An excellent cover of one of Neil Young's best known songs. It is from the Reel Time Studio's in 1989. Credit goes to those at smashingpumpkins.com and RSPAA for the track.
I like all three versions that I have heard, Type O Negative's is more gothic, Smashing Pumpkins is more like well smashing pumpkins, awesome, and of course you cannot screw with the original by the ever classic Rock N Roll Pioneer Neil Young!!
LOL,,,,love all the in-fighting over who is best with this cover. The original is a masterpiece,,,,,and every cover is a great compliment to Neil. No need to fight or point fingers....a great song is a great song.
I was nineteen when this was released by Young and Crazy Horse. That original version is sublime but if this was the only version I'd heard I'd buy it. As for Type O Negative . . . the singer puts me off, although I like the instrumental arrangement they put to it. Anyway, TON offers a different flavour that many people appreciate.
@WarmothGuitarist Pre-Gish the Pumpkins played this song in a number of live shows along with a number of other covers because they didn't have that many of their own songs as they'd not really been together that long. They played it on WZRD Chicago along with an excellent cover of Venus In Furs. arch ive . org/details/tsp1989-03-16.shn
2:38 hahahahaha I wonder what that was about. Can’t make out exactly what they’re saying but “FUCK THAT UP”/“FUCKED IT UP” is for sure a part of the statement. Personally I heard “HOW DID YOU FUCK THAT UP?” - Sounds like it was Billy saying it too, and knowing him, that’s not out of the realm of plausibility at all lmao Can’t believe they kept that in the recording, fucking hilarious
Neil Young Is The Original To Create This Song in '69 and I believe The Pumpkins Covered This In Late Late 80s Garage Days.. Years Before SPOONMAN aka Soundgarden! -Josh A. Cyr (From Maine)
wow, I like it. I wish Billy hadn't cut his hair, it was gorgeous. When I first saw him, he was bald, and I thought he would look wierd with hair. But seeing their earlier stuff, I think he looks better with hair.
I dig Type O Neg a little bit but I gotta say it's SP that does it best. I haven't heard much from Lana Del Rey but apparently her new album also has a cover of it.
@grimmpoxer Ok, the singer from Styx? how about the singer from Chicago? and since were talking about where they were from originally, Eddie Vedder was originally from Evanston IL,
@CCRockit Thank you for reminding me of how bad Dennis DeYoung and Peter Cetera are as singers. You're proving my point better than I could. I'll give you Eddie Vedder. He's good.
@CCRockit Robin Zander, the lead singer, is from Wisconsin. Rick Nielson is from Illinois, and while he can play his @rse off on the guitar, he (mercifully) doesn't sing.
@CCRockit Richard Manuel, Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Marvin Gaye, Graham Parker, Paul McCartney, Otis Redding, Emmylou Harris, Smokey Robinson, the Beach Boys (collectively - tho I could do without Mike Love), Eva Cassidy, Lowell George, Freddie Mercury, James Taylor, Bono, Van Morrison, Luke Kelly, Shane MacGowan, Chris Collingwood, Glady Knight and Nick Lowe. I really don't have anything against Illinois singers. Just Corgan, Cronin, DeYoung and Cetera.
@Bayview05 A cover is supposed to put the bands own twist on the song. Type o negatives version was a very good balance between the original song and their own version. This Smashing Pumpkins version is just a copy/paste. I like the smashing pumpkins, but this version sucks.
At the very end of the song does Billy say "D'Arcy you fucked that up!" I'm surprised through-out the tenure of SP 1.0 that those two didn't throttle each other. He always had a bee in his bonnet about her though- probably justified. But I'm sure that that annoyance helped fuel his writing in those peak years. And D'Arcy did bring something so unique to that band that no other female bass player could ever have possibly brought.....and the passage of time has proved that to be the case.
The God of Hentai - Guy Fieri just watched type o negative version... it sucks ass. Has nothing on Neil Young's version. No feeling, no emotion. At least this version sounds somewhat similar to Neils. And can actually here the notes and chord changes in this one.
TopShot FiveOneFive Riiigghhhttttt.....how bout no (Dr evil voice) type o negative version sucks compared to this version. And this version isn't as good as Neil Young's. type o negative doesn't even sound like cinnamon girl. you have poor taste in music.
I just listened to Type O Neg's version and WOW THAT SUCKED! I'll allow a less than stellar version of Neil's song from the Pumpkins, because, well they're the pumpkins but anyone who says TON's version is the best needs to stay out of my lane
I like all three versions that I have heard, Type O Negative's is more gothic, Smashing Pumpkins is more like well smashing pumpkins, awesome, and of course you cannot screw with the original by the ever classic Rock N Roll Pioneer Neil Young!!
check out wands version too, theres a live on on here
Veryinteresting, i will have to check out the other versions. If only Nirvana could have covered thsi masterpiece!
John Entwistle of the who made a cover of Cinnamon Girl that is worth a listen
The Pumpkins will always Rule!!!!
wow, i always expect nothing but the best from the Pumpkins but this surpass my expections. what a great cover
Rockin' cover, most excellent version. I most definitely miss the Pumpkins.
Miss? They're still great!
I pretty much love all versions of this song. Another solid rendition.
i'm an old lady from the neil young era, gotta say this is really good. Smashing Pumpkins version so much better than Type O - !
LOL,,,,love all the in-fighting over who is best with this cover. The original is a masterpiece,,,,,and every cover is a great compliment to Neil. No need to fight or point fingers....a great song is a great song.
Neil Young is awesome and I hate covers but this is awesome. Corgans voice fits perfect and they made this song their own without shitting on it
I was nineteen when this was released by Young and Crazy Horse. That original version is sublime but if this was the only version I'd heard I'd buy it. As for Type O Negative . . . the singer puts me off, although I like the instrumental arrangement they put to it. Anyway, TON offers a different flavour that many people appreciate.
I read your comment, I had never listen to TON, now I love them, thank you.
The pumpkins covering neil young was something i never really thought about until this it all makes sense now
They did a lot of covers 😊😊😊 even Depeche mode
@WarmothGuitarist

wow Pumpkins old stuff is really good surprisingly they should really make a CD of all the unreleased stuff from the late 80s
the covers of this song go hard
does this kind of remind anyone else of Spoonman by Soundgarden
I think Bury me does it more
Yeah. The beat and rhythm definitely has that vibe to it. You're very observant. 👍👍🔥🔥
Neil Young Is The Original To Create This Song in '69 and I believe The Pumpkins Covered This In Late Late 80s Garage Days..
Years Before SPOONMAN aka Soundgarden!

It's an excellent cover...till the end when someone F's it up.
I love it❤
Loved this song .... they did an awesome cover ....
favourite version of the song 🙌🏾🙏🏾 respect from 🇱🇰 aka cinnamon island 😂
Great tune, Just sad that 16 people never experienced a Cinnamon Girl.
wow, I like it. I wish Billy hadn't cut his hair, it was gorgeous. When I first saw him, he was bald, and I thought he would look wierd with hair. But seeing their earlier stuff, I think he looks better with hair.
He started going bald in his mid-20s. His dome is now iconic!
The best cover of this song is done by *insert favorite band here*
I dig Type O Neg a little bit but I gotta say it's SP that does it best. I haven't heard much from Lana Del Rey but apparently her new album also has a cover of it.

@@sgtooby This is a very good version.
John Entwistle
never heard this before, it really works, thanks a lot for the up!
What a great tune .What a great cover
Still tough to remember Billy with hair
It gave him special guitar powers.
Great version, awesome rockflow....!!
@CCRockit the late George Harrison of the Beatles has a living sister in Brenton Illinois. Her name is louise harrison Caldwell.
I actually like this version better! thanks for posting!
I covered this myself for my audition
Great Cover it Rox!
@grimmpoxer
Ok, the singer from Styx? how about the singer from Chicago? and since were talking about where they were from originally, Eddie Vedder was originally from Evanston IL,
Me, a pvc oriental doll, and this song...exquisite
Great Song from Neil Young
" NO, That's you fuckin up!"
@Darkstar2000nds Well since they were basically a garage band around this time, it's not much of a bad thing.
Very Good
@grimmpoxer
just purely out of curiosity, who do YOU consider a good singer?
@thehapagirl92, gotta say, this version kicks serious ass. No sense comparing which is better, they're all great.
@Mirada84
????? George Harrisons from Illonois? ....are you talking about the guy from The Beatles or someone else?
@CCRockit Thank you for reminding me of how bad Dennis DeYoung and Peter Cetera are as singers. You're proving my point better than I could. I'll give you Eddie Vedder. He's good.
❤❤❤
Ok, the last 5 seconds, did he yell "i told you you'd fuck it up?"
@grimmpoxer
What about the guy from Cheap Trick? hes from Illonois. :/
yeahhhhhh.
@CCRockit Robin Zander, the lead singer, is from Wisconsin. Rick Nielson is from Illinois, and while he can play his @rse off on the guitar, he (mercifully) doesn't sing.
surprisingly good. :)
cool like this version
@CCRockit Richard Manuel, Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Marvin Gaye, Graham Parker, Paul McCartney, Otis Redding, Emmylou Harris, Smokey Robinson, the Beach Boys (collectively - tho I could do without Mike Love), Eva Cassidy, Lowell George, Freddie Mercury, James Taylor, Bono, Van Morrison, Luke Kelly, Shane MacGowan, Chris Collingwood, Glady Knight and Nick Lowe. I really don't have anything against Illinois singers. Just Corgan, Cronin, DeYoung and Cetera.
Wow, it's definitely not better than the original, but still damn good. Thanks for posting.
good cover
@Darkstar2000nds the guitar tone is definately true to neil's
Exactly, well it does have somewhat of a vibe at the end lol
@Bayview05 A cover is supposed to put the bands own twist on the song. Type o negatives version was a very good balance between the original song and their own version. This Smashing Pumpkins version is just a copy/paste. I like the smashing pumpkins, but this version sucks.

2:38 "How did you fuck that up!"
Is that what the guy says?
pretty good cover of Neil Young's song
where are the vocals??????
how then do I leaf a cmmnt on Xbox 1?
@fischech i gotta agree with you man, TON rules
@JefferstChmilst your opinion does not reflect the opinion of the national basketball association.
nice to hear 'em before they got smacked out
I prefer the version they did on WZRD which is pretty similar but with clearer vocals.
@badstormtroopa yup!
where can you find this? love it!
Pisces Iscariot - Deluxe edition
It's on Spotify along with a ton of other b-sides/demos!
I like this version, I wonder who yelled at the end of the song " stop fucking it up!" Lol ^_^
i think he says "Darcy you fucked it up"
Let it snow .
When we finally kiss goodnight... Store riders of the storm..
At the very end of the song does Billy say "D'Arcy you fucked that up!" I'm surprised through-out the tenure of SP 1.0 that those two didn't throttle each other. Bitchy as she was billy could turn into an a hole.
It got shut down recently :[
like the way they changed the tempo
@johnoak18 well you're wrong.
After the song "Darcy you fucked it up!" smh
cant beat type o negatives version, but its still pretty good
The God of Hentai - Guy Fieri right on bro
The God of Hentai - Guy Fieri just watched type o negative version... it sucks ass. Has nothing on Neil Young's version. No feeling, no emotion. At least this version sounds somewhat similar to Neils. And can actually here the notes and chord changes in this one.
HOW DID YOU FUCK THAT UP
18 people are tired of D'arcy fucking it up.
@Darkstar2000nds
Uhm.....
DUH!!
hole?!
Is it bad that I like this version better than Neil Young's? I gotta say this is better than his original.
@ThePigFacedDog Haha! Yes!
!!
what's with the last 5 seconds..turn the volume up and listen ppl LMAO
I wanna live with a cinnamon girl
im a huge fan of smashing... this is great... but type o`s cover is way better.... but nothing beats the original:) ( im a loyal fan of neil:))
Of all the covers this come closest to the spirit and feel of N. Young - Radiohead and Type O botch it.
Go listen to the Type O Negative version. Love the Pumpkins, but I ain't feelin' this one.
+TopShot FiveOneFive Just listen to Neil
OR listen to whatever the fuck you want cause this shit is subjective.
I think it's pretty OBJECTIVE that Neil's version will always be the most ICONIC
TopShot FiveOneFive Riiigghhhttttt.....how bout no (Dr evil voice) type o negative version sucks compared to this version. And this version isn't as good as Neil Young's. type o negative doesn't even sound like cinnamon girl. you have poor taste in music.

Best cover of song is by CSNY.
I vote no. Billy Corgan and REO's Kevin Cronin are valid arguments for outlawing Illinois guys from singing rock.
as in any day that ends in y...
I was expecting an ABBA song
@CCRockit George Harrison is a good singer
--------> overall a good song....cyber arguing is like making faces at stevie wonder. c'mon ppl.
I expect nothing but crap from the Smashing Pumpkins, not a big fan, but this is a good cover, kudos!
not bad
Listen to The same song by Type O Negative
Radiohead does Neil Young? Who says there's a generation gap?!
Love, love, love this!!!
11 people Don't Like the Cinnamon Girl...
@saxby01
It says 666 thumbs up. I'm not liking it.
The vocals sound meh, but the instruments and the beat sound great.
I just only want to write one sentence. People - listen to the same song by Type on negative
