This is the best Coton grooming flick I have seen! It's always great when the groomer is familiar with the breed. You do wonderful things with this coton! Thank you so much! You have shown me how I can attempt to maintain my Coton's coat and never have to see her looking like a rag-a-muffin again! Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for this video! I watched it on the weekend in preparation for my first (3!) cotton de tulear as I was a bit unsure and didn't want to give them a bichon look. I ended up doing a shorter version by the owners request but your tips helped a lot, specifically not creating a separation between the ears and the head and flattening the top hair, as well as neck curvature and leg proportions. Long story short the owner was very happy and you basically got me a new client ;)
Thank you for sharing! I have a 3month old Coton and live in Minnesota and wish there were a groomer nearby that was as exceptionally experienced as you!
I love watching your videos, you are excellent. I wish I could bring my Havanese to you. I will continue to watch and learn as I now do my Havanese myself since my groomer retired. I loved my groomer but she basically always just shaved my girl down, I would like to leave my Havi in at least a couple 2-3 inches long but her hair is part curly part straight and its difficult, but these videos and others have really helped me and I’m determined to get it right one day. Thanks a bunch Victoria
Dear Suzanne, I love to watch you and the pups while you groom. You have such an incredible way with them, so gentle and intuitive. Question: I have 2 coton De Tulear siblings Bella & Buster, very thick coats! I wrote down the grooming tools you used above but needed help on where to find the madden pin brush? I found one that was black back with red cushion, however it was advertised as " firm." On the video u recommended a medium firm. Any advise would be so appreciated. Thank you!! Sarah C.
Cute puppy. As always I get so much out of watching your videos. Question, Is there a secret to trimming around the top lip of the mouth if a dog keeps putting his tongue in and out. I'm so afraid of cutting it. Do you have any tips or tricks for that. Thx.
He looks great. I have been looking for someone that knows how to groom a Coton without making them look like a Poodle. Would this be considered part of your Full Grooming Spa under 20 lbs? As much as I hate driving that far from what I see here it may be worth the drive from Valrico to have my babies treated right and looking good.
lsrk65 I did not get them in Florida but I HIGHLY recommend the breeder we use. She is out of MN so there is expense getting the puppy but so worth it. She does so much in terms of prep and communication with pictures and video as the pups are growing. They have a FB page Gallant Cotons and I am happy to answer any questions and even let people meet our 2 that came from there. My wife flew up to pick up our first and we had the baby sent to us on Delta Airlines.
Jeff Nichols thank you so much! I’ll check them out! I want a pup ready in the fall, knowing I’ll be home a lot to spend the needed time. I’m so excited 😆
I would suggest that you don’t allow your Coton to get this much hair before you get him groomed. It’s too scary even with a gentle groomer. And believe me they are not all this patient. My Coton has been used to the clipper since he was 8 weeks old. It really helps them to accept the clipper when they get older. He is now 8 months and he is an old pro at it. He is also used to the Dremel. I am not a professional groomer. I’ve groomed all my Shihtzus but never had a Coton before. I clipped with the yellow attachment backwards. I like his coat shorter or else when he goes outside he collects twigs and leaves and mud - he has short legs. I called him a Swiffer with four legs!

When scheduling this haircut online, book as a Bichon, this will give me the correct amount of time to complete the hand scissored service.
Did you get your Caton in FL? I’m in Ocala, looking for a breeder.

I wish I was able to see your technique trimming face, the angle of the camera doesn't allow.
Sorry, the purpose of the video was to show what I do in my salon, more so than to be a tutorial.
Got it. The eyes looked really good is why I wanted to see.
Tina Dogmom8 I post live videos on Facebook daily at 1pm eastern time. If I have a Coton in at that time I will let you know here 🙂
I live in Ocala and was looking for a good breeder in FL...any recommendations?
