    Nice summary. One thing I don't think you explicitly mentioned with regard to player behavior was the large amount of cooperation between PMCs, which was a nice change of pace.

    This event made tarkov feel alive again, I think the people that disliked it (mostly) was newer players who aren't yet in the cycle of waiting for wipes, they just wanted to play normal tarkov, but for us more experienced ones with nothing left to do, it was fun.

    It wasn’t just the best Tarkov event, one of the best recent events in online games in general. Most game nowadays just add in themed paid cosmetics and cosmetics you have to grind mundane tasks for, maybe reskin a gamemode, and call it a day.
    Despite how obnoxious or tedious BSG’s events may be sometimes, they actually put effort into their events and try to make a unique/interesting experience, which I appreciate. They could always just start doing what most other games are doing now, but they don’t, even with how much a vocal portion of the community complains about them altering the flow of raids in any fashion.

    2:45 I think the main reason for a lot of people taking the "harder" task is because Jaeger gave you a sicc case for killing sanitar, on top of a thicc weapons case for then planting the vaccines, as opposed to therapist only giving an items case

    • @GlitchersCO
      @GlitchersCO 6 дней назад

      I picked Jager bc fuk therapist

    • @huffmultiple6941
      @huffmultiple6941 6 дней назад +2

      That is 100% the reason and not the arduous journey. If Therapist gave you the SICC/THICC and Jaeger didn’t, everyone would have picked Therapist.

    • @TOx1cSn1p3r627
      @TOx1cSn1p3r627 5 дней назад

      I think another part is that the “harder” path wasn’t that much harder. Sani being 100% spawn and friendly made killing him super easy. Only issue is fighting other players for him but if you get a good spawn and rush him it doesn’t take long. Getting the journal was super easy for me and my buddies. Get an East wing spawn and it’s basically just a quick fetch quest.

    I’m with you Marine, I think the zombies was one of, if not thee best event they have done so far, I had a lot of fun with it. It did get a little annoying that your hydration would tank if you hardly even got scratched, but it was good to create a sense of urgency and get out of the raid.

    This event gave me a damn purpose to roleplay and run specific gear in this game. I ran UNTAR only armor with a slightly modified M4A1 and only ran Streets to hold down the Lexos spot. Unfortunately I never had a perfect raid where I could make it a safe haven for PMCs and Player scavs to chill and help defend but it gave me a purpose to actually attempt roleplaying in Tarkov.

    My idea on how they're could've had more diversity for "opt-in/opt-out" is this:
    Take the idea of map rotation to heart. Have 2-3 maps be fully cleared of zombies for a time. Be it under the lore that the bosses locked that area down, or task turn ins from players. Have a few maps with a low amount of zombies, such that you feel it but aren't being swarmed. Then have the maps where you're getting swarmed and dealing with zombies near 100% of the raid. Then, rotate what maps have these features on them daily or every other day.
    Furthermore, something I think would be cool is on either only zombified maps, or all 3 of the above scenarios, that a POI would be extremely overrun but have increased loot. For example, Shoreline the new scav camp area. Imagine the rest of the map has little to no zombies so you could play the game normally if you're a new player or not interested in diving into the event at the moment, but the Scav camp had an ungodly amount of undead swarming it but you knew for certain that if you could get in there and survive there were a couple bitcoins or GPUs. This would also create big hotspots for PvP as a lot of folks would be seeking the couple of active POIs for the day in the map rotations during this hypothetical set up.

    I was one of those players that logged in, played a few raids, logged off and never logged in again after that. At most i think i got 50-80 zombie kills and that's it. I'm too tired to play this game on my normal work days and when the game is forcing me to play by adding those time limited events that you have to play, complete certain quests, play on certain maps... It just kills my vibe. I was already too burned out after trying to do kappa and being stuck on sbih for a while because I suck at the game nowadays. The energy I've had for tarkov was nowhere near enough to complete this event or any of the events before that

    Things I liked about the event were that it made usually obsolete ammo the meta and made it very easy to finish a lot of pesky quests that require scav kills. The only real issue I had with it was the zombies with guns. That kind of took me out of the immersion.

  • @Syndex_
    @Syndex_ 6 дней назад +5

    It was a fun Halloween event and given I got the achievement done solo as a middle of the road skilled player kinda shows me people weren't willing to adapt imo. Granted I did get lucky with a few of the quests that people were friendly but 50%-75% of the time they weren't, all that was really needed to succeed in the event was a playstyle change. Which for a lot of people is growing pains hence the general discomfort to annoyance most players felt.
    Also worth noting I did the "bad guy quest achievement", though the reason being in that it didn't tank Jaeger rep (weirdly it tanked therapists rep to do her quest) Secondly the achievement picture for it was cooler imo. Though looking back probably could of done it since sanitary was an easy kill given he was friendly and you could walk up and blast him.

  • @mushimi_
    @mushimi_ 6 дней назад +13

    Definitely the best concept for an event and I'm not sure they could top it, it fits the feel of Tarkov so well. Ultimately though the buggy zombie movement, the no hit regs, the insane swarming mechanics even if you use a suppressed weapon... these things ruined it for me easily. To add to that I had only just started playing this wipe a week or so before the event started, so it completely halted all progress I could make with questing and I didn't have tens of millions of roubles banked up or the flea market to be able to build quick kits easily.
    If you're playing Tarkov daily you probably loved this event. If you're any sort of casual you probably stopping playing like me and waited for the event to be over. Real shame as it had huge potential.

    The Halloween 2024 event in Escape from Tarkov was a mix of fun and frustration for me.
    I completed the Good Guy achievement with a friend, sticking to a constant duo. As a level 20 casual player with limited resources, gathering vaccine materials was tough, but I managed to find good prices for what I needed. My go-to weapons were semi-auto shotguns with either 7mm Buck or FTX slugs for 2-3 shot thorax kills, and anything semi-auto firing 7.62x51mm Ultra Nosler ammo because it was cheap and had great flesh damage.
    For PvE, the FN P90 with R37 (X or Z) ammo carried me through about half the tasks. I had to repair it 5 times because by the end of most raids, its durability would drop to 30-50. Unfortunately, I didn’t finish the PvE achievement since I spent a lot of time in PvP.
    The event had some great moments. I really enjoyed the cooperation between PMCs and Scavs, the friendly AI interactions, and the sheer fear of zombie hordes rushing you. But there were also some frustrating parts. Pistol zombies were a big annoyance, constantly harassing you when you needed to heal or reload and often blacking limbs or causing heavy bleeds. The infection mechanic felt unfair-getting infected from a single melee hit while wearing all that gear didn’t make sense. The dehydration debuff was brutal, too. Drinking water barely lasted 20-30 seconds, and if you were dehydrated, running from zombies was practically a death sentence.
    Overall, the event was fun despite the annoyances. It brought a mix of fear, strategy, and teamwork that made it stand out.

    As someone who got burned out by Tarkov halfway into the wipe and stepped away, the event made me come back and it was a blast- though I didnt end up finishing it due to losing momentum 3/4ths through
    I will say though that the hit reg, jittery zombie movement, invisible zombies, pistol zombies (some of which had .45 AP and AP 6.3) and general performance degradation from zombie spawns really dragged down my enjoyment of the event. It was also definitely an event that absolutely obliterated my money stash- while I had the benefit of saving up tens of millions of rubles, many of my friends didnt and had an absolutely miserable time as a result
    still, i'd say that the positives outweigh the negatives- i just hope that BSG keeps up with more original events like this, while balancing out the ability for both casual and hardcore players to make meaningful progress

    I enjoyed the idea of the event. It got tedious in the end and it seemed like there were just zombies everywhere. They never stopped. I liked the variety of the zombies. I hated that pistol zombies never ran out of ammo. But, overall, I really enjoyed my time with it. Scav'ing in an infected zombie zone was crazy wild. We figured out that Zagustin worked proactively, but nothing after you got infected.

    Zagustin gave you a 3 minute window to be attacked by zombies without getting infected, basically sealing your wounds before the infection could get in, but you needed to be away from a horde or running multiple stims to counteract it.

    I've spent more time in labs during this event then total before in the last 6 wipes. It helped me to learn the layout, navigate between the departments and learn the connections. it was a very good occasion to enable the labs and reduce the sweatiness of that place.
    Also the event quests were sometimes annoying (grenade and melee kill zombies) and sometimes surprisingly fun like the Reserve quest.

    Seems like it was a dope concept, the fact it was end-wipe though made returning to the game after having not played since the first month or so of wipe quite frustrating, but that's just how tarkov is. In my experience one of the first quests in the event was either updated and nobody had posted about the change or it was just completely bugged whenever my group tried it out, meaning we were stuck on labs which was one of the harder maps of the event IMO because of how centralized the quest content was, which made it super easy for someone to camp the compact corridors of the lab. I never ended up getting to play most of the other maps which is a real shame. The concept itself was awesome though, major props to BSG for it.

    As a leg meta casual, I went into this event with a small stock of Warmage from earlier in the wipe. I always thought that gritty tarkov would make a really cool old school cod zombies. Like world at war or black ops 1... Then I remembered I have not Str or end in tarkov + getting shot tanks your stamina, and stamina takes forever to recover. Was a neat event, I normally quit tarkov about 2 months into the wipe, this wipe myself and my group did play all that long, maybe 1 month.

    I don’t have a lot of time to play, but I still loved the event. It was hard but once you got used to seeking high ground and taking out the pistol zombies it was fun. I just ran an uzi with like 8 mags of PST, it worked well in zombies with a short burst and would still kill a PMC. I liked the fact that you could also run totally wierd kits that you would never use in PVP. I met a guy on woods with an APS pistol, we teamed up in village and took the car extract. Good times.

    The event was awesome but it could've gotten more love as we were expecting a grand finale that never came (such as last year's Halloween). They could've just put all the bosses in a safe area map that has 0% infection and make some sort of grand finale plot out of it. The curation of the event launch was excellent, the actual live stream with the trailer reveal was a chef's kiss. The zombies could've been tweaked to compensate for server issues such as reducing the number of zombies but increasing their health pool. Fog could've been utilized to up the scare factor as well. But all in all, it was a great event that threw the community into a nice awkward frenzy. Perfect duration & complexity, lackluster ending.

    Your idea of an airdrop could be actually awesome! Think about it... if BSG would ever bring the infected back, it could be a great follow-up on the previous questline. For example, there would be a more mutated version of the virus, but the old vaccines would still help and be made into stims to elleviate (or worsen) the effects of infection. We could say Sanitar arranged the airdrop to be opened and pushed his variant of the bad vaccine for $$, so it would be random if you take the good one or the bad one.
    This event was a great initiative from BSG, but pistol zombies need a nerf - specially the insta heavy bleeds! Change it to light instead. The amount of zombies in a session should also be corelated to the amount of PMCs (or friendly AI) present. It was hell to complete some tasks as a solo PVE player and incorporated a buttload of luck.
    Also, the movement of the zombies were wonky to say at least and needs improvement.
    Anywho... love your work and keep it up!

  • @AMike75
    @AMike75 6 дней назад

    I’d like to add my input.
    From a PvP standpoint, it was perfect once they nerfed the spawn rate on labs (I think they lowered it by 10% if I remember correctly).
    On PvE, this was a freaking nightmare until they lowered it to 60% on labs. I honestly feel somewhere around 75% would have been perfect. PvE was a living hell trying to get anything done on smaller maps like labs and factory. With no players drawing the agro of the zombie spawns, it made playing with them an endless rushing wave.
    At first I really really hated this event, though by day 4-5, I loved it. I was looking forward to logging in and playing. It was really nice to see how the game changed and the community adapted over night. Whether that be from assisting each other in raid, the economy completely shifting, or the fast pace always having a get out plan gameplay that was needed. I’ve been PC gaming since the 90’s and have played a lot of auction house style games. The only time a live economy flips upside down is usually from players utilizing exploits or glitches. This was fantastic to see and honestly just impressive how BSG managed to show care for the player base that weren’t rich but also switch up the dynamics. You were able to buy M856A1 first less than 9mil RIP was going for and that is insane!
    I only have two gripes about this event that are so easy to fix - 1.) the zombies vertical and horizontal movement patterns need to be extremely polished. Additionally, the glitching was horrendous. There were so many times where I was so proud of myself for getting to a certain point and having a ton of loot and a zombie would almost just spawn on top of me in a closed room (being away from the doors I mind you). I’m only lvl 30 so Ofcourse it was over after that trying to make it back through labs with no metabolism.
    - 2.) the infection was a broken mechanic that seemed rushed and not thought out at all. I could never stray far from an extraction that was prepared in advance for an “oh shit” moment. It took so much fun that could have been had out of the game. I would of rather BSG applied a massive hemorrhage effect that would bleed quickly with each stack applied, this effect wouldn’t kill you and would only stop once you hit
    1 HP or ended after 30 seconds. Having a problem that was unfixable and slowly killed you was horrible. You just never wanted to play long or venture too far out. Why did some players not have really any negative effects and others suffer the long hard fisting? Just doesn’t make much sense.

    One thing that I think a lot of experienced players forget and don't realize is the the dehydration mechanic that the zombies gave you was so hard to manage as it damaged you so quickly when your metabolism skill isn't maxed out like people that are experienced would have. So added that level of difficulty on top of already those who are novice at the game dealing with not knowing the maps super well. Not knowing Labs very well. Not even understanding the mechanics of the different Ammo types doing more or less damage to unarmored targets. On top of also the just sheer amount of zombies overwhelming solo players. It was a fun event but I think a lot of experienced players had it a bit easier.

    Im not surprised the M4A1 was in the list of most used weapons, I used it along with RRLP and the 100 round mags and it was pretty effective. The difference between 1 and 2 headshots to take zombies down didn't matter much when I was bringing 400+ rounds in each raid, I never ran out of ammo and had many raids with 60-80+ zombie kills

    I know there was a lot of hate over the event, and I definitely agree that there were ALOT of issues with the zombies specifically, which was literally the CORE identity of the event, and the core of an event being buggy, unreliable or frustrating will cause ALOT of issues. But, the sound design, the infection affecting your audio, the way the zombies sounded, the atmosphere of the event, everything felt really cool. With the fall weather as well, it felt like a whole new game. It was super fun, super spooky, and I really enjoyed it. That is, when the zombies weren't bugging out, infinitely spawning, teleporting or insta-killing me.
    I'm relatively new to the game, I only picked up the game after the PvE stuff dropped, because I suck against real players, I got one shot every time, I didn't like it. In PvE, playing solo, the zombies were nigh impossible to deal with, but I still felt it was really fun.

      I haven't heard alot of people talking about it, but the zombies were attracted to loud sharp noises, like sprinting, shooting or grenades. When you as a player got infected, you actually heard those specific noises getting louder. If you sprinted while infected, your footsteps were VERY loud, shooting a non-suppressed gun was SO loud. It was a really interesting thing to note, gameplay wise. I do wish the zombies were more consistent in tracking and attraction, as usually if a zombie marked you, it wouldnt lose interest in you AT ALL unless you sprinted like 4 rooms away, closing 4 doors behind you and then breaking all noise, but even then they would still find you. I think that would have been SO much better if it was worked on a bit more.
      All in all, I think the audio and game design of nearly everything was incredible, the only issue I found was just the zombies themselves, and everyone already knows all of those issues.

    Easily the coolest Event imho :)
    "Best" is a stretch due to server instability, performance issues for some, lack of opting out and being able to join late and still finish the event in time (once infection levels tapered off).
    If they only had zombies active during either day or night cycles (maybe alternating) so people could still quest normally, drop all quests at once instead of staggering the release and letting people complete it even on the last day, it would have def been the best!

    This event was a 7/10 for me, a bit above average. Was really fun idea and enjoyed the story going through it. Personally, my friend and I have always been intrigued by the idea of zombies in tarky even before this event because of our playtime on DayZ. Next time they just need to make sure to keep the bugginess to a minimum and tweak some things and this would probably become a fan favorite

    In the end, I loved the event. At first I hated it, because I thought it was so unfair. But it’s a survival game, so I adapted my gameplay. What's more, I have a friend who made a pertinent remark: "Why don't we play bad ammos that do a lot of damage but don't penetrate?" And it did make sense, since they didn't have any armor. This event was great and allowed me to get my stash up to max level easily.

    I loved this event from start to finish and it makes the story overall... seem to work better to me! If its just a few shamblers and random outbreaks here and there I would LOVE it to stick around cause it made the game infinitely more fun to me. The zombies make sense of everything I've wondered about why the Lab even has a containment zone. Why people were fleeing Tarkov, why Ground Zero is Ground Zero. Sanitar going insane makes way more sense too! Made the variety I had to carry actually enjoyable. 100/100 to me. I would LOVE this mechanic to stick around!

    personally the all bosses on shoreline resort and the tank battery event were my two favorites, the cultist one from not too long ago was pretty neat as well. I hated this zombie event at first but as it went on it became more enjoyable once it seemed like the swarm size of the zombies was toned down. The infection level of labs was basically 100 the whole time yet i swear there were less zombies on day 5 compared to day 1.

    The event was a success, and a great one, the people not liking it have a very big mouth for most and/or refused to play along making it took like it was a bad event, I seen so many people not understanding that EFT is a rpg first, not even checking their dmg ammos and so on.
    Same with not using stims, complaining they get broken legs while running, not having enough stam etc, we have tons of stims for it, just pre-stims and run. People tempt to complain way too quickly as usual, at the end a lot could get tons of money and very very rare items in pumpkins or even finishing very hard tasks during the infection. Now we back to boring 10 years old tasks, I really hope every event will be this big from now on.

    I loved it. It was an absolute blast. It was so much fun to play the game in a different way. Flesh ammo was good. Different guns were good. You navigated the map differently. You focused on different things. It was a blast to take the game we've all played forever now and see it turned on its head. It wasn't perfect, but it was the first event where we really got a different experience out of it instead of just playing normal Tarkov with slightly different goals.
    I have max metabolism, so the virus didn't bother me, but I can see that needing to be fixed in some way if they do this again. Even having it so that drinking water temporarily halted the hydro drain so that you'd get a few minutes before it started draining again would be fine, I think. But yeah the virus basically forcing you to leave raid would be really crappy.

    9:30 Would also like to add that the Super 90 can be received from Ref for a super cheap price. It's the only shotgun he sells. I personally always used it during this event since I wasn't using GP coins for anything else. Plus, I imagine many players (such as myself) spent more time on Arenas thanks to frustration from this event. The times I did return, I had tons of GP coins transferred over, and the Super 90 was the only real effective thing Ref sold.

    I think what is not to be overlooked is the sheer amount of NPCs on the maps and neither the servers nor the clients went down in performance that much. This hopefully means we can have much more NPCs and more players on the same maps.
    This amount of scavs in the past would not have been possible.

    This halloween event did a good job for showing the capability of bsg. Compared to other fps shooters with zombies, This has the realism as the player. Zombies may be a bit broken, but its not like you can slide ads immediately like COD.

    Liked the video as I liked the event! Of course, it was completely not beginner-friendly but hey, that's Tarkov I guess xD I was already level 50 and had almost 3 money cases of GP coins when the event started so I could buy a lvl 5 vest everttime I went in. I played most of the time street and played it completely solo. Most of the time I use an M60 with a razor and the first mag had m60 from ref in it and the second up to fourth mag got ultra nosler. depends on what i wanted todo. hen I went to both marked rooms and hive and maybe concordia i got almost every time 50-70 kills. everytime I did huge traversals I popped a zagustin to get save - especially when I was already fully looted.

    Good: First event a casual player could actually finish the questline of! Grindy it was, but not as bad as usually.

    I know not a lot of people were starting new run during this event, but it would have been nice to not have the low level Ground Zero have these. New players and even new wipe chars weren't equipped to deal with starting a wipe with tons of zombies running around swarming them. Agree with a lot of the positives and negatives you mentioned. Man that pistol zombie coring you out and stacking heavy bleeds was rough.
