Guaguanco - Cienfuegos, Cuba

This video was created in 2006 in Cienfuegos, Cuba. It is a performance of guanguanco, a derivative of Cuban rumba which combines singers, dances and percussion. In the case of percussion this performance used instruments made by slaves from Africa, such as boxes used for fish and ordinary spoons. The music is a blend of of African rythyms and Spanish influences. The group is one of the very best in Cuba. The performance was organized by my wife, Nivis Salaff.
