Dr. Duke is an amazing teacher. I also bought the green pharmacy as my first herbal medicinal book. His legacy will live on and I hope one day I get to visit his gardens.
Curcuma longa/turmeric & galangal are varieties of ginger so they are true gingers. There is something like 1600 known varieties of ginger with many hybrids under each variety. Most are edible but in the US we barely use any of them.
In Asia, they use many many more in their diet. I grow about 50 diff varieties. I live in Florida so I don't have to put most of mine in a greenhouse. I do have to protect some of the more tropical ones.
Great video. I have the medium HR as well and am a goldenrod fan. Will have to try this, thanks. I just read recently that if you vacuum seal your tincture jars, it will result in infusing the material much more readily into the menstruum and result in a much faster (3x?) tincture time. I’m now doing this in mason jars with the vac seal.
Turmeric stained fingers….lol….too funny and definitely a memorable one.
Hi
Such a lovely and informative video.
Good to see people like you projecting the importance of Food in our lives.
Couldn't find link if anyone wants to buy machine for Freez drying.
Thanks again
We plan on growing galangal in our permaculture orchard. Growing it since I love curry and want to make our own curry dehydrated powder and sauces.
I love roots and love this!
And I love finding medicinal books that also have recipes that use what you are learning about!
Great video ❤
I am just looking into more herbs for my medicine and I have been following you and thank you for sharing I have learned a lot
Enjoyed the video and all of the information. Can't wait to freeze dry some turmeric and ginger.
Love dehydrating …

Have a podcast? I could listen all day!
I see you both have your Aprons on. All professional attire for the moment.
Hello! I’m wondering if you’ve freeze dried just leaves of herbs like parsley mint or sage? If so how’s it work out? How long does it take? I’m worried it may over do…. Thanks So Much!💚
At what temp do you set the freeze dryer when doing herbs? Thank you so much for the videos❤
When will you get into the bees this spring?
Nice hair style
Does FD-ing change the amount of the herb you should take medicinally vs air/heat dried?
Is heat a factor when drying? Do you have to set the F dryer at a certain temp?
Thank you for this! I have a question.....I have not been able to find fresh medicinal herbs where I live and due to Chronic illness I can't forage or do a garden. So the only option I have available is dried bulk herbs. I was wondering if you have tried freeze drying dried or powered herbs? I want to buy some and freeze dry them to put in storage. Just not sure if it will work. If you have any info that would be awesome! Thank you
Does using freeze dried herbs change the ratio when making tinctures with them? Or do you still use a 1:5 ration like with dehydrated herbs? I'm asking because you said the freeze dryer is removing more moisture than the dehydrator, so have you noticed a difference in the amount of liquid needed in the tincture?
Ive been looking into freeze dryers for my own 'herbal' concoctions and have heard nothing but good things about the Harvest Right, do you guys like yours?
I am in love with mine. It is a game changer on not only food preservation but also for preserving the medicinal properties and taste of herbs!!!
Been thinking of buying my own as well but I have concerns about the noise level and also does the machine release any heat when in use? Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
@@viosabarileva8810 I have a new HR freeze dryer. It’s a good unit and lots of fun but there can be issues. The most common known one is the vacuum failure. Just had this myself. Lots of info on it out there. Research first. And yes, it does give off a fair amount of heat and is loud. We have ours in an unheated, insulated room in an outbuilding (like a summer kitchen) and when the room was at about 72 F. (Canada) I got the “room is too warm warning” which I thought was weird. You need fans to move out the heated air. This was in the fall too. I will run mine in every season but summer, as it would be too hot. In winter, with outside temps about 32 F or lower, if the unit is on in this room, the room temp goes up to about 72 F in this unheated room. Without the FD on, it would be at about 42 F in there. This room also has freezers in it (3) that don’t give off much heat when it’s cool out. I now have a camera set up on the unit so I can watch it from inside my house for any problems.
🥰🥰🥰
Did you see a hike up on the cost of your electricity with using your freeze dryer?
I can answer this from my experience. I’ve compared my electric kWh bills from this fall/winter to the previous year and have seen no discernible rise in electrical consumption with my new FD, since Sept./22. Our rates are high at over $0.16/kWh. CAD. It has been a mild winter though and the heat pump has not been on much. HR has info on this question on their website.
Where can I buy Galangal starts?
you could try in the nearest asia shop or ebay or amazon, sometimes normal supermarkets carry them as well (at least most times you can get ginger there which is in the same family). And any root will do as long as the have eyes to grow
you are WhatsApp call mum you are always Ayurvedic medicine
#Kaylee I messaged you on IG I have a perplexing question for you..lol
