Will there be too much noise? Sydney underground lines are noisy in the tunnels, just like NYC, but the new driverless Metro, is quiet, despite the cars being totally open walk through.
Pretty sure the option taken recently didn’t specify A or T, and they have time to figure out which ones that want. Great catch and hopefully these are a success and open gangway becomes the standard
I hope so too. And if it’s a success it’ll probably be best that the first five cars be open gangway and that a full ten car train be two five car open gangway sets that are connected.
@@DDELE7 the open gangway trains will all be five-car sets, unless the option order also contains four-car sets. They can then be connected to form a eight- to ten-car set.
Is it the intention for later deliveries to have their gangways installed at the shoreside delivery point or will that always happen at Coney Island? \m/
"decrease asymmetrical car loading. We have had opens gangways open on our metro in Paris since 1997..... .....but sadly they have not caught up with the rest of the world in terms of the external design of the cars, which is virtually unchanged from units that were in service in the city more than 60 years ago!
I'm not an expert so if this is incorrect somebody please correct me. My understanding is that it's a weight distribution thing elsewhere in the system. The old diesels are too heavy to run next to one another. I believe the newer ones are light enough that the spacer car isn't needed.
Possibly. 1175 of the cars will be closed ended trains for the 6th and 8th Avenue Lines (and Staten Island) and to expedite fleet replacement. The last 437 cars will be solely for fleet expansion for use on the Queens Blvd Line to displace other cars to non-CBTC equipped lines.
@@R142Foamer It didn't occur to me that larger pocket sliding doors would eat up more space in the walls. Pocket sliding doors practically don't exist here. Open gangway trains, on the other hand, are already super common, being frequently used on regional, intercity and rack railways and all two metro lines in the country.
