Lovely review! No wonder I felt there was something off about the film compared to the book, thanks for verbalizing it for me! I read this book when I was in elementary school and became my basis for all spy books since. I thought it was nice that the book gave a lot of tips on how to be a spy, Ludlum's seemed very descriptive. It's only in retrospect that I realized how thick that book was and how it could have been more blunt/direct in some things. Also, the part where Marie got kidnapped and *you know* flew over my head as a 10-year-old. It's only now that I remembered that was there or understood what was happening then.

Dom, we completely understand and medical reasons are definitely important and more than justification enough. This is great as it keeps your opinions, gives you a chance to heal, and gives a spotlight to other creators (which is something I wish was done more on youtube). Take all the time you need to heal, it's perfectly fine.
For the comment about the story being exceptionally long and necessary detailish, maybe that was just the style for spy novels at the time? You did talk about a similar issue in "Goldfinger" about how there would be entire pages going into specific nuance details that could have been just as easily said in a few words. Such as with the golfing scene.
Another brilliant look at a well known book to movie adaptation. One I haven't had the joy of seeing/reading... and will probably skip now. Thanks for the lovely look Dom/Kate. Hope you start to feel better Dom!
Kate did an amazing job! But I still miss the sound of your voice while I watch this. So who is doing next weeks episode? And heal up soon! We miss you! ❤️
First off, thanks to your partner for her presentation of your script - she did a great job! Two, you're right on lots of points concerning the original novel, its a bit too long and I didn;t understand why Marie forgot about his violence towards her either. You're also right about the sound effects in the movie version. Please cover the old mini series by Richard Chamberlin. I watched it when it came out!! But some points to make here. The director of the new movie based it on his father's work in Church committee investigating CIA assassination plots in places like the Congo. Also some of the things in this movie do make sense. Operating on the guy on the boat makes sense or else he'll bleed to death and the sat water treats wounds for infections. As for the action, Bourne is an indoctrinated guy - almost like a robot, and they say that in the movie. Behavioural software, etc. As for the novel, American espionage technothriller novels always have plot conveniences, same with the 24 series - otherwise the good guys would never win. Its not like john le Carre and British style novels. And Ludlum most likely was CIA at one point in time so he's being quite accurate on their way of operating and their danger to democracy. The novel itself is also very interesting social commentary on American elites, with the old WASP order outliving its usefulness. Bourne or David was reshaped to look like a WASP elitist - the English doctor who saves his life tells him that. And the doctor is probably the special relationship with the UK. Please read and then watch 'The Osterman Weekend'. Its much shorter!!
As someone new to the channel, an excellent review. I read the novels way back when, and watched 1.5 of the movies (had to leave the theater partway through #2 due to motion sickness). They could have stuck to much more of the book plot if they wanted to, updating it for tech and better film capabilities. But yes, it was a *huge* stretch to link it to Robert Ludlum's originals.
Oh, and while I very much enjoyed the review, the lighting reflecting off her face and hair/green screen errors were distracting. My guess is everything was set up to work with the original host and they didn't think to or have time to tweak them to work with her skin tones and hair styles.
I had zero knowledge of sound design and Foley work when I first watched it but I've always had an issue with the sound effects during the fight scene!! Also, you did a great job, Kate!! Thank you for your hard work!
OMG, yes, these movies have nothing to do with the books except the name of the main character. And what happens to Marie here - yeah, total guy logic at work in that one. But then, they didn't have sensitivity readers back then, lol. Looking forward to the next two. And thanks Kate for stepping in and helping out the Dom. :D

How was her hair messing with the color keying?
Her hair is very light and almost see through in thin parts, so you can see the background through it.
Her highlights reflected the green.
Feel better soon
I hope you get better soon, Dom! Take care

A Suggestion: Logan's Run ~ Lost In Adaptation.
I first came across your channel in early 2015, when I just 11 years old. I loved your videos and you were one of the first RUclipsrs that I ever really watched. I forgot about your channel until tonight and I just binged watched all of the videos that I had missed. It is so crazy to see how your channel has grown since it first stared and I just wanted to let you know that your videos made me become a more avid reader and a much more critical movie watcher. keep up the great work!
Hello, my beautiful Dom! I'm missing your voice and delivery :( hope you get better soon. Virtual hugs! Rest plenty!
Feel better soon Dom!
Omg a new lost in adaptation! By the way I know it came out just over a year ago but have you seen *A Series of Unfortunate Events* Season 3 and are you thinking of completing you’re trilogy of episodes.
Very nicely done! Not my favorite book or film by a long shot, but your collaboration in reviewing was excellent!
Im pretty sure that the farm belongs to Maries brother and not just a friend.
Mr. Noble, take care and speedy recovery. Thank you for taking the time and effort to provide videos during your time of challenge. Thank you to Kate, who's channel I will check out.
Get well soon, Dom.
(It's really funny to hear someone else talk the way you usually do. That Movie Chick did a really good job filling in for you!)
Dom, we completely understand and medical reasons are definitely important and more than justification enough. This is great as it keeps your opinions, gives you a chance to heal, and gives a spotlight to other creators (which is something I wish was done more on youtube). Take all the time you need to heal, it's perfectly fine.
I love this series!! My grandma and I watch it all the time. One of her favorites xD
So what you're saying is, they aren't “dumb mistakes”, they are “Dom mistakes”?
Are you telling me Robert Ludlum published his Carlos the Jackal fanfiction?
hope your throat gets better soon thank the gods for good friends
Another brilliant look at a well known book to movie adaptation. One I haven't had the joy of seeing/reading... and will probably skip now. Thanks for the lovely look Dom/Kate. Hope you start to feel better Dom!
Great job taking over for this video :3 Very well enacted :D
I hope you feel better soon Dominic! We all care about your health and well being man.
I had zero knowledge of sound design and Foley work when I first watched it but I've always had an issue with the sound effects during the fight scene!!
Also, you did a great job, Kate!! Thank you for your hard work!
Personally I like having the unrecognizable everyman character being played by an actor who I have mistaken for multiple other actors.
I love the bloopers. Kate seems so sweet.
Yeah I love bloopers because they give a view of the person, not the "act" as it were. She seems very nice!
I actually wish this had been about the 1988 version. I need to see that one again.
Nice to see you, Movie Chick! You're a good friend. 😊
the bloopers make me wonder how long it took to record the episode
Hope you feel better soon, Dom. This was a great episode.
Fell better, Dom. Sending health from LA.
Ah Yes. Another example of "I didn't even know that it was based on a book" type of episode. But as always it was a pleasure and Kate did amazing.
I can see why they didn’t do a straight adaptation of this thing.
Thank you That Movie Chick!
I shall miss the Dom's calm, reassuring dulcet tones. Rest well, the Dom.
Take your time and make sure you heal. Your health is important. This was great!
Get better! Kate did an awesome job in your absence, I’ll definitely have to check her out. 👍
Hope you get better soon Dom, that movie chick great job!!
As someone who has read the books ..I didn't see the older movie ..but I really did like the Matt Damion movies and spin off..
Get well soon Dom
I hope you feel better soon Dominic!
