    Hi, Pofung and Baofeng is the same company. As said on their website, they had to change their name in the US for a few years due to a guy that registered this name AFTER they were selling their radios for years. Baofeng eventually won the case in 2014 and they switched back to the original Baofeng brand now.

    Thank you I'm just getting into the ham radios. My dad had a big base system with a big tower directional antenna when I was up to 10 years old. He would talk to people all over the world. Maybe some day I will get a portable high wattage system. I have seen videos of people setting bup a 10' antenna maybe it was shorter or longer. I'm new to this so I figured that I would start with the UV-F8HP. I have to get my license first so I can get my call id first. I hope to have the knowledge that my dad had but technology has gone so far that I don't think I need all that equipment. I'm new to this so I don't want to get in to deep into it and decide it's not for me. I think it will. I'm worried about the loss of cellphone use and ham radio is the good old stand by as my dad said in the 2001. He passed away in 2003. You have helped me make up my mind. I will purchase one soon. I am going to take the first test soon. I hope I can look you up when I am up and running. Have a great day.

    for example, I mean is there any difference between 410.5 MHz vs 470 MHz??
    I'm a mountain climber and I have purchased a uv82. now I want to know which frequency should I use in mountains and forests to achieve the most range? and also which frequency should I use in outdoor(such as deserts) to achieve the most range? or there is no difference between 410 & 433 & 470 MHz at all !??

    Hi, I was wondering if you've experienced the same problem I have on both the UV-82HP and UV-5R. While in the car (any car) the radio gets a lot of static while listening to someone's transmission. While idling, the static goes away. As soon as you get going again the static comes back. As long as no one is transmitting the radio is quite. Only during a transmission while in motion do you hear the static. Baofeng Tech sent me a web site to adjust the squelch using Chirp, but that's for the pulsing squelch problem others have complained about so it didn't fix my issue. Both radios are powered by their own batteries, not the cigarette lighter, so if you have any advice on getting rid of this alternator/engine noise I'd really appreciate it.

      What kind of antenna are you using- the stock antenna? This is pretty normal if it is. I would use a mobile mount and mount it on the roof of the vehicle.

    • @1978drloomis
      @1978drloomis 8 лет назад

      Yes I'm using the stock antenna on the UV-82HP and I've tried both the stock and high gain antenna on the UV-5R and it just doesn't go away. I really want to avoid using a mobile mount because I had one years ago with my CB and it's kind of in the way. Personally I think there is some sort of bad ground internally and Baofeng Tech won't admit it, and emailing Baofeng in China direct was completely useless because they never even answered. To add to the whole thing my 82HP charger is defective also, it never turns green to tell me it's finished charging. I was sent a replacement and that failed too. Very frustrating.

    • @sarjim4381
      @sarjim4381 8 лет назад +2

      +1978drloomis The problem is your car, not the radios. You're getting either spark plug or alternator noise or both. You don't hear it when Idling because the plugs aren't firing at a high enough voltage. It can't be a ground problem because a portable isn't grounded to the car. Google ignition noise suppression for some suggestions. My charger goes for red to orange to green as the battery charged. It sounds like you got a couple of lemons.

    • @1978drloomis

    Hi Sir, I had recently purchased a suspicious looking HT radio in Asia region, which I later found to resemble the BaoFeng UV5R series of radios in appearance & identical in functionality & features. But the vendor & packaging states it is capable of 10 watts high power transmission like that of the BaoFeng UV82HP, but has only High & Low selectable options & doesn't display H M L. What is your opinion on this? Do you think this unknown brand HT radio's claim of HP power transmission deceitful? Cheers.

    How many kilometers/miles can that radio transmit?

    • @jongeddes09
      @jongeddes09 5 лет назад +2

      It would depend on terrain, the antenna being used on the transmitting station, and the antenna being used on the receiving station. In a simplex (no repeaters, radio-to-radio conversation) situation, You could realistically transmit out quite a distance in ideal conditions. I was able to communicate clearly with a station roughly 10 miles away on my older Baofeng GT-3TP on high (also advertised 8w) setting on UHF

    Good afternoon sir. I've been having a problem with my radio. I'm not sure if it's the antenna or just my lack of programming experience. I have a UV-5R, and would like to be able to use it with my coworkers radios. When I tune to the channel that I have programmed to their frequency I can hear them and I can also hear myself over one of my coworkers radios but the others can not hear me. So far all I know is that the frequency and PL tones are the same but maybe I'm missing something. If you can help I'd greatly appreciate it.

    • @sarjim4381
      @sarjim4381 7 лет назад +2

      There has to be a difference in PL tones between your radio and the co-worker's radios that don't hear you. My guess is that the one radio that can hear doesn't have a PL set on receive and the others have a different PL than what's in your radio. Review the PL tones in your radio and the other radios and I'll bet that's the issue.

    • @johnnygunz2300
      @johnnygunz2300 3 года назад

      That's a bit odd. So your radio works in frequency mode with no static but has static in channel mode tuned into the same frequency?
      Something might not be quite right with your radio if that is the case. The only thing I could think of is that the squelch settings might be different between the two modes. If squelch was turned all the way down in channel mode (letting in static/no signal) and turned up in frequency mode than maybe that might explain it?
      I'm not an expert with these radios but I haven't ran into what you are describing (I own a few uv82's and they all work pretty similar).

    I have the UV-5R and it overheats in 15 min of talking. How long are you able to talk on this unit before thermal shutdown?

    • @sarjim4381
      @sarjim4381 7 лет назад

      Igf you're on high power, 15 minutes of fairly constant transmitting like youo have in a ragchew is about right before you overheat. These don't have fans or a big heatsink. You should reduce power output or use a mobile radio that has better thermal performance.

    • @brucewayne-cave
      @brucewayne-cave 7 лет назад

      Sar Jim So this radio is expected to have a 15min~ thermal shutdown?

    • @sarjim4381
      @sarjim4381 7 лет назад

      It's not just this radio. It's almost any high power handheld. They just don't have a heatsink that will handle a constant load of 8 watts. At 3-4 watts, they can transmit almost indefinitely. Another issue is making sure your antenna has a less that 1.5:1 SWR match. A mismatched antenna will feed a lot of RF energy back into the radio and cause it to overheat a lot sooner.

    • @brucewayne-cave
      @brucewayne-cave 7 лет назад

      You seem to be obfuscating my simple yet direct question. I have a 5w Icom ID51A+ and a Baofeng UV5R. The Icom never over-heats vs the :15min UV5R; both with a good SWR. Again, does this radio overheat in :15min, just like the UV5R?

    • @sarjim4381
      @sarjim4381 7 лет назад +3

      Look, I'm not obfuscating anything. I was pretty clear. Any of the high power HT's are prone to thermal shutdown if you are in something like a 20% monitor, 80% transmit cycle for 15 minutes. It would have helped if you actually described your duty cycle instead of just repeating the 15 minute mantra. The time means nothing without knowing the duty cycle. You're a ham, right? This should have been covered in your Technician classes.
      Take the back off the Icom and the UV5R and look at the aluminum frame. The Icom has a lot more metal so it's providing a better heat sink. It's also a $400 radio. Baofeng doesn't make $400 radios. There are tradeoffs when you use a $30 radio, and one of them is a less efficient heat sink.
      I never use that kind of duty cycle on any of my handhelds because I know I will eventually overheat the battery and ruin it. The UV82HP has a larger metal chassis so it will provide a better heat sink, but that's probably offset by the higher wattage. What exactly is the duty cycle you use that causes the thermal shutdown? It's only happened ot me once when the ambient temperature was 100 degrees and we were doing the coms for a 100 mile bike race for a period of eight hours. If you reduce the duty cycle and wattage and still have a thermal shutdown, something's wrong with the radio.

      Dennis Gentile you will find it difficult to program without a chirp file. This is downloadable but you will need a cable. (Amazon of course).

    I just got one of these and the battery tabs rattle like a SOB. Not a
    huge deal but I'm anal and that drives me crazy. Anyone else have that?

    This is a pos radio. I just bought one from amazon and have now returned it to amazon. The receiver has 0 adjacent channel rejection, it is useless as far as being quite in monitor or scan mode. Junk

    In the future, you might want to make notes so you're not going, "ummm, what else can I say about this radio...oh, yeah, to change modes you need to...." The Baofeng 82HP is a very nice radio. So is the BF-H7 (known also as the UV-99 in the U.S.). But no one knows how to get the batteries. Anyway, if like to see a review on that, in English. Cheers!
