    I just discovered this video, love it. Like you I'm a proud dad with two daughters. I wasn't a woodworker when they were young, but they helped with remodeling projects, and learned how to do repairs. When each left for college I gave them their own basic set of tools. The guys on campus thought it was awesome that a girl had tools. They got used too, assembling kit furniture from Target & Walmart. Nice build, it inspires me to do this chessboard build with my grandsons. (No granddaughters..😢).

    Thanks to Busted Knuckle Woodworks for sharing your link. I am a Bourbon Moth fan, but you with your daughters are wonderful and definitely worth watching. When I was a young girl, while my sisters were in the kitchen with Mom, I was in my Dads workshop helping with anything he needed. I have my own shop and of my 4 children, 3 do woodworking of their own (2 girls and a son). Now my grandchildren are working along side me in the shop. The common thread with all of them is the pride they take in creating something with their own hands. Your girls will never forget this time with you!!

      You inspire me. Thanks for sharing all that. Lee from Busted Knuckle is definitely one of my RUclips besties! I checked on Amazon and the Chinese sites, and none offers "cuties". After watching your video, it is obvious that cuties are essential to the enjoyment of woodworking and are far superior to "Moths". And, they do not require Bourbon. Your clever employment of them to carry plywood sheets postpones the onset of "Chronic Male Back". Really enjoyable!

    1. If you had Jason's shop it would have been easier. 2. You can work with a glue up panel, if it's clamped correctly, in an hour. You don't have to let it cure overnight. Can someone make that chess board in 1/2 a day? Maybe. Will it take a week? Obviously it did. Could it be done, in one to two days, by the average person, with the correct materials and tools on hand? I think so.

    • @worstworkshop
      @worstworkshop  Год назад +3

      I appreciate that. It could absolutely have been done in half a day, starting with square stock and a table saw with a better fence, and not having another job. A big part of the reason for overnight glue ups is that it's HOT in there, and hard to spend too much time in one day. Working on that problem.

    • @silmarian
      @silmarian Год назад +2

      Sure, but WW here has a ton of tools to speed up the process and it still wouldn’t be a half day project. It’s a good reminder to take anything any professional youtuber says is easy with a gigantic pinch of salt. There’s a loss of perspective as to what a regular Joe (or Jane, in my case) will find easy that comes with doing this for a living in a super well-equipped shop.

    great video.. that unguarded pulley on the drum sander reminded me of some of the tools my dad would make.

    Nice down to earth video showing real dad life. That Jason guy...what a tool! (no, not really. he's a good guy). Chess boards have a special place in my heart. It was the first project we made in Junior High woodshop.

    I just found your channel and let me say, keep it up. I'm a fan of both Jason Hibbs and Brad Rodriguez but I do like the every guy approach you use. Like Emeril Lagasse always said, it's yours, make it the way you want. Keep posting and I'll keep watching

    im not a woodworker.. yet, but i am starting to get some stuff together so i can start doing little projects. this is one of those videos that shows people dont have to start out with the most expensive tools, largest shop and knowhow to get started. you summed it up best by saying he is a consummate professional. hes been woodworking for a long time and doing something like that in 1/2 a day is probably pretty easy. thanks for posting a funny yet revealing video!

      Thank you. One of the great things about woodworking, both on RUclips and off it, is that everyone is glad to welcome someone new into the hobby. I used to have an armoire in an upstairs apartment with my tools. I drug them downstairs at every opportunity and tried to build on the lawn at my apartment complex. While I like to joke about my "worst workshop," it really is amazing to have the space and the tools I have. That being said, you can do almost everything with just a few simple hand tools.

    You're a great Dad - it really does come through with the way you work with your family - Great project! Worth every moment - it also teaches the important life lesson that things go wrong, but it's how you react to these challenges that really does set people apart - you can give up, or look for alternative methods...A great thing to pass onto your children!

    Discovered your channel today and subscribed ASAP. I love how you teach and involve your daughters to work in the workshop. Keep on with it, it's really something special for a father to teach something useful to the kids.

      Thank you so much! I've committed to putting them in every video project they want to do. I'd like to have them in every video, but I wouldn't be a good dad if I forced them.

    I love the "nobody died" standard. I understand working with kids. My 11 year old built most of our chicken coop. Took us months, but what he learned and the confidence he built is priceless.
