    Thanks for the video - It was our first year growing this variety and we were thrilled with how many we got and with how much flesh every pumpkin produced. I'm making the first pies with them today!

      I’ve made a couple pies, some soup, and bread with them. Definitely superior flavor to standard pie pumpkins!

    We grow lots of pumpkins as well, Musque de provence is our favorite, but i guess we also have lots of favorites! You want to try the "Rouge Vif d'Étampe" as well
    We also gros the styrian pumpkin with the naked seeds
    Great job!

    Generally, people who grow pumpkins east of the Rocky Mountains have trouble with squash vine borers-Musquee de Provence is a resistant species along with Butternut squash and Seminole pumpkin (the species Cucurbita moschata)

    So nice, do they give like 3 pumpkins per plant? Were they hard to grow?

    • @DesertHavaGarden

      They grew quite easily and I planted 5 seeds and have about 20 pumpkins that will mature before frost.

      Back when I was a kid I got a tiny space to grow whatever I wanted to. Like a fool I decided to plant pumpkins, not know how much SPACE they need. So I got creative & trained my pumpkin plant to climb a nearby fence & bang! They went U the fences & I had hanging pumpkins!!
      I was probably about 9 or 10 yrs. old..
      Such an experience!
      They kinda just grew themselves with Mother Earth ,sunshine & water I gave them as needed.!!

    I grew my myscade de provence vertucally. Grew really well but the fruit dud end up dropping off the vine as they got so heavy. They were green but are slowly going brown on windowsills.
    From your video, the skins look too tough to eat, or are they?

    Seeds that have hard shells can be boiled with the stringy part and blended to add to soups and more.

    YES!!!! I was watching a Gordon Ramsey cooking show last week and he was using these. Flavor is supposed to be better than the traditional pumpkins. These are on my list to grow (: How were the pests? I know squash beetles seem to like some varieties over others.

    • @DesertHavaGarden
      @DesertHavaGarden  3 года назад +2

      The squash beetles were around, but did not eat the plant nor the fruits! All kinds of people had trouble with them on their pie pumpkins here. I’ll save you some seeds 😉

    Are seeds without shell GMO?

  • @comounaverdura

    I would say the color of the pumpkin is not important at all; the flavor is.

    While I was typing a long comment and as usual RUclips disappeared with somewhere else left your posting and I lost everything I have been typing which was quite a lot. So I’ve gotta start all over again this time I’m just gonna type in sections so I don’t lose everything because I cannot trust RUclips to not just drop my posting when it wants to switch to a auto poster whatever it does I don’t have it that way I don’t think and I was watching your video and typing. I did have to skip some parts because I was just interested in the parts about how to prepare the fairytale pumpkin.
    I’ve never heard of a fairytale pumpkin till I happened to find this one in the food bin. Someone had thrown this beautiful perfect giant pumpkin away and I checked it out and I could see that it was a mint condition had a sticker on it wasn’t soggy was hard as a rock so I decided I rescued it was sitting on top. I also saw a bunch of coconuts five of them so I rescued them but they have been drained of their milk and I was wearing that they probably would not be OK and I cracked a few open and they were not OK so I had to throw them away but the pumpkin I discovered was called a fairytale which I had never heard of.

    • @bondjane007
      @bondjane007 Год назад +1

      Anyhow I decided unfortunately after I had cut it open with a very sharp knife. My bad not checking out a video about this pumpkin before I cut it open because I cut it in quarters. Why did I do that well it was very big and very heavy and I had to put it on top of another pumpkin in my tiny tiny closet size kitchen where there’s no counter space at all. And I had to be so careful that I wouldn’t cut myself with this giant sharp knife. So I just cut it anyway I could get to it. I was shocked when I saw how orange it was. It was absolutely wow beautiful! And it was perfect!

    • @bondjane007
      @bondjane007 Год назад +1

      So after I had already cut it in quarters rather than in half down the side I should’ve done that, but I didn’t again my bad.
      The seeds are great! I rescued them. They were kind of small compared to regular pumpkin seeds.
      I’ve already made two pumpkin pies with regular pumpkin and I mean regular pumpkin not the kind that you normally use which is I discovered called sweet pumpkin. I use d the pumpkins that I just got for free from Vons market. They were giving away pumpkins. The day after Halloween and I got like 12 of them so I could give some to all my neighbors for Thanksgiving.People that I know that have been good to me they collect collect recyclables for me and egg cartons for me so I can Help save mother Earth and get a few dollars for the recyclables and I get the cartons of eggs for the people who have eggs but no cartons to the church and they deliver them to a place 60 miles away

    • @bondjane007
      @bondjane007 Год назад +1

      Well enough sidetracking this is supposed to be about my rescuing this wonderful giant perfect fairytale pumpkin.
      I’ve already made some regular pumpkin roasted seeds which I put coconut amino’s on and salt and pepper and some Asian spices and then I roasted them after they were dried of course in Coconut oil and then I took them out and finish cooking them the next day so they were nice and crispy!
      Now back to the fairytale pumpkin I rescued. Well actually I rescued the five coconuts and I think I told you they were not good when I open them so I couldn’t rescue them or save them. But I have on occasion found many things perfect condition perfect bags of apples organic brand new bottles of every kind of liquor you could think of every kind of wine from every era. I found some from 2015 red wines. All new unopened and many of them were in A bottle carrying bag!
      I think the reason people get them off is because you can’t sell them without a liquor license so they just put them out by the trash and it’s free wines free booze. They’ve been unopened. So they make perfect gifts or maybe I’ll drink them myself. I pretty much don’t drink anymore. But they’re good for friends.
      I’ve also found many other unopened brand new food items sitting out on top of the trash cans. Brand new cans of food not expired organic often and many boxed items unopened and often many vegetables in their original 1:53 a couple of things might’ve been wilted but 90% of it is not wilted or bad it’s all perfect and usually it’s organic. I’m thinking a lot of people throw things away because of expiration date but I’m sorry if I see something and it’s original container unopened in perfect condition I cannot just let it be trash!
      So back to my fairytale pumpkin. I’ve got the seeds out and I will drive them I’m doing that now and then I will season them and roast them I do it in an iron skillet. I actually don’t like to use my oven because it’s one of those electric ones and I don’t understand them I like the old fashion ovens. But believe it or not I made pumpkin pie from regular pumpkins kind of did it my own way with gluten-free pie crust I didn’t make the pie crusts.
      I did make covers aluminum covers for the edges and I left them on the whole time and it turned out fine in about 15 minutes it was a little bit soggy or than I would’ve liked it to be but after it set up because I put an extra egg in there it turned out perfectly. I now have one of those mesh things to squeeze the extra moisture out of the pumpkin I tried to drain it overnight in the refrigerator but it just didn’t get enough out so I bought the proper thing. I wish I had those electric blender things you guys have but I have to use the old fashion blender or food processor to purée My pumpkin.

    • @bondjane007
      @bondjane007 Год назад +1

      So I am going to just put some butter and put the quarter sections that I have of the fairytale pumpkin and roasted at 350 in my horrible electric oven which is brand new!
      I live in an apartment building so the owner got me a new stove because I have electric one before and it was old probably 20 years old and it wasn’t working very well.
      So I probably will make a combination of things with my fairytale pumpkin. I’m gonna make soup for sure and I’m thinking it might make a great pumpkin pie. Even though I have two already what is in the freezer no 1 1/2 is in the freezer because I ate already half of one of them I added whip cream and coffee ice cream. I know sinful. But hey I earned it.
      So I’m thrilled that I rescued that fairytale pumpkin I was almost not gonna rescue it thinking it probably not good to eat but I thought what if I got to lose by rescuing it and cutting it open and finding out and looking it up on the Internet and I was shocked that it’s one of the better pumpkins to eat. So I will probably save some in the freezer and then I will have some for maybe I’ll make pumpkin bread or pumpkin pancakes. I happen to like pumpkin stuff I don’t like pumpkin drinks but I do like all the other pumpkin stuff.
      Sorry for the long long posting and having to put it in sections but I read the other people experience what I experienced that RUclips just drops what you’re doing right in the middle and then if you can’t get it back I didn’t know where to go so when I clicked the wrong thing it deleted all that stuff I had written and I was not talking at that time I was typing. Now I’m talking shit because I cannot do all this typing. Especially when RUclips just randomly decides to throw it all away. So now I’m gonna do it in sections someone else said that they do a pause I don’t know where that is but they said they pause so they don’t lose everything everything because it happened to other people as well.
