    I've owned my 2021 2500 HD gasser since Nov. 2020. I pull everything from a 33' camper to running Hot Shot loads up to 13,000 lbs. on a regular basis. The 6.6L handles all of it like a champ and has never overheated no matter the grade or temps. And icing on the cake is the fact it has been designed to do all of this on regular gas.

    I have a 2020 model with 35k on it and It has been absolutely awesome..... I tow all the time from light to heavy...... 35 inch tires fit stock and gets 16mpg average in the mountains 22.5 on trips and 8 mpg pulling 19k excavator with a conventional hitch (those numbers are just a recommendation lol) it pulls that easily! And these trucks actually have a 36 gallon tank not 34 like stated.... and with "only" 910lbs of tq it out pulls ford and dodge in the real world. Watch motor trend they did a tractor pull and the chevy ruled the roost! The bow tie is the only one that puts ALL the power to the ground, but you must choose trailer mode........ Andre should have read the manual..... most people don't then complain about stuff they don't know about lol, great review guys just read the manual about lots of things you don't know.....

    GM heavy duty trucks do not have panoramic glass roofs due to there is an antenna wire harness located there. I much prefer the traditional sunroof due to less problems. I have seen many panoramic glass roofs that have cracked from impact or stress. The stress cracks are located at the edges, which is weakest part of the glass.

I pull a 36’ travel trailer which is a world of a difference towing with this beast compared to my ram 1500. I decided to upgrade due to the sway on the hyways. Big plus and good decision. I opted out for the durax because we just didn’t need it. The pay load on my gas truck is 3650 pound which is awesome. Thanks for the great videos!!😃😃😁

    Thanks Andre; great detailed review. I’m enjoying ownership of my 2020 2500HD gasser (6.6L) in a Double Cab LT model; totally good enough for me (don’t care for leather or sunroofs) and for hauling our 31ft. travel trailer (much more solid & secure than a 1/2 ton). Regarding the choice of GM to stick with the 6spd. 6L90 trans., as you I'm sure you saw your friend Kent (Mr. Truck) interview the GM Transmissions Eng. (Richard M.), he provided valid reasons for it. How it has been one of their most reliable trans. in the entire GM/Chev Grouping, also having very high JD Power rating. Glad to have heard that tranny is used in their racing performance cars and Camaro ZL1, yet beefed up for the HD Trucks with components from the HD diesel transmission. Fortunately, I don’t need a diesel (not a daily hauler), and do I love the efficiency & power results of its Direct Fuel Injection, as well as added road safety with AutoTrac (mild yet effective type of AWD) that I use virtually all winter long and on some gravel roads in summer. I could go on about what I love (side steps on the box side, the roomy box which I've added the GM exclusive Side Mounted Bed Storage Box set (2; one for each side) that leaves me with 4 ft. width and full box length, yet allows me to store lots of emergency and other goodies and out of the way (the internal version of a Ram Box). Anyway, I think this naturally aspirated engine is built to last for many years with only minor issues and regular expected maintenance. Take care Andre and crew and thanks again for showing this truck 🛻👍🏼. PS, I did buy an Oil Catch Can unit just to be extra sure I capture any residual blow by, mitigating future caking or coking of components like Intake Valves.

      @NHL CFL Nice truck, but it's 4WD not AWD An AWD system is when the computer controls F/R and side-to-side driving of the wheels, whereas 4WD like you have is F/R only.. There is no side -to-side control.

    • @nhlcfl7733
      @nhlcfl7733 2 года назад

      @@scottandrews4822 Hi Scott. Regarding AWD, as you may know there are many versions of it (QuadraTrac, 4matic, Quattro, SH-AWD, xDrive, Symmetrical AWD, etc., etc.). AutoTrac is certainly front and rear connection or disconnection and with a limited slip differential as well (side to side engagement or not). Discuss or Argue the technology, one can set AutoTrac and not worry about damaging their transfer case or about different speeds of wheels on one side or the other while driving on dry pavement or gravel, etc. Like one could cause damage with 4Hi or 4Lo on similar surfaces. Example, set it during winter and not worry about it whether the road is wet, slushy, or snow packed. Of course for deep snow trudging, 4High or 4Low may be applicable. In summary, GM/Chevy provide such a transfer case in a Heavy Duty truck, an industry 1st, and still the only one. It is what it is.

    • @scottandrews4822
      @scottandrews4822 2 года назад +2

      @@nhlcfl7733 I think you're confusing AutoTrac, a marketing term, with automatic 4WD, which many manufacturers have, at least in their light duty trucks. This is if course different from AWD, regardless of platform. So, it's automatic 4WD, not AWD. Just wanted to clarify the difference. Whether Chevy is the first one to have this in a HD truck, I will assume you're right.

    • @nhlcfl7733
      @nhlcfl7733 2 года назад

      @@scottandrews4822 I agree it is a front to rear engagement or disengagement system. what I read in my manual is that while in AutoTrac mode, the system is monitoring traction all the time and when there is slippage at the rear, it automatically engages the front differential (tires included LOL) to provide added forward motion force from all 4 available tires. With the additional rear slip, it disallows those wheels from turning at the exact same speed amongst other features. Granted this AutoTrac feature will turn on and off numerous times during a road journey, it will wear those components more quickly than leaving it in 2WD. But, then why wouldn’t one use it like on changing gravel road conditions as I do already, and winter time as it adds that additional traction without thinking about it and needing to have your finger on the 4WD button (no one could react as fast as the sensor anyway). I’ve also had this on previous trucks (my 2013 Ram 1500 included had this option in their brand specific version and it never once failed or needed repairs through 7 years of Canadian winters while I owned that truck).

    Excellent Review Andre! I own a Loaded 2021 3500HD LTZ Duramax. I purchased it back in Late Jan 21 right before everything went crazy with availability and price. We tow a 2021 Grand Design Reflection 303RLS Fifth Wheel with this truck. Towing in the mountains (we live in the Sierra) the mpg is about 10.5. When unloaded on flat highway I have seen 21 mpg over a 500 mile trip. You are correct about full torque not being applied from a start (2500HD) but this is not the case on the 3500 as it has a larger rear end and more robust drive line. Full torque and HP are available from a standing start. At 14000 miles to date I love this truck we have bonded LOL.

    Sounds like some things have changed from 2020-2021 models. For example I noticed the wheel wells in the bed of the truck protrude more versus the 2020 so less room in the bed. Also fuel tank lost 2 Gallons versus the 2020 model going from a 36 gallon tank to a 34 gallon tank. Also what I consider a significant reduction in weight capacity towing from the bumper versus the 2020 from 14,500 to 12,000 is unreal. The materials required to build must have cost to much so it looks like they trimmed it down a tad. Still a great truck but I would prefer the LT model because 75k is just to much money for me. Love my 2020 and look forward to years of enjoyment out of it. I have had zero issues with my Chevy 2020 2500 LT I have 15,900 miles on it. I am a repeat Chevy truck owner because they always get me home.

      Used car prices are way up and hard to find hard to even find new at least in the configuration you want right now. I have been considering selling my 2019 Suburban I bought just short of 2 years ago to buy a new High Country. I am a dealer myself but with the prices I have seen at the auction I haven't bought anything in months now. I don't see how I could make money but I saw a few 2019 Suburbans like mine asking as much as $55k that have up to 80k miles. Mine has 35k and I paid $41k for it at auction towards the end of the summer in 19. Guess I better sell mine now then with prices like that lol. Just finding the one I want is nearly impossible. The closest High Country I could find looking around was 200 miles away. Actually mom just totaled her 2017 Lincoln Continental and the insurance gave her an extra $10k to replace it because the prices are so far up. Hard to replace one of those since so few were sold and 2020 was the final year for them. Everybody wants SUVs though so I found a 2020 with 2400 miles on it that is equipped even better then her car was for $45k list price so maybe I can get it even cheaper. That one is hard to believe but I guess nobody wants the big sedans anymore they want SUVs. That car shows on Car Gurus that it has been listed for months and the price had been dropped a time or 2 already on it. Mom's was $65k the one I found was another $10-15k since mom's had the 2.7 Ecoboost this one I found has the 3.0 Ecoboost and it has the panoramic sunroof mom's didn't have that and its AWD. I think the color too is one of the colors that was an upcharge. Mom's still had the adaptive cruise and everything but it was a level down from the 2020 I found. Probably should go check that car out soon if she wants another Continental before somebody else buys it.

    I was under the impression that they did not put those hankook mud tires on the diesel trucks with the z71 sport package or midnight package, surprised to see they do. Not sure if you know it but the lower,12k bumper tow rating is due to those tires. Had you got any other tire, you’d have a 14k+ bumper tow rating.

      @@prinpak6 Frame, axles, probably driveshaft, maybe brakes, all different between 3/4 and 1-ton trucks. I know a RAM 2500 Cummins is limited to 900 lb-ft of torque, whereas the RAM 3500 Cummins has over 1,000 lb-ft of torque. I think Ford and Chevy power rate their 3/4 and 1 ton diesels the same. RAM 2500 has coil springs on the rear axle and 3500 has leaf springs. There are a lot more differences than many people realize, probably more than I realize. Big Truck Big RV channel has done a few videos on the differences.

    Andre just bought a 2022 2500 Silverado duramax based on this video. The most informative thing in this review was your commentary regarding Chevy increasing the gvwr to 11350. The one I purchased has 3400 lbs of payload capacity. I thought I was going to need to purchase a 1ton for payload capacity. I pull a travel trailer and wanted a diesel for the exhaust break. I traded in my 2019 Tundra crew max which pulled my trailer excellently for the Silverado. GM please continue to provide vehicles to TFL as Andre and Mr. Truck do an excellent job with the Ike Guantlet tests. Additionally you adding the lift pump and new TCM to these trucks greatly increase reliability of them and improve your customers satisfaction.
