    Joan Druett's book Island of the Lost is a nonfiction story of two crews simultaneously shipwrecked on the same island in the subantarctic, unbeknownst to each other. Excellent story of survival, one crew survives successfully for over a year before self rescuing, and the other fails with many deaths before being rescued.

    I remember a movie based on reality from back in the 60s, (Island of the Blue Dolphin), about a native American girl whose tribe was removed from an island off the coast of California. She and her younger brother were somehow left behind and he later died, leaving her to fend for herself until she was rescued years later. In early 2019 I was trapped in the Rocky mountains by a massive snowstorm. I was about 22 miles from the nearest town. I had quite a bit of food and a propane tank with a heater. I also had a half gallon of whiskey and several packages of marijuana gummy candies. I had a cell phone connection so I decided to chill. My comments on a certain RUclips channel got so insane that I had to get a new account. After day after day after day of shoveling I finally gave up called into the town and found a kid with a really serious off-road four wheel drive to pull me out. He only charged me $250, seems fair. I cannot imagine years of total isolation.

    You should cover the one about the 4 cook islander boys that got stranded on an island after they ran away from a catholic boarding school on a stolen yacht in the 1960’s. It’s a great story of survival and friendship and pretty much the exact opposite of that execrable novel Lord of the Flies....

      Wow! What a coincidence! It was 6 boys, and they were from Tonga, but I read about that just today, April 22, in the New York Times, in the obituary of Peter Warner, the Australian captain who happened upon them and rescued them after 15 months. An amazing story indeed, and I'm surprised I never heard it before--I guess the story was better known in Australia. It must be the same story, despite some details being a little different from your version, but the main point was the same as yours, how it differed from "Lord of the Flies," with which it was compared.The boys organized and cooperated and managed to thrive until their rescue. They'd been long since given up for dead and it was a national sensation in Tonga when they were recovered. Ironically, the owner of the boat they stole was not amused, and had them arrested. Their rescuer compensated him and they were released, and they worked on Warner's boat as crew for years afterwards.

    • @planetdisco4821
      @planetdisco4821 3 года назад +4

      @@jamesclendon4811 yes! That’s the one and you’re right it was six young men not four. And they were rescued by an Aussie yachtie after one of them swam out to his boat as it was moored off the island. I only found out about it myself a few months ago and it’s an amazing story. You can find some interviews with the survivors and also see a Ted talk on it by Rutger Bregman on RUclips. There’s also an old media story from the ABC (i think it’s 4 corners) out there that’s worth a look... I think it would make a fantastic movie...

    • @jamesclendon4811
      @jamesclendon4811 3 года назад +2

      @@planetdisco4821 Following the links from the Times obit of Peter Warner, which I couldn't link to here for some reason, I read that movie rights were sold last year, by Warner, the four surviving castaways, and Rutger Bregman, so a movie may eventually be made. Bregman (I've never heard of him), a historian, apparently published an article in the Guardian last May which was very popular and revived interest in the story, leading to the movie sale. Reading the Guardian article about the movie sale, though, I get the feeling that political correctness will keep the movie from ever being made. Certain people are voicing concern that any potential movie be made by Pacific Islanders and reflect and respect Tongan values and culture etc. etc. In other words, they don't want a Hollywood movie. Unfortunately for them, Hollywood has the money to make such a movie, so we'll see.

      I think that 30% figure is actually around 5 -15%, but the damage is still substantial considering every second 28,258 users are watching pornography on the internet and every day 37 pornographic videos are created in the United States (pre-2020 numbers). Netroot found that 35% of all internet downloads are related to pornography while 34% of internet users have experienced unwanted exposure to pornographic content through ads, pop up ads, misdirected links or emails.
      That 5 - 15% was from a 2017 report and I am pretty sure that 2020 produced more amatuer videos than the past decade combined. However, the number of downloads may not equate to the number of websites as the classification is pretty mercurial, i.e is FansOnly a porn site or simply social media group?
