  • Australia is famed for its wildlife diversity and home to many unique species. One of them is the numbat - a small, termite-eating marsupial that lives in forests right across the country. ↠Subscribe: www.youtube.co...
The numbat is highly endangered, with only 1,000 left in the wild. Human settlement and the introduction of predators like foxes and cats have decimated their numbers. Researchers are collecting data in order to try to protect them, but intelligent numbats like Lena here don’t always make it easy for them . . .

If only we protected enough habitat then we wouldn't need to use burdensome methods on these animals. But this video is inspiring, to see the positive results of the research. I am proud of the researchers and the animals as well.

Don’t tell the bleeding hearts, they’ll be crying about euthanizing the cats! It’s irresponsible cat owners who made the mess in the first place. What they want to do? Foster them? Forever homes? The new families will dump them right back where they were as soon as the newness wears off, or the kids move away. Put them to sleep, painless and peaceful.

There are plenty of native birds of prey that eat rodents - hawks, eagles, owls, kookaburras etc. All of our feral animals have been introduced or let loose by ignorant & thoughtless white settlers - rabbits, foxes, cats, cane toads, Euopean carp, wild pigs & camels etc. so these animals do what's natural to survive, but cause harm to our precious native populations. It is really human stupidity that is to blame. As a cat lover, & a responsible owner, I have no problem with the erradication of feral cats & think that there needs to be a much more serious quest to get rid of them.

Unfortunately. Too many invasive species, too relaxed a federal and state governments. Apparently Koalas are nearing extinction now which is honestly shocking; I have fond memories of going bush-walking with my family and posing for pictures with the Koalas who'd sit on the lower branches of trees (respectfully, of course). After bushfires the entire town would scour the burnt wood for any tiny animals, mostly possums, and give them water and release them in some remaining bush. Now of course the state governments have chosen to largely take over that duty though since they're big governments their responses tend to be a lot slower and worse than those of rural communities themselves.
