@@ChadeoYT It helps to have been alive at the time, recognizing the name - and pulling up the Wiki page as a reminder! I was a teenager at the time! Also, an elderly friend of mine was a great fan of his and of Russian history. She would not have been surprised at recent events.
There was a disparity in wealth of the leaders and their peasants. The people in charge could get an extra 30 potatoes a week. It can only be an upward direction when you reach that state of affairs. Even if you had the money to buy a tv, you waited in a queue for at least a year.
