    One year I thought that my tulips 🌷 were not coming back anymore and the voles got them 🤔 but it was a very dry winter and spring. The following year it rained a lot and all the tulips 🌷 came back 🤗 I'm sure in the UK 🇬🇧 there will be enough rain ☔️ during winter and spring that you don't have to consider to give them extra water.

    Hi Johanna, I'm not sure if you'll see this but quick question about lifting your bulbs to store for next year... you said lift them when the foliage starts to turn yellow? Just the tips or does the entire leaf need to be yellow before it's lifted? I've been thinking about doing this as I'm in the south and my bulbs need to chill in the refrigerator... I'd love to get more than a year out of my bulbs before they have to be thrown in the compost pile. Thanks!

    • @bobbiostudio
      @bobbiostudio  Год назад

      Hey 👋 Sorry for the slow reply 😊 yes just a bit of yellowing should be fine as it means the bulb has finished for this year! After lifting, you can then leave them to cure for a while until the whole foliage turns yellow (that way the bulb can absorb a little bit of extra energy)! Good luck, hope the chilling process will work for you 🤞😘

    Just started gardening this Feb. with Tulips. By May & up to now, the ground location for these tulips are totally bare after cleaning them up. Do I need to water the ground normally as often like when there were flowers on it? Can I just leave the ground unattended & no watering when dormant? Is it going to be always 8 months of watering bare grounds?

    • @bobbiostudio
      @bobbiostudio  Год назад

      Hey Lorna, sorry for the slow reply, welcome to the gardening family, I hope you will love it 🥰 Yes if it’s really dry, you can water once in a while so the bulbs don’t dry out but if you have enough rainfall, that shouldn’t be a problem!
      You could always create a mixed border (so add other plants and have spaces for Tulips) or simply plant on top of them if you don’t want the bare ground? A lot of people use seasonal bedding (that is shallow rooted and won’t impact the bulbs) or sow annuals. For example, in Spring Violas, Summer Petunias or Marigolds, cyclamen for Autumn/Winter. This way you always have something to fill the bare ground. Hope that helps xx

    I have a question about planting perennial summer flowers on top of tulips. I have read varying advice and would like to know if you have any recommendations for what type of flowers to plant over the bulbs? I have a vast amount of bulbs, so digging them up is not a viable option for me. I really like roses, but was afraid that the two would interfere with each other as roses tend to bloom in late spring. I am thinking that watering the summer flowers should not cause bulb rot, if the bulb's season is over. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

    • @bobbiostudio
      @bobbiostudio  Год назад +1

      Hi Clarissa, apologies for the late reply, I hope this will still be helpful :
      Yes you can plant over tulips ! A couple of options below:
      1. Sowings seeds:
      This would mean you don’t have to dig (and therefore limit potential damage to the bulbs).
      - you can direct sow some annuals from now up to end of May for a Summer display
      - a couple of ideas of flowers easy to grow from seed: zinnias, sunflowers, marigolds, calendula, nasturtiums
      - You could also sow an annual wildflowers 😊 video here ruclips.net/video/L2_IubOsInM/видео.html
      2. Planting plug plants:
      You can also about now find annual plug plants or already grown on annuals to add to your border (e.g petunias, foxgloves, snapdragons). Small rootballs means you are again less likely to damage bulbs by planting them.
      Annuals are shallow rooted so won’t bother the bulbs and will bloom through the entire season.
      3. You can plant summer flowering bulbs/corms/tubers! For sun, plants like Dahlias, gladioli, lilies are a lovely option!
      3. Another option is to plant perennials (e.g lavender, nepeta, salvias) which are really good bloomers too but for a shorter period. The risk of course is to damage the bulbs in the planting process but you can always replant more Tulips in the Autumn to get a really good bloom show.
      You should be okay watering so long as the soil has good drainage- the bulbs will need water & nutrients to keep growing.
      Hope that helps! 😘😘

    • @bobbiostudio
      @bobbiostudio  2 года назад +1

      Hi Salvo, thank you 🥰!
      So you planted them 40cm deep if I understood correctly?
      The planting depths for Tulips (regardless of how tall it grows) is typically 10/15cm (about 2/3 times the height of the bulb).
      If they are planted too deeply, they may not bloom or not emerge from the soil at all (because they will use too much energy).
      Did you plant them recently? If not too long ago, you may be able to replant them without damaging them. Hope that helps 😊xx

    • @salvomamas102
      @salvomamas102 2 года назад

      @@bobbiostudio No, I planted tulips in autumn at a depth of 10-15 cm. I was saying that they are tulips that when blooming reach a height of 50 cm. But they have flowered very very low and I don't understand why.

    • @bobbiostudio
      @bobbiostudio  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for explaining again 😊! It sounds like their growth was stunted in some way - maybe they didn’t get enough water in the last weeks before flowering (especially if they didn’t flower well) or possibly not enough sun. Another factor could have been the weather: they need a long period of cold to flower properly - 8/12 weeks for most spring bulbs so if the weather warmed up at some point during Winter, that could be an explanation too 🥺
      You could try to apply a phosphorus rich fertiliser to help them build up again energy for the following year 💚

    Thank you for the wonderful Q&A. I have a quick question, you said the tulip bulbs can be placed close together in pots. Why is that? does that mean you can't place them close together in the ground? Thank you!

    • @bobbiostudio
      @bobbiostudio  Год назад

      Hi Nate, thank you ❤️
      Great question - I’m assuming that when planting in containers, you either replant in the landscape after flowering or will discard the bulbs (treat them as annuals so once flowering). Spacing them close will give you a better show.
      You can absolutely keep your Tulip bulbs year round in the container and plant on top with seasonal bedding - then do use a winder spacing as the bulbs will multiply 😊
      Hope you have a great day or evening xx

The grass gets lots of sun but obvs im planting in turf, whats the best tool? I have a bulb planter , would it remove a disc kf turf that i can stick back over the hole? Or am i best making lots of holes and re seeding the grass?

    • @bobbiostudio
      @bobbiostudio  Год назад

      Aww that’s such a lovely way to commemorate them 🐾 It sounds like a massive planting project so possibly the fastest way would be to till the area / dig it in so that the bulbs are easier to plant. And yes you can absolutely reseed the grass (which is probably the neatest option as planting at that scale will likely damage it) 😊
      The Keukenhof (a tulip park in the Netherlands) plants on a massive scale every year, they have a video that might be helpful ruclips.net/video/vyFV9javwAQ/видео.html

    • @bobbiostudio
      @bobbiostudio  2 года назад +1

      Hey thanks for reaching out! I’m assuming it’s Summer for you too?
      It’s hard to tell without seeing a photo but that doesn’t sound good 😱
      Spring bulbs shouldn’t be sprouting at all yet nor have roots, it’s too early! The bulbs were probably stored incorrectly (too warm) or are from last year..
      I would contact the company and ask for a refund/exchange.
      If you plant now, the risk is that they will grow before Winter and freeze before blooming normally in Spring and likely won’t bloom at all actually as they already spent a lot of energy.
      If you can’t return them, you could try to save them. I would put them in a fridge at 4deg Celsius to completely halt growth and plant them in very early Spring so they can continue their growth. Never tried before so can’t guarantee it will work!
      Hope that helps!!

      I think because it depends on the variety, how & where they are planted, fertilised, how dry/wet the winters were, etc. In my experience, single tulips give you a better chance (along with pretty much every other spring bulb) but it’s worth trying out in your own space and see what works!! 😘

    Do u soak tulips before planting

    • @bobbiostudio
      @bobbiostudio  Год назад +1

      Hi Celeste, no Tulips don’t need to be soaked before planting, simply water after planting and keep an eye out for dry spells - where you would need to supplement water. If planting in containers, ensure there is good drainage (drainage hole at the bottom, raise the pot on feets or with a brick). If planting in the ground and you have heavy soil (that retains a lot of water), add horticultural grit at the bottom of the planting hole to help with drainage. Tulips hate having wet feet ☺️
      (P.S: dried corms like ranunculus or anemones would need to be soaked)
      Hope you have a great day or evening 😘😘

    How do I get rid of the fungi?

    • @bobbiostudio
      @bobbiostudio  Год назад +1

      Hey Ana, unfortunately you can’t get rid of it. The advice if some of your bulbs are affected is:
      - to burn the bulbs and foliage affected (or bin them but don’t put it in your compost bin/green recycling as it will keep spreading)
      - Same for the soil if you were planting in containers and wash the pot
      - If planted in the ground, wait 3 years before planting bulbs again in the same area
      Hope that helps xx
