It's pretty crazy how much material and labor has gone up. Hopefully you can make it through to the end without going too much over.

Home prices in general have gone crazy since we did this so it's hard to tell an exact amount.

Did you have to bring the rest of the house up to code because of doing the alteration?
Yes and no. The existing wasn't too old so there wasn't much that needed to be updated. The main thing our inspector cared about was the new smoke alarms had to be tied into the existing.
Great video! Stumbled upon this while planning our home addition. How long did all this work take you? Also I saw your initial budget was $94k. How much did this project end up being? Thank you.
Time is hard to say because I still have a small list of things that need to be finished (the honeydo list won't ever go away) but the kitchen was done in 5 months so we'll go with that. With the addition we were right about 80K, yes that was prior to all the crazy material price increases. We were able to use the extra for our new fence, sprinklers, couches, and a TV so in the end we came right on budget.

Yep! Took a lot longer but saved a ton of $$

Thanks, with the awesome rates we did a refi. Our market has been crazy the last couple years so my house value has far surpassed the 80k we put into it.

I hired out the foundation, framing, HVAC, and drywall. I did all the little things in between.

It was right before the material hike at the end of 2020. We have some friends trying to do the same thing right now and it's about triple the cost.

@@hellohere291 I did do a bunch myself. Also we did it right at the beginning of 2020 prior to the crazy price increase and insane recent inflation.
@@hellohere291 Our neighbors have been getting quotes from contractors for about the same work we did and they are coming in at $250k
Aint no chance on god green flat earth did you get all this done for under $80,000. That kitchen alone and all the plumbing and electrical would be $50,000 by itself.
There is a chance since we did it! Take note we did it at the beginning of 2020 prior to all the crazy material price increases and now insane inflation. It also helped that I was the GC and did half the labor myself.
i’m a GC also and you did an amazing job. I loved the hardwood but that original natural color was sooooo nice i would have just clear coated it and let it stay light.. Either way it’s still nice.
