Here's my(well not really my) Jay Leno story. My cousin is in L.A. for a car show. He helps restore classic cars. He meets Jay Leno at this show and even though Jay Leno isn't remotely interested in anything the company my cousin is currently working for is selling he talks to him for like a half hour and they exchange numbers. Cut to 5 months later the company my cousin was working for has folded because they were just focusing on the worst classic cars or something. Jay Leno calls him up and tells him he's bought some really old car and is looking for people to come work personally for him to restore it. My cousin jumps on the opportunity. Makes more money for one job than he has in his entire life and then gets referred to this other company by Jay and another guy he worked with on the restoration and has lived in LA for the last 15 years working for that company and bought his mom and sister a house. All this to say Jay Leno seems like a really nice guy.
Love it when civilians confirm celebrities are legit;). Jay’s a regular dude who fell into late night TV and earned every penny and gets to be a badass with money;)
I don't give a fuck about cars, but I was hooked this entire episode. Keep interviewing non-celebrities, these conversations are so much more interesting!
Ditto. Then again it was a wake n bake morning here in Canada. But even without a pop of Kush there's no way I would have figured out that Hyundai lady 0% financial analogy... DT's response was brilliant...
@@stickynorth When you take 0% financing you cannot get the extra 1500 dollar rebate. So you will pay more for the car over the course of the time of the loan. This might be fine if the alternative is like a 6-10% interest rate. But her other option was 1.6% with 1500 dollars off. So since it was a Hyundai and likely not super expensive she would pay less over the course of the loan
At first the math didn't seem to add up but it does, let's say the car was $20k, she has $10k for the downpayment. So essentially the loan is for $10k, let's say it was for 4 years/48 months at 0% that's 10,000 ÷ 48 = 208.34 a month at 1.2% with $1500 taken off the loan is for $8500, 8500 X 1.012 = $8602 (there's only $102 in interest) So right away even with a 1.2% interest rate, it's $1,398 cheaper with the $1500 vs buying the car at 0% for $1500 more. The 1.2% monthly payment over 4 years/48 months would be 8,602 ÷ 48 = 179.21 208.34 - 179.21= 29.13
It's getting there... this in a few other Paula Poundstone get O'Brien and Soren's podcast Siri Silverstein and John Hodgeman. Jesse he does great interviews. The guys at red letter media ... All I look for anymore it's a good laugh.
I find the "let them eat in peace" culture of the western US so relatable. As a mail carrier, everyone you serve kind of feels like a celebrity, in that you know weirdly personal things about everyone on your route. You develop a sort of unnatural degree of affection for them and get pretty invested in their well-being. It's a very strange thing to feel close to a stranger. Like, when this really kind woman lost her dad, it made me sad all day even though she's just some lady who banks where I bank and enjoys gardening and returns her native tree surveys. I think that's why so many mail carriers go nuts or just get really bitter if they're already kind of unstable: because every complaint feels like it's from a friend.
As a gearhead, this was much appreciated. Also, we need to hear the unedited part where they talk about EVs. A topic much spicier than people anticipate
This was a great ep. I feel like I learned something, even though I was as lost as Daniel sometimes. Love hearing from interesting, common people that have done a lot but aren't famously recognized for it. Feels like a breath of fresh air.
