We also have a place called Öland, which would translate to island land! (Or beer duck but the first one is the original 🫠) and Öland is basically how you say island. It’s an isle land, island! And in old Swedish or old Norse, island was Öy, isle (ahyl), öy, so they were pretty similar once! And in Norway I belive it’s still called Øy

I think what it does is you can put an ö at the end of a name for an island, to call it an island. It makes some sense. In danish, the letter is ø. So if you were going to Fanø, or Rømø, you would be going to Fan island, or Røm island. Yes, the ö is also a letter.
