So, you've proven that you're human by showing your mistakes and how to fix them! Great video as always. I need to do this because I've just been storing them randomly in drawers and then forget what drawer they are in...
As a beginner getting ready to dive into getting my shop set up to start working on projects, i must say i really appreciate the fact that you bring to our attention that mistakes are made even to the most experienced of woodworkers. it truly shows your character!!! kudos to you sir!! you've earned a subscriber.
Your "let's get to do some sanding... yay." perfectly describes how I feel about sanding too lol. This and the Japanese water stone project are definitely my two new favorites. Thanks for the videos!
What a fantastic case, with a bit of re-work could be good for drill bits and all sorts of ideas, thank you. I have always fancied using those heavy magnets for latching, but weary of how far to put them inside to make sure they hold fast, I am sure a nice brass latch would look great too.
The glass alone looks killer but man that whole case looks incredible. Great job Johnathan. I think it’s great to see RUclips makers showing their mistakes and how they fix them. Very nice to see that as hard as it can be to admit that there were mistakes made.
Love the way you show us the mistakes you make. It shows how we can fix ours without wasting a whole piece. Hope you will continue with this. The cabinet looks great, will have to try it.
The coolest thing about your videos is hope for us beginner woodworkers especially when it comes to making mistakes! I'm attempting to make my first jewelry box for my mom right now out of Cherry and Quilted Maple.. This will be a first for me, but at least I got the hand cut dovetail process down thanks to my semester in the Katz Moses School of Dovetails!
Him my name is Bryan, and I am a router bit addict. It'a been 12 days since my last buy! Great looking cabinet and storage solution. And not truer words have ever been said about being able to fix your mistakes. Right on Brother!
Beautiful build, thank you for sharing! I really appreciate all your hard work. Your videos are both informative and entertaining. I’m a trim and cabinet installer for my living, and woodworking is also a hobby for me. Your videos help me in both my professional work, and in my spare time. I cut my first dovetail by hand after being inspired by you, and that makes me want to give a huge THANK YOU to you! Admittedly I need some more practice, but that sounds like a great excuse for me to play in my shop. I can’t say it enough, so thanks again!
That glass engraving bit is amazing! Thank you for sharing. The Whiteside ultimate flush trim bit is also great. I wish Whiteside would make a smaller version with a quarter inch shank.
I’ve done the same thing with a misplaced dado, and also with a misplaced mortise for bed rail hardware. Both I found the best matching wood I could and glued it right in there, it breaks my heart every time I look at the pieces, but i’m the only one that knows; as is the curse of building your own furniture. Thanks for the opportunity to win a bit buddy. I live across the country now cause California was bleeding me dry, but I used to live 30mins from you, wish I would have reached out when I lived over there. Anywho, thanks again man.

Things like that are what sets outstanding craftsmen apart from the rest. I always enjoy your work. Now I’m really jealous after you showed the glass engraving on the CNC.
Jonathan, thx for the end bit about all the mistakes. I’m sitting here watching thinking, God this guy never messes up, how do I get that good? I’m happy to see that even you make mistakes, now I just have to learn how to fix mine better! 😂👍🏻
Great result. I think your channel is some of the best woodworking content on RUclips right now. It seem you have definitely found your own style and it's great!
Great video. That table saw sled and stop block look great. Will you be doing a video on it soon? Time to rebuild mine and thinking about grabbing your stop block.
I will certainly give a try at making this router bit cabinet. Thought I'd pick your brain on an idea. I like the "scary sharp" system from time to time, and you have to buy a piece of float glass and it always seems in danger of breaking in the shop since there's no good place to store it. Do you think it would work out if you put two pieces of glass in the door; a bottom fixed piece, a stile, and a top piece that's float glass that you remove whenever you're going to have sharpening day? I thought, it's a good use of the glass when not sharpening, a safe place to store it and readily available when you want to sharpen chisels and plane irons. What's your thoughts on that?
Awesome !! Beautiful work !!great video Thank you! Love your Transparency at the end of the video!! A good woodworker knows how to fix his mistakes and move forward,
Really like your channel helpful and informative. Looks like a very useful trim bit. I've used Whiteside bits for years (excellent quality). Just to give you feedback... I bought your dovetail jig a while back. It is a very helpful tool.
"the way it holds my bits" Hahahahah! Nice work! I love that you shared your mistakes, shows you're human. This is how you learn. You know Veritas makes a miniature router plane that works great for mortising little hinges ; )
This is the first video of yours that I’ve watched and I subscribed immediately. The piece you made is beautiful, I absolutely love it. But more than that I really appreciate you sharing your mistakes at the end. I worked on a blanket chest in the shop for a couple hours and everything was going perfectly until rolled the end of my board on the jointer and lost a nice chunk of it. But my mind went straight to how I could fix it, so when I saw the end of your video it put it big smile on my face. Great work!
Jonathan, that is a very cool project. I also want to thank you for going over mistakes. It is extremely helpful as I'm a bit of a perfectionist, but can't stand starting over because of something minor.
Beautiful. I'm loving your minimalist finishing approach --lacquer is beautiful... Impressive how it highlights the grain and leaves an awesome finish. Dude... no mask when spraying? Thanks for being an inspiration! Haven't used your jigs yet, but I will... soon! They're on my bench....
I have a chase patio lounge that needs top board replaced. The top board has slats going into the side of it for the back. What bit or how would I cut the slots for the slats to fit into to repair this? Thank you.
Seems counter intuitive to think you'd have a chance to use it before I did. That's a prototype. The red pieces came in. Just waiting on the angled ones.
Some of the bits seem to be a bit tall for each shelf, do you think perhaps you should have made them pull out shelf's? Just looks like the ones that get put in the back might be hard to get out/put in. Awesome design though, love it, esp the etched glass. I am just starting to get into routing, so I suspect eventually I'll need some sort of organizer as well. I'll keep this in mind for sure!
I could see in your shop that you have a lot of really amazing tools in your collection. So why are you still using spray cans rather than a spray gun? Was there a big learning curve when you bought your CNC and do you make your own templates(programs)?
Dude!! That case came out kick ass man. I really love the glass etching. I have yet to tackle my first dovetail, but I'm hoping in the near future to buy your jig to make things easier for me. Thanks again for sharing home skillet!
That turned out nice. Great work! I was wondering, could you engrave/etch the backside of some glass and go over it with contrasting paint to make it stand out?
That cabinet looks great ! Just a minor remark about it though. How are you going to take out a small bit that is in the back when there are several other placed in front of it. I mean, you glued everything so you can't take the shelf out. I'm not an expert, but i was just wondering about it because i have big hands. And i would have a lot of trouble getting that bit in the back.
Wow all those mistakes, hmmm I would be happy to take that case off your hands so you don't have to suffer the heartache every time you look at it. Awesome job man, really love that glass front.
Always love your videos. Your camera and editing style is spot on. Also thank you for pointing out the flaws at the end. Too often we just see the finished product from the perfect angle and it's nice to know we are all have our moments! Great looking cabinet fella. Always good to know mistakes are made even by the best! Glass drag but gave an awesome finish... I’d get one, but then I’d need to add the CNC machine to it too!

When you mentioned the mistakes, I put my hands over my ears and, in a very loud voice, said 'NAH NAH NAH NAH' so I couldn't hear it. Most of my bits are in a box that has a large plastic window in the lid which looks cool, but soooo much less cool than your new case.
Hey Jon, I wonder why you don't use a spray gun to apply the polyurethane to your builds. The spray cans lost pressure so fast, at least from my point of view.
I use lacquer and absolutely hate polyurethane. Lacquer is great stuff for high use applications. I use an HVLP gun on bigger projects but for stuff like this the rattle cans work great. This project used about half of a 6 dollar can.
