I think I have said this before, but even still it bears repeating: I would’ve never imagined that watching a magazine “let’s read” would be so good, and in fact I still think it isn’t inherently a great concept... But YOU make it really fun. The presentation, the spirit of the video, everything is spot on. I love these videos. A+

I'm pretty sure I've said it before, and I'll keep saying it (if for no other reason than to give that extra bit of engagement!): I love these videos. Great way to unwind after a long day, and just as good a way to relive the eras in gaming history that I missed by a few years!

There is something about the way Konami was making games in the NES era that they all had similar soundtracks. The midi instrumentation, specifically the drums, all haves signature “Konami” sound to them.

I dont get a chance to watch as i use to, but i really appreciate these uploads, CGQ.
An hours worth of content about a piece of gaming history just appears in my subs. You use to require an overpriced cable or satellite tv subscription to get such content (and it was still spare at that) and had to set time aside to watch it or find a vhs to record else youd miss it. What a time to be alive.
On more important note: "Asiaton Oleskelu Kielletty" roughly translates to "Absolutely no fat shaming of the neighbors cat"

You must have been easily pleased, then, unless you're talking about 1995/6 onwards. The early '90s were awful for games. £40 or $40 for crappy side scrollers which were largely interchangeable, jerky fighting games, mostly unplayable racers, trial and error platforming, repeating the same levels time and time again... I've no nostalgia at all for the 8-bit and 16-bit era because the games were mostly lazy, derivative crap.

My initial encounter with Sonic was when one of my friends let me borrow his Genesis unbelievably shortly after he bought it with Sonic, over a weekend when he would be out of town, when I was walking back to his house to return it I unfortunately got approached by a couple of unsavory characters who pulled out a screwdriver on me and pressed it against my stomach and demanded I give them whatever I had on me, without saying I immediately handed over the Genesis with Sonic I was carrying in a shopping bag, still begging and pleading that they just give it back based on the fact that it didn't belong to me, but they just laughed jumped in a car and took off. Upon telling my Mom I really was freightened at what I had got myself into, but my Mom hard working and honest as she always was advise me to let my friend know and not worry about it, but surprisingly to me at the time she didn't care about me getting mugged for the Genesis which at the time was about 180.00 bucks and was something she would never buy for me because of how strained we we're for cash growing up, but she was way more thankful that I wasn't hurt. When I told my friend he actually was the one that disappointed me the most and actually hurt me a bit claiming he didn't believe my "story" and felt I simply didn't want to give it back...when I told my Mom about his reaction she just stayed quiet and told to get ready so we could take care of the matter, I initially thought we would go to my friend's house and explain the situation, ..but to my surprise we headed to a Woolworths we're to my disbelief she asked me what I had got stolen I pointed at the Genesis and she bought it outright, we then walked to my friend's receipt in hand and I was able to not only disprove my friend in his disbelief, but realized how unbelievably incredible my mother was and how loving she still is to me, and being just 13 it was a great valuable lesson and an example of a mother's true love for her son, despite the Genesis she bought was for someone else's kid,...as far as me getting a Genesis for myself I never actually did till I bought one of someone else several years later for about 30 bucks...but the memory of my mother and Genesis live on, btw appreciate all you do Chris, thanks bud👍

"When these articles go too long and spoil too much of the game."
That was always the problem with a lot of the more screenshot heavy magazines back in the day, and it was hard to know how bad it was until you finally got the game and realized how much they'd already given away. I recently did a video covering a bunch of old Nintendo Official Magazines from the UK and man, they gave away the entirety of the first Ocarina of Time dungeon before the game even came out. Had a tendency to show every single stage and weapon/ability for most titles in the review on launch. It got really bad from them.

7:55 - This is what I always felt like too. The best ads to me as a kid were just the ones that showed enough big screenshots that I got a good idea of what the game was like.
Most of these game ads just felt like marketing agencies trying to be clever in ways that never actually appealed to their core demographic.

The Base Wars game reminds me a lot of Cyberball for Sega Genesis which is an awful football game. I agree with you 100% the Turbo Grafix's ad was a big missed opportunity as they were fighting for market share and attention. As I've told you before, I saw ads for it occasionally but I couldn't name anyone that I knew that had one. Great work Chris, and Dollar Shave better be happy with the effort you put into those ads.

by the way, this specific issue of GamePro was sort of controversial. The editorial staff wanted a Sonic the Hedgehog cover - this new game we saw and were blown away with. The publisher wanted a Bugs Bunny cover - for some Bugs Bunny Gameboy title that was coming out. The battle ended up being a split decision - half the magazines ran with the Sonic cover, the other half with the Bugs Bunny cover. Which ended up pissing off a ton of people because the distribution got screwed up so that both issues showed up in some areas, and people bought both thinking they were two different issues

Princess Tomato and the Salad Kingdom I think is one of the Immortal John Hancock’s holy grail games. I think.

To ship a game, USPS says they'd do it for 7.20 3day air. Which considering second day air is 8 in that add, doesn't seem to steep to me.

Definitely cheaper than I thought it would be.

You know what Atari's biggest mistake with the Linx was...they should have allowed us to connect it to a TV. The screen is nice but simply could not compare to a TV.

Powerball was a great game. I remember it playing like a mashup of sorts

    Chris: "My other channel CGQ+"
Chris: "Somehow there are still people on this channel who don't know about my other channel"
Also Chris: "I try to keep that channel on the down-low" yeah right.

This is a rough guess but I think the TG-16 had more games geared to anime/Japanese pop culture stuff (Well, JJ & Jeff was a reskin of some Japanese comedy duo, Blazing Lazers was Gunhed, Keith Courage was Mashin Eiyūden Wataru) and since American publishers were downplaying the Japanese origins of video games the PCE library didn't give them much to work with.

Stormlord absolutely looks just like an Amiga game. Looks like an Amiga port all day.
TBH, the Amiga could have used more MD ports, instead of the other way around :)
