  • The New Flyer D60HF "Galaxy" fleet was the first set of articulated buses purchased by the MTA in 1996, and were the only articulated buses in service nearly a decade, when the MTA ordered the 2010 Novabus LFSA fleet for the Bx12 SBS and M15 SBS. These buses ran out of the Kingsbridge, Gun Hill, and West Farms depots in the Bronx, the Michael J. Quill, Mother Clara Hale, and Tuskegee Airmen depots in Manhattan, and the JFK depot in Queens (a few were also sent to Baisley Park back in 2007-2008 to run on the Q113 to test if the line could handle articulated buses).
    Their first run was on the Bx1 out of the Kingsbridge depot, and the last few runs were on the Bx1/2, Bx9, and Bx39 of the Kingsbridge depot. The vast majority of them were retired as the MTA purchased more articulated buses, namely the Novabus LFSAs and the New Flyer XD60s (New Flyer's successor to the D60HF).
    In this video, you'll see these buses in service along several routes in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Queens, including some onboard ride-along shots as well (timestamps for those clips are 0:40:50, 0:43:02, and 1:14:33). The routes seen here are the Bx1, Bx2, Bx5, Bx6, Bx9, Bx12, Bx15, Bx19, Bx22, Bx26, Bx28, Bx32, Bx36, Bx40, Bx41, Bx42, M14A, M14D, M15, M86, M100, M101, M102, M103, and Q10, as well as the (2) Train Shuttle, (4) Train Shuttle, and (6) Train Shuttle. You'll also see shots of the Novabus LFSAs and New Flyer XD60s that replaced these buses.

    Great video! Out of the two batches, the 1999s were my favorite, but the 2002-03 units were more cozy/comfortable.

      I loved riding these on the Bx9. I REALLY miss the sounds these buses made… you could hear one of those roars from 3 blocks away 😂

    And of course, the one with #5659 was taken on March 31st, 2019. I miss these buses, and all high floor buses (except MCIs and Prevosts, and the Bee-Line Orion V Suburbans). I loved the 1999s more because they were more bassy. I loved the 2002-03s because of the sound they made on takeoff (the Orion VII Hybrids make that same sound sometimes).

      These are the NFI D60HF Series buses, they ran since 1999 all the way to 2018. So you can find these Galaxy fleet buses in the Gun Hill Bus Depot in the bronx. But they are scrapped so they aren't around anymore.

    Great catches. The D60hf was an amazing bus weird to not see them running anymore. But I notice you didn't have luck catching it on the BX35 either I heard they made rare appearances only saw it once in the early 2000s

      I don’t think there’s any documented case of them running on the Bx35... this is definitely the first I’m hearing of it.

    Since when did the D60HFs Run on the Bx32?

    • @the_transfer_point
      @the_transfer_point  3 года назад +1

      They’ve made a few sporadic trips on the Bx32. Between the fall of 2017 and spring of 2018, a bus from the Bx1 / Bx2 ran back uptown from Mott Haven on the Bx32 to Kingsbridge, then went back to the depot.

      @@the_transfer_point Oh, but why did the MTA decide to scrap them? Was there a problem with them?

    • @the_transfer_point
      @the_transfer_point  3 года назад +1

      They were running in service for nearly 20 years... which is well above their average life expectancy (it's typically 15 years, give or take). Not to mention that they were pretty much falling apart towards the end of their time in service.
