An amazing home just waiting for someone with very deep pockets to be lovingly restorted to its previous glory. The window at the front of the house is beautiful. When I look at property like this one I alway think if walls and room could tell I wonder what they would say??? Love the video. 😊
Baltimore was known for it's old money, and has alot of old elegant homes. This house was one in her glory. Even though the floors seen alot of wear and tear they are well worth restoring . The transoms are gorgeous. You know they had money cause they are stain glass. Loved the peek inside. 😍😍 as always thanks for the trip
@1:07, I shudder to think what someone with more money than taste and no appreciate for history, might do that beautiful, old house. In the UK, 'listed buidlings' status means that permission must be sought to make changes and will refused if they are 'not in keeping' with the overall aesthetic of the building.
That is usually the case in the US as well. My brother once owned a rambling Victorian that had the staircase on the outside wall. It had three vertical windows in succession going up the staircase's outside wall, and that was the reason why it got in the National Register.
sadly, in the United States, even in historic districts, there are almost never protections of interior features, just exterior, so flippers can destroy them
i owned 216 laurens street years ago. i recognized the photo and watched your film. thank you. my old house was unrecognizably gutted. and of course listed for lots more money now.
I just looked up your old address and what the current owners have done is AWFUL. In contrast, the people who bought my late parents' house did exactly what I would have done had I been able to keep it.
@@eattherich9215 i looked at zillow interior photos and the only thing i could recognize was the claw footed tub on the third floor that they must have kept and refurbished because it was too heavy to move. they even got rid of the HUGE ornate mirror that was over what was the first floor fireplace. makes me sad. i do have a friend who stayed and has kept his home intact on mt royal terrace. so some are doing the right thing.
As a born and raised Baltimorean I developed a love of the city's brick and stone rowhomes at an early age. Bolton Hill has some of the most beautiful examples of Victorian era rowhomes in the city, though they do exist in other areas such as squares and main thoroughfares running through older parts of town.
Thank you for another wonderful tour of an old house. The round window in the front room is quite unusual. The stained glass transoms are beautiful as are the wooden ceilings. I hope the new owners will keep some of the original features intact.
I love your channel! My childhood in New Orleans and the Deep South fostered a fascination with old, beautiful houses. 70yrs later you take me on adventures of my dreams!❤
How sad that this amazing building is slowly falling apart. Sure it would take a lot of money to restore it but it would be so worth it. Hopefully it is never subjected to the ultra modern ugliness that so many do to these grand homes.
This home is in really good condition for being empty for 50 years. No graffiti, no one has stolen the copper in the walls, no broken windows, no paint peeling from the walls, and there isn’t squatter garbage everywhere. I wonder how it got away without this awfulness. But it is beautiful isn’t it. Is it for sale, or is it going to sit another 50 years?
Any idea what the upstairs room had been repurposed into. It wasn't the style at that time to have bare brick walls. Someone removed the lath and plaster and installed shelving.
Looks as if it’s missing several prominent light fixtures, that would have hung from the medallion in the ceiling of the entry and grand hall areas of the home.
Why did someone let this beautiful house go it’s huge now a days pleases can’t be so small and no character that is something I would buy if I had the money beautiful thanks for sharing 😊
Beautiful home….needs some work but do have to point out that there was a washer and or a dryer that was in the laundry room that looked way newer than 50 years ago…so I ask was there someone living there for a short time then or did someone pit that there recently after the 50 year of it not being occupied???
@@MargaretFranklin-jy9wi yes, someone was living there I think for 50 years, it just sold and has a new owner now. Thank you for watching and for your comments.
The streaks on the wallls beside stairs and along the halls: i can imagine an infirm senior, dragging their hand along as they walk. Trying to stay in their beloved home as long as they can.
We lived outside Baltimore in the early nineties and spent a lot of time exploring the city. It was in decline already, but still had some great neighborhoods. Sad.
The ravages of time. If you use your mind's eye, you can dial back the wear and tear to about 1910 and image it in perfect condition. The furnishings would have been something.
Beautiful old home. I hope someone with a lot of money will restore it. Good video, but the music is way too much and not at all. needed. Really takes away from the pleasure of viewing the video.
I can’t even imagine the cost to save this place. Obviously the roof has got to be addressed and the structural damage. Still…I would love to save a beautiful old house like this, just not in Maryland as I live in Texas.
EVERYTHING would have to be redone. Those vertical logs holding up the basement beams do not look very sturdy; they seem to just be resting on the concrete floor. Electrical, heating, gutting nearly everything except the woodwork and stained glass. That will take a TON of money and lots of expertise. The bathrooms are just awful but would look so lovely restored in Victorian style. Gorgeous woodwork in the floors.
They didn't take good care of that property, that's for sure; it appears animals lived there all this time. Is that a poor area in the city of Baltimore? It has potential and could be turned back into a nice place.
..great bones and original finished details that remain. At any time in the last 60 years this dwelling could have lost its details by urban decor scavengers quick to make a buck, uninterested in the historical significance. These relics in the rough are getting more challenging to discover as each year passes, especially for those to have a passion for preservation with the intent of calling one home.
Gorgeous townhouse with original parquet and windows. Here’s to hoping it doesn’t get converted into multiple condo units with white everything and no character.
It's so sad that's in such poor condition. I would love to clean it. I can't do repairs but a cleaning would help it's appearance. I wish I could afford to live there, but there is no way. I'd have to win the lottery. I don't even buy tickets anymore so....

I ended up on the wrong bus visiting Baltimore in the 90’s. The people on it and the neighborhood I was riding through seemed pretty good. Guess what? A couple of “hoods” couldn’t have been nicer, got me steered to the right bus, offered any other help they could offer and I learned a good lesson about prejudice. Yeah, you have to be situationally aware, but don’t make assumptions either.
Wow, that is beautiful! I can't help but think someone is going to come in and rip out all the lovely features and turn it into a white on white concrete box. Sigh.
