- New audio obtained by NBC News reveals the 911 call made by an aide for Sec. Lloyd Austin. In the audio, a caller asked the ambulance to not use its lights or sirens and to try to be "subtle". Mr Austin's delay in telling colleagues and the White House about his cancer and surgery complications has sparked political uproar and investigations. The retired general was released on Monday following two weeks in hospital.

I hope he has a swift and full recovery and we start drawing a line between what is news worthy and what is private medical events that are not relevant for the public to know.
I agree with the sentiment in terms of not relevant to the public, the average Joe doesn’t need to know, but when the president does not know and multiple top level officials don’t know either… that is a fundamental mistake. A memo saying x official is in the hospital for x thing would’ve been on the news for a minute, then swept away bc no one would care. This has been on the news since he kept it quiet 💀

That's true. However his position should require a disclosure of a situation like this. Allegedly the white house didn't know. It appears he thinks he can do whatever he wants. It cannot be that way. I believe he feels he's privileged.

I can't understand why this event was supposed to be a highly visible occurrence seeing that this man is in charge of the defense of the country.
I understand his còñcern. When an ambulance came for me, people came out of their houses to watch like they were watching a parade. One lady even walked into my house and I was furioùs.
First rule of government, don’t flaunt your security vulnerabilities. It’s the fact that the President didn’t know he was in the hospital that makes this noteworthy.

why woudl the president need to be the person you call? if you call in sick. do you need to call the owner of your company? even if your the head of a department in your company you dont need to do that. you jsut contact those below you and let them handle the situation.

There's a chain of command for a reason. He's in charge of our nation's defense. He didn't have to disclose his medical condition but he at least should have told his second in command (who was on vacation) or his third. No one at the Pentagon knew where he was except that person who made the call. If something had happened time would have been wasted tracking him down.

There is absolutely nothing to this video - nothing.
I had to go to the ER on recently due to a kidney stone. I said it wasn't a dire emergency and asked that they not use sirens and lights when they came to the house, which they did. If it wasn't an emergency, it was policy not to use lights and sirens in transit to and from a location.
When I got into the ambulance, they asked me which of 3 different hospitals I wanted to go to in our area. I picked the one with the least likely busy schedule, which was a good decision. I also picked one that was in my medical network.
So, what's the point of this video?
Nothing, other than trying to manufacturer some sort of scandal out of absolutely nothing.

Frankly, I think there needs to be fewer lights and sirens in residential areas. Calling for medical assistance shouldn't be a three ring circus of paramedics, police, ambulance, and fire trucks.

I had a heart attack and I called the ambulance they came no hurry only lights. I know I’m just a nobody but don’t understand why they needed sirens and lights pick the man up deliver him to the hospital for care.

Lights and sirens are used so they don't wreck with other vehicles and have to call two more ambulances to gurney the new victims .

During the night shifts, normally, I only use lights. During tha day lights are not enough to reach fast a target.
