The strict view of divorce BEFORE you became a new man is not biblical, it is self righteous and be a Pharisee. According to scripture, which you follow if you are a real Christian, GOD forgives ALL sin when you come to Him as a new man, the old man dies and the new man is born. GOD forgives your sins, casting them as far as the east is from the west. So mr. Pharisee, ask yourself, do you follow The Gospel, do you follow GOD or do you put yourself before GOD by not forgiving a past sin which GOD has forgiven? Simply, do you obey GOD?

Remarriage for just any reason would prevent elders and would be deacons to be chosen because of this, it would also prevent them being Godly Christians. In Matthew 19;9(only reason for divorce stated by Jesus!!!). My understanding in remarriage for the reason of adultery, God himself who is the only one who institutes marriage (not the court house), also is the only one who can end such marriage) ( Mark chapter 10), only because of sin. God himself warns there not to take matters into your own hands (opinions of men), Now 1 Corinthians 7 states a widow or anyone who has the right to remarry should do so only in the Lord, (has the bible right to remarry), (Matthew 19;9). So if he remarries one who has the bible right to marry(authority given by God) God would then bless the marriage as he did the first (before sin, adultery occurred) this marriage would be blessed by God and there would be no reason why they could not serve as deacons, elders if they meet the rest of the qualifications. If God blesses something we should not call it evil... Remember the rebuke of Peter by the Lord in the clean and unclean story. Lets not make this harder than it is.... Remember an Elder, Deacon is still only a man with the frailties of being human, Paul chastised Peter in the middle of the street and called him a hypocrite, Jesus even called him Satan and told him to get behind him, he even denied the lord 3 times looking into his eyes, Yet he became an Elder...

The Greek text is "one woman man" and has nothing to do with divorce. God divorced Israel. Divorce was an option in the bible in certain cases. Paul says must be about all qualifications. Not must have been and forever be. He is speaking in the now. If here were not no man would qualify to be an elder, bishop, or anything else. Everyone who divorces does not sin. Some never wanted to be divorced! Must be, as Paul says it is speaking for at the time of the churches review. Christ can make you new correct? If He can do that, how can a mere man hold something against you. Now if you are saved and in a leadership role and involved in a divorce, you as an individual need to read the Word and see what it's saying to you. This old belief is based on people twisting the Word. It simply does not say a man must be and have always been married to the same woman. It says must be a one woman man. BE in every qualification is the key word. If you take all of the qualifications and twist them to match this point of view, who would teach the Word?

The Greek text states " to be of one wife the husband" NOT "one woman man". The husband of one wife simply means A man that has had only one wife. The text states a bishop must be blameless. If a man has been remarried, he committed adultery and has taken a second wife therefore he has a blemish in that area, the blame can be laid at his feet; he's an adulterer. Notice the text states a bishop can't be given to wine. By the bishop not drinking wine no blame can be laid at his feet of being a drunkard. The scriptures are simple, it only becomes confusing when the thoughts of men are interjected into the text.
