm getting nauseated and anxious just by you explaining the complexity of your setup. You setting something like this up and working it whilst doing a thousand things besides makes me feel like a prehistoric peasant in the sudden presence of God
I think we all do and the healthy thing to do is to ask yourself how old are you at the moment and think that Chris is 48 and that you have a lot of time to learn and figure things out. Me being almost 23 and dying here, realizing that I have 25 years to learn things...
yeah and I thought it was complex trying to set up tutorial cams and screens on streamlabs... 😆 I like this way more though since I can edit in post... Realllllly wish I Streamlabs could export separate files
Also one thing to consider is one doesn’t just walk first thing into a complicated set up. It starts off very small and manageable, as with their first walkthroughs, and then it gets more complicated. So you sort of “grow with” the process versus walking directly into something complicated.
Always love your videos, Christian. It was lovely break to transition to Homay working along side you in your shed. How cool! All of you at Spitfire work great as a team! Looking forward to what you will be releasing this year.
Hi Christian, name is Ray (Floatwithme) and I am a Dutch composer. First of all walking is great with the dog, sets your mind away onto new things to explore and many projects that keep you busy from a business perspective. I just love you guys from Spitfire. For me your company, Ideas and virtual instruments are like walking as a little kid trough a candy shop with the unlimited amount of posibilities as a composer to tell your story trough sound. Thank you very much for the walktroughs of Albion, I just love it, and all the products are absolute superb and the best in the market. I wish you and your team all the best and lots of new creative Ideas for 2020. Nothing more then respect. Cheers Ray (The Netherlands).
Christian, any chance that you can do a walkthrough on how to be so darn productive! I seem to be immensely good at working bloody hard at achieving very little :) any help greatly received. Oh, and a happy new year to you, seems like its kicking off at the same pace 2019 ended for you in the Spitfire aerodrome.
Love this. Super interesting seeing the color correction turned on and off. I don't even correct mine, and was surprised at how different your raw footage looks!
Wow! Watched so many Spitfire videos, and always assumed this room was in Spitfire HQ. Never realised it was a shed! Incredible setup, and thanks for a fascinating walkthrough of the walkthroughs 🙂
These videos here & Spitfire videos are brilliant for me, as I will never be able to afford Spitfires or any other company's software (got free Labs), or any decent equipment, but at least with your informative video channels I can learn & pretend I have the best job in the world. Two years since I pushed myself into buying a 61 key casio to learn piano and finding I love playing music, so now Casio is the midi control along with Reaper DAW, second hand PC & monitor, free software, sample etc. Like many others, it's now an obsession that's out of control. Always loved movie soundtracks, TV shows with orchestral scores. from big sounds to ethereal background music. So thanks to you and all the team for sharing......
Thanks for sharing Christian, such a wonderful insight.. the best part is to have such a talented Homay doing that final step, keep up the good work guys !!
Homay is charming as always and I'm looking forward to seeing her first walkthrough. The condition of your shed does my heart good but I've been meaning to ask "what are those clear cubes you usually have on your desk"? The one that has some kind of star shaped object in it looks cool.

really can't wait to see the new Albion! way to go Christian! :D
For your card reader request- would help for you to post your blackmagic disk bench score for your main method- then others can chime in on theirs to see if it is truly faster then going direct.
Hi Christian long time watcher first time poster here, the AFT EXS3 card reader is very fast, its built for the professional photo kiosk industry, might not be what your looking for but from my experience with them they are very good. Hope this helps. p.s They require x2 usb 3 A-B for connectivity.
Per the card reader question: just because it´s usb-c it´s no quarantee that it is actually running at any speed, and it seems that many manufacturers abuse the fact that people think the standard is connected to a defined data protocol when it isn’t. I’ve found many usb-c products that didn’t even offer USB 3.0! The real thing to look for in a card reader is probably that it is Thunderbolt or USB 3.2. Does your Macintosh support Thunderbolt? I know that the IOGEAR 6-Slot SD Card Reader (GTR360) supports Thunderbolt 3 and suposedly has a max transfer speed of 40Gbps. I’ll probably buy it at some point this year
That IOGEAR looks nice. I notice the Thunderbolt 3 cable is permanently attached to the card reader. I wonder if that's to prevent people from unknowingly putting longer USB-C cables that can't support the full 40Gbps. I only recently read up on the differences between active and passive Thunderbolt 3 cables, and which ones can support the fastest USB transfers.
Don't forget about the speed limit on the actual SD Cards! They will never benefit from having the Thunderbolt protocol or anything above 100-300 mb/s.
@@cornerliston damn you, you're right of course! I guess it's only when all six are spinning along simultaneously that you get any use of the speed, and even then, you're not even close to the theoretical speed limit. But might there be a difference in real life, compared to theory? I know that my internet connection speeds almost never go up to the supposed speed I've paid for, but they are still always faster than what I had before
Re Arrow (and Namm) Christan you should try and find your way to the Townsend lab-booth. The L22 is a groundbreaking microphone and plays well with the UAD interfaces. If nothing else get one and give it to Homay.
I am half way through, and this is already my favourite Christian video of all time. Anybody who puts this much effort into proving that he's a knob like us, is the either the greatest charlatan in history, or a genuine Knob. (like us).
This may have been mentioned before but, my guess as to why the transfer speed is best through the built in reader is because it is directly addressing a PCIe 4x buss where the USB type readers have to go through the USB buss before they hit the PICe buss. My only guess to circumvent this problem would be to find a card reader that is a thunderbolt (Type C) device as that should have a more direct connection to the PICe buss than any UBS (type C or otherwise) device would. There are some other considerations too, they type of flash on those SD cards could be a limiting factor as to how fast they can be read, and how many PCIe busses are being used already by any other thunderbolt devices. I know on my old Trashcan Pro even though it had 6 Thunderbolt 2 ports they were split between 3 Thunderbolt busses (I.e. 2 ports per buss) and that caused problem when half of a buss was in use for something else.
Note you've reverted to a multiple computer monitor set up. How's that working for you? What size screen do you guys consider ideal for a single monitor set up? Finally, the cat is asking when it is going to be let out...?
Hi Christian, once again thanks for the insight and all that you, Paul and the team do. Plus like everybody else I can't wait to see the new product.... Random question for you, how big is your shed? also was it a bespoke job or an off the shelf purchase? Regards Paul
A few things I noticed, your studio is pretty good with some great gear in it, Homay has a very pretty face and sits well on camera and finally, you haven't released an outtake video of your vlogs lol
Hey Christian - I'm unsure if you've talked about this before (or if you're just tired of fielding this question on an individual basis), but because you mentioned "We have never been able to offer trials of our software", I'm curious if you could expand upon that. I have an immense amount of appreciation for the difficulty of setting up software trials (I work in game development) - I was just curious about Spitfire's particular roadblocks. I imagine managing a glut of massive downloads from the server end would probably be more trouble than its worth.
Mathew Solomon hi there. The reason is Konstantinos doesn’t offer this function along securely so if we were to introduce this function it is likely to be in our plugin. Then yes, we would have to consider AWS charges.
It seems like you are using warp stabilizer to make your footage stable in the post, if so there are some settings that could give you better result. Use 1% of stabilization, position scale rotation mode, and check the detail analyse box. PS huge thanks for your videos)
You are a bit stuffed with the video transfer times CH, the cards themselves are the bottleneck these days. The next step would be to move up to the BM recorders to record direct to SSD - Hyperdeck Studio (as opposed to the Minis that you have now), or the new Video Assists which have USB-C port that will record direct to Samsung T5's etc. (plus you get a nice monitor thrown in). Not affiliated in any way, just use their gear.
Hi Christian, which keyboard were you talking about? I'm stuck between the M32 AND A49 at the moment. Have a month or so to decide and those two seem to be the best option at the moment. Thanks and looking forward to the new Albion!
Hi Christian could u please tell me if your synth keyboard rack/shelf is DIY from a normal furniture or is it professionally designed for keyboards? Thanks!
I really want to go to NAMM but upon research was disappointed that you have to be a professional in the industry to go. Oh well, please let us know how it goes!
AynenMakino keep the ISO low; despite the brightness of a couple lights that are on Christian (for blemishes 😉), the room is overall not hugely bright compared to daylight. A suspect low ISO might mean a minimal ramp up in shutter speed.
@@TheCrowHillCo Well, technically there's no 'wrong' way of doing it, as long as the picture looks the way you want it to look. And there's usually multiple ways of getting there.
@@TheCrowHillCo I figured I should probably be a bit less vague. So with image brightness there's a lot of ways you can get to the brightness you want. Shutter speed, F-stop, frames per second, ISO setting and studio lighting all impact it. And that leaves post-processing and make-up out of it. (You'd be amazed at what some simple foundation can do for your blemishes) Thing is, if you want a big-budget look, like in the movies, you'll want to stick to 24 frames a second and a shutter speed of about double that. That gives you the same amount of motion blur as you get in Holliwood movies, and people associate that with big budget productions. Setting the shutter speed and frame-rate higher gets you a more tv-look, a crisper image with less motion blur. The lower the frame-rate and shutter speed, the more light can enter the sensor, so the less light you need in your studio. Beyond that, keeping the ISO as low as possible means the dark areas of the frame look less grainy. So if you want to work with a high ISO setting you'll want to light up the whole scene more if you don't want grainy-looking dark areas. You said your goals are to make your skin look smooth and the have a view of some of your studio in the background. If you want to go for the filmic look, your FPS and shutter speed will be locked at 24fps and about 50 respectively, so you'll need to use the other factors to create the brightness you want. If the filmic look isn't important, you'll have fps and shutter speed to play with as well to get the look you're after. Hope that helps.
Just in case you may not be aware of the rule of introducing another camera rig, and that is not to break the 180 degree rule with the placement. This means cam 3 must be kept on the same line as the others, or within the 180 degrees. On a personal note: After ten years of using Logic Pro 9 to X, and having passed just one course for Logic Pro 9, I was gutted to find out about pre fader metering, and how it can ruin mixes if not used properly by gain staging. Apart from this I feel I'm compotent in most aspects of Logic that I need to use, and I continue to learn new tips from this channel to get better. With card readers, Black Magic may have introduced new card readers.
