Yume Nikki Online - A Brief History of Updates

- I went over the Yume Nikki Online Project some months ago, but I only touched lightly on it's history. As it turns out, the project went through quite a lot for only 2 years of progress. In this video, I'll be covering the most important updates and features added to the service, as well as some troubled setbacks that the devs overcame to give you the product you see today. Enjoy!
I love the YNO project for how acessible it makes the games and the updates and how worlds and maps are readily available from within the game (at least for 2kki)

And also, Collective Unconscious is growing bigger and bigger despite not being released yet! Once the main effects have locations the game is ready to come out of the oven (and it'll keep getting updated!). Hope you like it!

the site is still up, it looks like they're still working on it! it crashed my browser so i can't speak on how active the games are but they're still there at least ;w;
Yume Booru (and the unofficial 2kki online) were ran by Hujle, who would take artists work against their permission to reupload on Yume Booru, the image board. I know it was for archival purposes but he was still a jerk about it.
I only point this out because Hujle is worshipped in the fandom for his Yume Nikki memes even though he's a real jerk behind the scenes, at least when I knew him.
Hujle has an entire lore surrounding him of how he is just an awful person and he exploits people not knowing his past. I knew him before YNO online he went around to every YN related discord server and got himself banned on purpose, out of spite, or stupidity. I remember in the dream jam server he would post the image of the anime girl in the machine that skins her to every new person that joined and said "get in" after about 4 hours of the mods telling him to stop they banned him. He started getting banned just by proxy from servers that he never was in, then he made his own server which I believe at one point was the highest population YN related discord server. He has a victim complex and blames all the other server owners acting like he's the victim when he was given above and beyond, and multiple chances of leniency.
Personally I was in development of Yume Kart and not only stopped development, but left the entire YN community as a whole because people from his discord server would raid and harass people on other discord servers. Part of me didn't want to be associated anything with him or his community, another part was burned out from development. I've also heard of other artists abandoning YN related content because of him later on through the grapevine. At the time I didn't really mention why I left the servers or stopped development in fear of being harassed both online and IRL because Hujle would actively encourage people from his server to harass people.
As far as the YNO goes I decided to get back into the YN community I was invited by a friend to be a mod in the YNO discord server. This was pretty much the first days of the YNO discord server. Hujle and some other person were exploiting networking on YNO to crash the 2kki server for hours at a time. Because of his past track record the first thing I did was go to his discord server, and sure enough there was an entire conversation out in the open on a channel between him and another person in Russian, I translated like 10 pages of Russian with google translate, provided it to the other YNO discord staff and got him and the other person banned. Eventually Hujle reached out to me trying to take the all the blame and let the other person off the hook, the other person was the one that found the exploit to crash the servers and told how they did it, which got passed onto the developers to fix. Ironically the mods and admins of YNO debated on letting Hujle in the server before it went up which they were on the fence of, and he burned that goodwill within a few days. I went to another large YN server (not the Hujle server) and told everyone, provided images from his discord as proof, however the people defended Hujle, at that point I left the YNO server including the mod position.
I'd say Hujle was trying to break YNO to promote his own version of YNO he was running at the time, but most of the conversation was the joys they got from annoying the other developers and the enjoyment of other people not being able to play the game. He's a really hateful sadistic person.

Ahahaha! I remember those older days where people were traffic cones and people would modify events in the nexus! Can't believe it's changed this much since the last time I went on the site.
A cool little factoid, there was another group I was a part of who was working on creating an online Yume Nikki multipler game. I had to learn how to use Tiled, but after a couple days the first YNO website came out, so we ultimately stopped the project.
We don't talk about August 6th 2023...

@@Xxkingdomhearts74xX One of the map authors, qxy, removed all their maps in a patch and went to bed. They were frustrated because a small group of people were abusing glitches on their maps and not telling them how they happened. They revoked the change later and added their maps back in.
I love 2kki and Nikki. I have a YN fan game called Mia’s Dream and the protagonist is called Mia and she’s trying to deal with grief of her grandmother as she has never dealt with death before. I don’t know how to code yet but I bet that it’ll be interesting.

As someone who was relatively late to the party, i find it fascinating to learn in deeper detail about some of the stuff i heard about this site when it was on it's infancy. This place really is a labour of love, and spending time with people there really is like nothing else there is in gaming!
But damn, Lcddem host AND free sprites? YNOdevs used to be so based, having the big bad Mr.qxy threaten their passion proyect really broke them...
