Boy... I wish You were around doing photography when I started out (1975). I just love your presentation methods. I'm so glad I fell onto your tutorials. I've since retired from pro shooting, but you are a joy to observe and hear. Thank you Daniel Norton.
I hope someday to meet both of you. Just became addicted and bought an icon Z9 and then went nuts with flash and photo light equipment. Live just outside New York City can't wait to go in and start taking pictures. Learned so much from watching your videos Daniel and Marissa is truly beautiful I think she's my favorite model that you photograph She always look so fantastic.
Fabulous delivery as usual. Love the longer format, more insigh but still easy to digest. And awesome charasmatic model, helps a lot. Thank you Daniel and Adorama. Keep them coming.
This is fantastic! I love the One Light tutorial shoots you do. I think alot of newer photographers get the impression you need 3, 4 or more lights to get great photos. Awesome job to Daniel and of course...high-five to the amazing Marisa!
This format has a very "workshop" feel which is nice, and both you and your model are relaxed, funny and fun to watch. The downside is it takes much longer to get the ideas across so the viewer has to have spare time to burn. I really got a kick out of a number of off-hand comments you made, like the one about assuming TTL isn't going to work, which is spot on. :)
ttl works for joe mcnally but not for me. I wonder if one reason why it works for mcnally is he shoots from tripod so his camera oisition does not change while building the shoot.
Favorite things about this video: (1) Marissa (2) Long format (3) "....because it's always important to be in focus on your black frame." Envious of: (1) All of those c-stands and studio equipment Not envious of: (1) Canon Great video!
Cool video. I like to longer videos. Love to see more like it. I also love the OnSet #66 video with Sharry Allan you guys did. Love to see more videos like that too.
Thanks Daniel and Marisa! I love this style of lighting. It reminds me of the quality of light in Herb Ritts' pictures. Wonderful what you can get with such a simple setup. Of course I wonder how this would work in a darker studio? Or doesn't that matter since you first shot your black frame to cancel out any ambient?
Great to see the set up from the start, thanks for that! And the model - ah, she's gorgeous and has a lovely personality! Is it Melissa? (if I'm not mistaking)
Well done. Good timing. You should let your model do some of the great face looks she was giving us when you were messing with the equipment. She is animated and totally adorable.
A bit of not to fast time lapse plus voice over might give us the benefits of “from scratch” without excessive length. Marissa is a real asset to the video.
Another great tutorial, thanks Daniel! Why use a standard light stand for the scrim jim, rather than a c-stand? (I can imagine if you need to move it a lot, but a c-stand would be so much more stable, yes?)
Good video. It seems CaptureOne cycle time for presenting the photos is pretty short. I've used the capture feature of LightRoom and it didn't cycle near this fast. I wonder if it's the software or the hardware that''s making the difference. I wasn't using a very fast laptop.
Thank you for your videos. What types of stand and grips & clamps, etc..did you used to hold the Scrimm Jim? Also, what top piece did you use to attach your light to the C-stand?
The stand is from Manfrotto, it is for the "super boom" www.adorama.com/bg008bu.html (with wheels added) a standard grip head and the old version of the Scrim Jim clamp. - nothing special to attach the flash.
We are using a wireless Lav type mic like this one www.adorama.com/seew112pg3a.html so the Microphone is with me no matter where I move, not on the camera.
hm this felt a little more confused / unprepared and harder to understand than what we are used to on this channel. a beginner might have some difficulty keeping up motivation to continue watching through it. great and entertaining model saved a lot though :D
I dont like longer video format, guess im a little impatient. Ive always loved your videos dont get me wrong! Side note: I love that she did the mime in the box things HAHA!
she has to be the best addition you've made to your vlogs... keep that girl, we totally agree she rocks.
Your model is not only gorgeous, but she has a fantastic personality. You are very lucky to have her.
Agreed. Having a photographer like this guy helps to boost a model's helpful spirit and confidence a bit too...

i like being able to watch how he builds up the shot. it actually helped me in my own studio shoots.
Black and white is beautiful, but for this gorgeous model, I would love to see her eyes in color. Her eyes are super gorgeous!

Like the format, it helps to see how you put it together. And the model was GREAT! She entertains while you do the boring set up stuff.
I love this girl...she is sooooooooooo versatile. Her personality is fantastic. ou guys are so lucky to have access to such a great model. So funny
Marissa always does a great job, thank you Daniel for all you teach us.
You two have a great chemistry! It‘s always great education and entertainment to watch both of you work a shoot! This is a true treasure for free!
the girls is so funny. luve her
The longer format that shows building the shot is great!
Fabulous delivery as usual. Love the longer format, more insigh but still easy to digest. And awesome charasmatic model, helps a lot. Thank you Daniel and Adorama. Keep them coming.

What a great innovation - a very talented model entertains us while you set up.
Love the longer formats, and Marisa is awesome ;) love the fact she's not another "green plant"
Great job. I love the longer formats that show how you build the shots.
Love this video. I had never heard of the term "north light" until today. Thanks for the explanation.
Marissa in a box is the best thing I have seen on RUclips in a while.
Favorite things about this video: (1) Marissa (2) Long format (3) "....because it's always important to be in focus on your black frame."
Envious of: (1) All of those c-stands and studio equipment

Great video!
It's nice to re-visit some of these earlier episodes. A little refresher.
I definetly love the longer format... as long as Marissa is involved of course. :)
I like this format Dan! Always enjoy seeing behind the scenes.
Marisa is spectacular. She is at that Victoria Secret level of personality and breathtaking good looks.
Melissa is an absolute diamond
nice vid mate, been looking into getting a scrim Jim..or a scrim me
I have found my desire lighting setup, thanks Daniel!
Best out of the box model ever 👍🏻
Enjoyed this longer format showing the whole process. Nice one.
Cool video. I like to longer videos. Love to see more like it. I also love the OnSet #66 video with Sharry Allan you guys did. Love to see more videos like that too.
You are a great photographer and she is a fantastic model
LOL. Love the model's sense of humor.
love this format, learn so much.......BTW what a great model that helps you with the set!
Love this angel model so much, elegant, funny and devoted. :D
like the longer format, nice to see the shot from scratch
This model so cute 🙂☺
Thank u adorama Tv u the best.
Came for the light, stayed for her personality
She's great! You ain't bad either dude! Totally honest tutorials! !
Really cool intricate shots with modifier use. Give us more advanced options to try and master, as well as the methodology behind them. Thanks again.
Love this format. Please do more.
This is pretty cool! Thanks a lot! Love your way of explaining things! Great model Marisa too!
Love the long format!
Great work all round. Very entertaining and informative. Cheers
Excellent job! Appreciated the explanations as you progress thru the shoot.
Gotta love Marisa! One day I hope to be able to shoot with her.
Capture One eh?
Hmmmm might be an alternative to LR. I do like the longer format.. this way we can see everything and how you do it.
Thanks You two!
Hahaha .. Marisa is so funny. Thanks for teaching how to do the set up. :)
Excellent - definitely prefer the longer format. Great to follow your thought process
Great longer format, I love this!
"Help and sandwiches. Those are two things you never say 'no' to."
This is likely to be my motto for the next 50 years or so.
Great format I like the building of the shot
Great to see the set up from the start, thanks for that! And the model - ah, she's gorgeous and has a lovely personality! Is it Melissa? (if I'm not mistaking)
Well done. Good timing. You should let your model do some of the great face looks she was giving us when you were messing with the equipment. She is animated and totally adorable.
Good one Daniel. As always.
Paul Bernardi nah. Very good.
This is really very helpful. Thanks a lot for sharing.
Haha your model upstaged you on this shoot. I can only hope to have such a spirited model! Thanks for the informative video too!
Great "workshop" feel. Do it again....
extra thumbs up for the beautiful model
Another great video! 👍😉
Help, sandwiches, and of course, homemade brownies... :)
I love the long form style
Love your vibe !
La Petite Cassette that woman is a cutie..
Chris Knight that stand is from the super boom so it’s pretty sturdy and I knew I’d be rolling it, but sure a C stand would have been great.
She allowed the "water" in the box, to flow all over your studio floor :)
Love those Canon D1X's.......
Superformance72 special limited edition model 📷
Good video. It seems CaptureOne cycle time for presenting the photos is pretty short. I've used the capture feature of LightRoom and it didn't cycle near this fast. I wonder if it's the software or the hardware that''s making the difference. I wasn't using a very fast laptop.
I like this style! It gives a good feel how you are building the set and shoot. But putting the poor model in a box... o wel ;) Great model by the way
Thank you for your videos. What types of stand and grips & clamps, etc..did you used to hold the Scrimm Jim? Also, what top piece did you use to attach your light to the C-stand?

Asking Marissa; 95 percent of success! :)
Does TTL meter off the focus point or the whole shot?
Prettiest model on earth
I like watching the set from the start
Thomas Philhower same here. Always seeing his clips..
Daniel, how do YOU deal with banding that happens when you have a solid colour background that is not evenly lit across its width and height?
Not sure I've experienced such banding.
Can you get the same effect with a 7-foot umbrella?
It will be similar, but slightly more direction
Great video
Plz show to keep mic in shooting the video from a far distance plz.....
We are using a wireless Lav type mic like this one www.adorama.com/seew112pg3a.html so the Microphone is with me no matter where I move, not on the camera.
Is the use of a flash meter no longer relevant
awesome tutorial thank you!
Could u just use a 6 or 7’ umbrella?
10:44 was like Woooooooooooooowwwww!!!!
Do you use LR.?
hm this felt a little more confused / unprepared and harder to understand than what we are used to on this channel. a beginner might have some difficulty keeping up motivation to continue watching through it.
great and entertaining model saved a lot though :D
Dont know about you, but I feel shes fantabolous. Is she married?
Why use TTL ? i can see ep ?
+ 1 like for Marissa and her box xP !
whats the name of the program you are using while adding adjustments or changing exposures ?
Capture One
I dont like longer video format, guess im a little impatient. Ive always loved your videos dont get me wrong! Side note: I love that she did the mime in the box things HAHA!
This girl has been in my dreams every night for the past 90 days... someone help me.
You gave me an idea!
I love that girl :D
She's too funny!!!
She is awesome hehehe so funny.
What tripod are you using??
Manfrotto 055
I am currently looking for my Marissa. *sigh*
Majority of comments be like “we like your model”...
The tutorial is good but there are portions that could have been omitted because they did not add anything and are boring.
I am a Marisa fan
You never say "no" to help and sandwiches....... and TACOS!
