The Number of the Beast comes to mind Edit: Oh and mom never did understand Black Sabath but as long as they didn’t “know” it was their music they weren’t concerned lol it shows it was all about perception
Madonna first album. " Lucky Star". My child sitters said, "That's an immoral song." Referring to the lyric, "Shine your heavenly body tonight". Also, my Mom didn't want me to buy George Michael, Faith album because of the song "I Want Your Sex". I never questioned my Mom. She loved music.🎶 Although she let me listen to KC and the Sunshine Band 🌞. " Do a little dance 💃, Make a little love 💕, Get Down Tonight!
This is why I go back to catch any POR episode I may have missed! Love At First Sting! 1984. The long walk to secondary school listening to my Walkman. Haven't listened to this album in quite some time. So good! The track I'm Leaving You is an old fav. Damn great song. Can't believe that and Big City Lights were not on my Liked Songs Playlist. Fixed that in a hurry! Thank you POR. Keep On rockin'!
It's a good thing "Dave's" mom didn't see the cover of Lovedrive... The Scorps always put on a great live show too. I still have the album, it's been played a handul of times just to make another tape.
With all of your personal stories that mention your father, it's quite clear that he was/is one heck of a great dad. Reminds me of my own father. Here's a raising of the glass to toast all of the amazing dads who showed up and rose to the challenge of raising a young boy in the '70's/'80's and taught their sons what it meant to be a good man!
I agree...i love his stories about his dad they make me laugh...make me smile, warm my heart, and are so cute! Keep sharing w us professor its what makes yourchannel extra special! Xox
My whole family was watching the Ed Sullivan show on the first night that the Beatles performed and we were at my Grandparent’s house for Sunday dinner. My Mother was appalled but kept silent. She never drove so we got to watch the entire show! I was 10 years old when the Beatles came to Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, Canada and tickets were hard to get. My Dad surprised me with the news that he had two tickets to their concert and we were going! It was my first, forever and favourite concert to this very day! (And I couldn’t even hear it!!) I asked my Dad if I could try screaming like all of the others around us and I did and couldn’t hear myself at all! There were constant St. John’s Ambulance attendants carrying passed out girls out of the venue and believe me, those stairs were steep, shallow and made of concrete. It was sooo hot but it was so energized that when Paul McCartney shook his foot the hysteria was through the roof! I never heard ANY music but my Dad never said “let’s go”. Instead we stayed and he soon bought me/us my first LP, “Twist & Shout” and played it as often as I liked! My Mother told me over the next 8 years, frequently, that no one would ever play the Beatles in the future and that I had wasted my time. My Dad ALWAYS winked at me (when he was present)and smiled. LOVE YOUR DAD stories, Adam🫠 ! Through your in depth reviews and sharing personal experiences, you keep me connected to my joy in so many lovely ways. Confirmation and devotion. Much appreciation Sir 😍
My favorite band in HS. Went to see them and they DELIVERED. I had "Love at first sting" stolen twice. So glad for MP3 music, no one "Borrows" your cassettes......LOL So the concert was at the Toledo Sports Arena (now gone). Bon Jovi opened and I thought "get them off quick", but Richie Sambora did a guitar solo and I "liked" them because they could rock. The Scorps come on and it was "Blackout" first, everytime the word blackout was sung, these super white lights would flash and blind us. So, they start "Can't live without you" and around the time there was a break, I see Mattias Jabs run to the side and then behind a giant Amp (I was sitting on the side of the stage). He bends over thinking he is obscured and snorts a line, climbs up the amp and then jumps off and kind of rolls his ankle, but keeps jamming. Things you never heard from a fans memory.
I had to laugh out loud when I found out the featured song was Rock You Like a Hurricane’. 😅 I don’t remember this as one of the songs drawing the ire of Tipper Gore (or childhood friend’s mom). It seems kind of funny now after all it’s very tame compared to what the kids listen to now.
There are a lot of bands out there that made their Mark in music. Many of them sound the same. Nobody and I mean nobody sounded like the Scorpions in their heyday. Once they found commercial success, they pretty much could write their own ticket, and everything they made was unique to them. They could be as commercial a pop band ever was with songs like Winds of Change and Send Me An Angel, or they could melt your face off as they usually did on every album. All along the way, the distinctive Schenker guitar work, crunching Herman Rarebell drums with crisp Paiste cymbals and the one of a kind vocals by Klaus Meine made this band one that will be recognized for decades.
In 1984 I was 19 and in a hair band/heavy metal band. As soon as we heard this song we decided we had to add it to our set list so we started playing it at practice but we just couldnt get that same compressed snare drum sound. We were a pretty poor band but it wasnt about making money for us it was about the party! Most of our sound equipment was older second hand stuff. We spent hours (way more time then we needed too) to get the sound right and the first night we played it in the bar was epic still to this day one of my favorite songs to play. The 80's are by far the best decade for music
I have been blessed to see Scorpions nine time in my life. Japan, Spain, and here in the USA over a 20 year period. Every show, every time, absolute excellence. I've seen many 70's and 80's Rock Bands in my life. Scorpions are easily one of the Top Ten bands I have ever seen. Never understood how they didn't ride in the Top Ten of the charts. They were Hard Rock when we need it. I am ever thankful for making the 80's so cool!
Bought this on cassette tape when it first came out... I took it back to the barracks at Ft. Bragg and lent it out never to be seen again... Went back repurchased it and from that day on never loaned out my music again... Had that tape until the player ate it but by then a new kind of playback had just become a "thing of the future" the CD... Like the cassette player before it did, the CD player became the latest, the greatest, the best-sounding delivery system out there... Yeah, it cost more, a lot more in the early days but boy was it worth it the sound was crystal clear and nothing like vinyl or cassette... Thanks, Professor, for bringing back a long-stored away memory...
I was a DJ in the 80’s. Huge hit! Massive requests all night. People would call after I just played it, to ask me when I was playing it again. We weren’t supposed to play it until after 10pm (off air at 12pm), unless it was as a weekend. I JUST Rocked My Apartment Complex Like a Hurricane on Electric Guitar….stopped for a break, watched this video, and get compelled to share my memories as well. I think I’m going to ROCK IT LIKE A HURRICANE again! 🎸🎸🎸
Wow, listening to your story about hurrying to the record store and rushing home to listen to the album sure brings back memories. There was no better smell than that of a newly opened LP. We were sure lucky to grow up in the 70’s and 80’s!!!!
I always thought this song was “get you hyped up” kind of song similar to Jukebox Hero or Tom Sawyer. When the Hartford Whalers of the NHL moved down here to North Carolina I was so excited. The Carolina Hurricanes play “Rock You Like a Hurricane” at the beginning of every home game and the crowd immediately goes wild.
Wow !!! Great story ! Summer of '76, a friend is on leave from The Army after being stationed in Germany. I see him and one of the first things he says to me is "You gotta hear this band Scorpions. I saw them at clubs in Germany and they're great! You'd love them". Took a couple of years but another friend gave me cassette of Tokyo Tapes. That was enough. Yeah, i dug it. Bought Animal Magnitism, Wife bought me LoveDrive and i'm all in. Saw them for BlackOut, Oakland indoor arena. They opened with the title track. man,,,,,huge, nearly deafining build up then the PA 'blacks out' leaving the stage sound, sounding like a transistor radio for a minute or so.. Intentional ? I don't know but it was effective. Months later, i join a garage band (some parties, bar gigs) and we covered this. Found a cassette of us playing somewhere and its there. Hadn't seen it in over 20 years. We sounded pretty good (me on the leads, co guit on bar drops). Better than i remembered. Bought LAFS and played the heck out of it. Freakin' '80s Ruled !!!! Thanx for the memories !
This reminds me of a concert i went to back in 1987. The Show was Raven, Slayer and WASP in that order. The concert was at the Orpheum Theater in Minneapolis. This was/is a vintage old style theater with rows of seats, no general admission, no standing room. Raven played their set and my friends and I noticed there were 5 empty seats in the row behind us. We joked that those people were missing a great show. Then Slayer played their set, still 5 empty seats behind us. During intermission we went got a beer and when we got to our seats the seats behind us now were filled with 5 middle aged women all holding clipboards and pens. As WASP played their set these women were furiously scribbling down notes on their clipboards. Turned out they were from the local PMRC board. If they had been there for the Slayer set they would have had something to worry about.
you told your story, so I’ll tell mine. I had just moved from California to New York with my two sons age to three months and eight years. We moved in with my brother and his family and had the whole downstairs of a house. Upstairs had two apartments and the one right over where I slept was rented to a young mother and her three year old. I remember very clearly the day she bought this album. She loved it, and she loved it loud. I don’t think her child ever slept because we constantly heard her running around gleefully while the music played at all hours! For what seemed like weeks possibly months she played rock you like a hurricane and still loving you constantly. Occasionally she would play a whole side or the whole album. I fell in love with the songs and knew all the words but I didn’t have to buy the album until she started playing it less and I needed my fix! Yes indeed, the 80s were bad ass. You were only a year older than my son, but I guess I provided all the music he needed, at least for a few more years!
My DAD moment was when he came back from serving on a Naval ship for six months and found me sitting in the living room transferring his Bing Crosby 78 rpm records to 7" 3.75 ips reel to reel tape on my newly purchased Akai 1731D. He was so happy that I would do something like that for him that he never bothered me about my choices of music ever again. 7 reels later after around 90 to a hundred platters I gave him a full set of cassettes made from the reel tapes and he played those for the rest of his life. Years later I did the whole project again to a TEAC 3340S onto 10" 7.5 ips tape for archival use without equalization (a mistake I made with the original transfers) and I still have those tapes to this day. I grew to appreciate the genius of Bing Crosby and his vocal abilities. Saying this I have to admit to having over 8000 LPs and probably as many CDs and at least 1000 reel tapes in my music collection.
I used to keep a blank cassette in my stereo for the same reason, I used to hit play and record at the end of the commercial break due to djs playing the songs I liked without any introduction, but they would always tell you what was next after.
My brother was a US Marine stationed in SoCal in the early 80s, he went to the Us festival and brought me home a t-shirt. Wore that thing until it was in tatters. I remember the Scorpions were listed as one of the bands. I don’t remember any others. My brother went on and on about how great they were.
The first time I heard this song i was at a guys single wide trailer down by the river. His stereo was worth more than the house. He put this on cranked it to 11. It shook the house on its foundations and sunk into my gut.
Man the stories keep getting better and better. I can't even remember how many times a played this song on guitar. I actually used the opening riff during soundchecks, and I play in a punkband, even all the punks love it, know it, react to it in a positive vibe. Oh, your dad was cool too imho... 🙂
I LOVED The Scorpions! My personal favourite was Still Lovin' You, but I really love all of them. You could hear them all over my college campus when windows were down. So many memories!
The first time I heard this song, was Spring break 1984. We had to wait for a friend to get off work at 8PM. 4 Guys in one car left College Station at 8:30 pulled into Corpus Christi at 12:45. I had to drive and all 3 of them were sleeping. I was on the big bridge going into Corpus and this song came on. I cranked the Radio woke everyone up and we all yelled the chorus over and over.
Never bought a scorpions album, but this song was one of the reasons I spent all my money on an amp/equalizer and 4 new speakers for my Ford mustang… oh and a smiley face pillow for the back seat. Those were the days !
I was a junior in high school when Love At First Sting came out. I had the cassette tape and played it in my Sanyo jambox constantly. Rock You Like A Hurricane was my song. SCORPIONS!!!!!
I clicked on a link that says Politicians Wife Tried to Get This Song Banned.... Um, not what this story is about.... I think the title goes with a Twisted Sister story with Tipper Gore I heard nothing about banning this song or anything about a politicians wife....
I may have performed an adult dance to this song in my life... That now said, this entire album is a non-skipper. Each track has it's own weight and merit. Its one of my favorite gym albums, still loving you as the cool down...
The Scorps are the best heavy act to come out of all of mainland Europe, let alone Germany. They are still one of the most popular acts in both Eastern and Western Europe, because, even during the height of the Cold War, they were allowed to play behind the Iron Curtain. The band had two unique phases, the Michael Schenker/Uli Jon Roth classic rock phase and the Matthias Jabs phase after which they first toured America. Both phases are distinctly different,, but equally excellent. And these guys are still going with Klaus now 74 and Rudolf turning that age in 32 days. These guys are incredible.
You are so lucky to have had such a great father. Wish I could have known him. The Scorpions were unlike any band I'd ever seen when I saw them around '79. This coming from a guy who saw Ted Nugent and Rush front- row center, Def Leppard's first tour, Queen with Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Outlaws, Kiss packing a general admission show, no chairs, Bob Seger and Blue Oyster Cult, Foghat, Trower, Todd Rundgren, Head East, Sabbath, B.T.O., Foreigner, Styx, Jethro Tull 4 times, Heart 2 or 3, I'd been around. The Scorpions were so tight they were like an unstoppable rock and roll MACHINE, those guitars trading riffs back and forth and Klaus workin' the stage swingin' that mic around like he was born with it. Absolutely brilliant they were.
I got to see them a few years back with Megadeth, and let me tell you... Klaus STILL HAS IT! His voice sounds just as it did in the 80's and he can whistle the opening to Winds of Change PERFECTLY!
3:15 and during his break Don Dokken did scratch vocals for the band. I do believe some of his tracks were kept for backgrounds though. He was never in a position to be new lead, it was just scratch vocals to help get arrangements dialed in while Klaus recovered.
One morning while flipping through the channels (remember when you had to do that?), I heard Pat Robertson of the 700 Club reciting lyrics from one of my favorite Eagles' song. "You got your demons, you got your desires/Well I got a few of my own." and then got lectured on how I need to be saved.
Mine was an album. My parents owned a small Am/Fm radio station and early 1982, I asked if they would order a specific album for me. When it came in, I thought my mom was going to lose her mind. She couldn’t understand why I would want it and threatened to send it back. It was Diary Of A Madman.
I remember the first time I heard Rock You Like a Hurricane back in the 80s. It came on the radio right after Ready For the World’s Oh Sheila. I was like, “Who is this great band?” Just one of those lasting memories from the 80s that I will never forget. Although, I am a little more taken by Big City Nights and some of their other tracks.
My KIDS liked Rock You Like a Hurricane when they were 4 and 6, and would sing along with it in the car! (They are 15 and 17 now), so you can get that there must be some timeless quality to it! My comments: 1. Adam, I LOVED your story about it and YOUR DAD WAS AWESOME! 2. This song (and to a lesser degree Still Loving You) is still over played but this video reminds me of other great songs that got lots of airplay at the time: Big City Nights and Leaving You. One of these days I will finally finish replacing my old tapes with CD's and I will be happy to regain LOVEDRIVE and ANIMAL MAGNETISM. Excellent hard rock from the "Scorps"!
I was not raised with religion being so present in my life, my late mom and dad let me listen to the music i loved without any problem. In fact they were music fans, i was raised hearing The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, my dad was a huge fan of the Stones, Pink Floyd, The Who, Janis Joplin and many more rock and folk artists. My introduction to Rock You Like A Hurricane was the video i saw one day at a friend's house, i loved it right away and later on i got the cassette tape from a friend who gave it to me and he told me later to keep it and i still have that tape to this day.
I don't have an older sibling but my mother had a collection of 78's. With a wind up. The 1812 overture was my favourite but I know all the words to the ballad of Davy Crockett.
i was in High School then and actually went to their concert. Got kicked out of school with my buddy the next day for wearing the concert tee shirt.................worth it!!
I remember my mother and aunt freaking out over my Iron Maiden Piece of Mind cassette. It got taken from me as "devil music". Little did my mom know I knew where her stash place was and I took the tape out of the cover, leaving the cover so she would think she saved me from the evils of metal. Obviously it did not work as I am in my early 50's and still love my heavy metal and 80's music in general. Love your channel and stories.
Satanic panic was grand. I remember my mom telling the guy at the register that if I offed myself she was coming for him. It was friggin warrant cherry pie but had an explicit sticker😂
Your dad had good taste in music, Professor! Maybe that's part of the reasons that this channel exists. Cool back story in addition to the usual Casey Kasem coverage of the band and song.
Back in the day in music swap meets, the label "Lyrics that will make Tipper Gore's head explode" was a mark of quality. A marketing gimmick for sure, but you knew it must have a couple of decent tracks.
Poll: What is the song or songs that most upset your parents or adults when you were growing up?
My mother hated all of it. Not for the lyrics or themes. She couldn't even understand the lyrics. She just hated the music.
The Number of the Beast comes to mind
Edit: Oh and mom never did understand Black Sabath but as long as they didn’t “know” it was their music they weren’t concerned lol it shows it was all about perception
Bobby Brown by Frank Zappa
Madonna first album. " Lucky Star". My child sitters said, "That's an immoral song." Referring to the lyric, "Shine your heavenly body tonight".
Also, my Mom didn't want me to buy George Michael, Faith album because of the song "I Want Your Sex". I never questioned my Mom. She loved music.🎶 Although she let me listen to KC and the Sunshine Band 🌞. " Do a little dance 💃, Make a little love 💕, Get Down Tonight!
Ozzy's "Mr. Crowley" was one that I remember outrage groups targeting, claiming it was indoctrinating innocent children into Satanic worship.
Each time you talk about your father, a tear roll ove my face. Lovely memories, all connected by music
Been watching for awhile now. Your dad was such a sweet supportive badass. Sorry for your loss brother. Live to rock.
Thanks for that blast from the past- playing snippets of all those charting songs! Man, the 80's were something else, weren't they?

Your imitation of the "Telepathic Jezebel" is amazing... you could be a great SNL addition!
It's a good thing "Dave's" mom didn't see the cover of Lovedrive...

Sadly he passed away
Scorpions Wind of Change and White Lions When the Children Cry are songs that should be heard again they have so much meaning all over again.
Your old man's a cool dude
I love the story about your dad! What a great response he had to that situation. What a wonderful dad.
One of the greatest rock song ever, along with the story of you and Dave. Thanks P.O.R.
The stories about your dad are always so heartwarming. This one made me smile and tear up little. Don't stop sharing that stuff with us. It's great.
Yeah, one of Adam’s best stories - both funny and touching
Adam’s dad sounded like one of the GOATs 🙌🤘🤙
Speaking for all of us..sincerely, thank you.
I agree...i love his stories about his dad they make me laugh...make me smile, warm my heart, and are so cute! Keep sharing w us professor its what makes yourchannel extra special! Xox
I like to think that somewhere Dave's mother is watching this video and recognizing herself.

The cover of "Lovedrive" was easily as provocative, if not more.
As well as "In Trance" and of course "Virgin Killer" (which probably wouldn't have been available at that time.)
I love Klaus's voice. My favorite of all male musicians.

Rock You Like A Hurricane is the ultimate skaters jam. Loved skating on Saturdays at USA Skates in Wickliffe, OH.
I used to keep a blank cassette in my stereo for the same reason, I used to hit play and record at the end of the commercial break due to djs playing the songs I liked without any introduction, but they would always tell you what was next after.
keep up the good work im always adding new songs to my playlist
This was another awesome video Adam! But man... your memory made it even more special! 🔝😉❤️
most underrated rock band in the unniverse.scorpions are unic
My brother was a US Marine stationed in SoCal in the early 80s, he went to the Us festival and brought me home a t-shirt. Wore that thing until it was in tatters. I remember the Scorpions were listed as one of the bands. I don’t remember any others. My brother went on and on about how great they were.
I was 18, in 1984! Great song and album!
I too loved Hurricane completely the first time i heard it. Hurricane 2000 sent me into orbit... Still listen to it in regular personal rotation.
My very first concert back in 1983 was The Scorpions and Quiet Riot.
Best concert ever!
LUCKY! so cool.
Awesome!
I love that song "The Zoo". I didn't realize it didn't chart at all.
Yup at 10 yrs old I "borrowed" my cousin's rock albums back in the early 70s !
"Still Loving You" is what was playing when I got to 3rd base for the first time in my life. Good times
Another great story you have there Adam!
Way to go, Dad! Thank you for sharing this memory of you and your Dad. Your Dad obviously was in a good place as a parent. Good for you
The first time I heard this song, was Spring break 1984.
The Scorpions are very under rated and should be in the Hall of Fame.
Love this channel to bits
Lets give Guitar Hero 3 some credit for introducing a whole new generation of fans to this song (among others).
When i listen to the scorpions it brings back alot of beautiful memories of my youth !
I was a 70s Scorpions fan more than the 80s. & still am.
Great story, wonderful Dad!
Great story about how your dad handled the situation!
I think that was a bigger problem out in the Midwest because where I live not once did any of us hear such things from our parents. .
I got to see them a few years back with Megadeth, and let me tell you... Klaus STILL HAS IT! His voice sounds just as it did in the 80's and he can whistle the opening to Winds of Change PERFECTLY!
Thank you for getting to this. I remember asking if you could do Scorpions love at first sting album.
3:15 and during his break Don Dokken did scratch vocals for the band. I do believe some of his tracks were kept for backgrounds though. He was never in a position to be new lead, it was just scratch vocals to help get arrangements dialed in while Klaus recovered.
Every time you talk about your father, I can tell how much you love and miss him.
Was lucky enough to see the Scorpions at the Texas Jam in 1985. I have tickets to see them in 2022 life is good.
Awesome video as always..... but did you ever get your album cover back?
One morning while flipping through the channels (remember when you had to do that?), I heard Pat Robertson of the 700 Club reciting lyrics from one of my favorite Eagles' song. "You got your demons, you got your desires/Well I got a few of my own." and then got lectured on how I need to be saved.
Great story of growing up. Parenthood is a balance.
Thank you Adam, PoR, for having me as an honorary producer for this video.
Love the *Scorpions* 🦂🦂
Saw the Scorp's May 27, 1984 at Castle Farms Music Theater in Charlevoix MI. They put on the best show I've ever seen.
Awesome story 👍🦂
Only one thing to say about this- WAY TO GO DAD!!!
Adam had the coolest dad ever.
I often sing Still Loving You at karaoke but I can't do any of their others. So frustrating 😂
Love the Dad reaction!
That went on in the 80's? Dude, where did you grow up? I was in my early twenties then and EVERYONE loved that song in my home town.
i was in High School then and actually went to their concert. Got kicked out of school with my buddy the next day for wearing the concert tee shirt.................worth it!!
The Scorpions have NEVER put out bad music. EVER.
I'm just glad my parents weren't that strict with me. This cover simply didn't register with them. Then again I was about 16 when this came out.
This is the song that got me into music. Love the Scorps.
Awesome track and your Dad was way cool!
He knew!
Love your show.
Peace everyone!
Satanic panic was grand. I remember my mom telling the guy at the register that if I offed myself she was coming for him. It was friggin warrant cherry pie but had an explicit sticker😂
Great story !!!
Scorpions has, for me, the Best live álbum of all time. Frampton comes Alive, in 2nd place
Awesome dad story!
