- When the wife comes up with a project idea that is outside my skill set, er I mean "tool set", then it is time to call in a professional. In this video we make an effort to get better organized in our breezeway with some new professionally built cabinets.
The cabinet guy's shop was huge and clean. Impressive
Neil, I have said it before and will say it again. You sir are the Bob Ross of DIY projects. It’s amazing what you do. I just wish we were neighbors. Happy Sunday and have a good week.
What a great way to put it!
The sign a DIY electrician knows what they’re doing is aligning the trim screws up and down. Nice Work!
My favorite part of that is the term for it, clocking your screws
Just wanted to say that you have become my favorite channel as of late. I look forward to drinking my coffee each weekend keeping up with your projects. You keep me motivated to keep working on my own stuff, and the little pieces of wisdom help keep me humble. Thank you so much.
Appreciate the kind words!
Dig-Drive-Hire-A-Guy (plus a little light demolition and electrical work) Happy Sunday everyone!
Lol I was just going to say that
Trimming up that vent was PERFECT! GREAT problem solving. LOVE that extra plug-in last min. That will be great for boot warm warmers or dryers
To me the best part of the video was the great smile on your wife's face, I think if most men saw that smile we would do anything for our wives. I was a builder for 40 odd years and the number of times I saw a smile like that when the job was finished I could count on one hand.
Great video! It’s always nice to see local businesses showing off their craftsmanship. Our Golden Retriever uses his bell when he wants attention too he actually rang it as I was watching the video.
Beautiful cabinets, well made, expertly installed, and well organized. You did an excellent job on the electrical box changes. Thanks for the update, enjoyed watching.
Neil, You make a great Bob Vila, just the way you explained the project and connected us with the craftsman, and walked us through the project. Oh good job on the electrical work Bravo! Well, see ya on the next pne neighbor
New mudroom looks beautiful. It changed the whole dynamic of the room, not to mention that the color of the walls also seemed to change as well without repainting. Amazing job done by the cabinet maker and installer. Skills that are in high demand but not many want to do anymore. Awesome video Neil. Gotta say this is my favorite one to date, probably because I was a carpenter for 18 years framing houses. I still build game rooms and bars from time to time for friends and family and there’s no better feeling than bringing someone’s dream to reality. Hope you and your family have a great weekend.
Thanks so much! Yeah, the installer Steve has more work than he can get done.
What a craftsman 😇 Beautiful cabinets. Beautiful home🙏🏻Beautiful family 😇So Blessed 🙏🏻😇
I really enjoy watching your videos every Sunday. You are a great teacher.
Looks good! That bench is great and would be my favorite part of the breezeway remodel. Beats leaning up against the wall like I do to put my shoes on. Nice!
That was fun! I was a cabinet maker and shop teacher for most of my professional career and I enjoyed watching the cabinet shop and the transformation in your home. Always loved doing projects and still do.nice video Neil!
I'm proud of you brother. You are realizing your limitations finally. Tough pill to swallow, but as we age, sometime we need to admit that something is beyond you. Damn good thing you have Kara to keep your butt in line and keep you focused. You have done so well by so many, that it's time to just relax a bit and let someone else help. I know personally, watching your posts and what you do has given me a wonderful gift. You have a way of restoring my faith in humanity. I'm done massaging your ego now, any more and I may have some involuntary bodily function. As always, love home.
That is a Wonderful Episode, the editing, inclusion of fabrication milestones, Install and finishing were top shelf. This is a Happy Wife, Happy Life with an abundance of Smiles to go around. The Gentleman you used are true Craftsman with a confident skill set that brought your vision to life in a most amazing way. Now your whole Family is going to have a Smile on Their Faces in a comfortable efficient space as they get ready to meet the challenges of the day. That should facilitate starting the day on the collective right foot. I love the volume of efficient storage space that seems to be a natural fit for your Family. 😀👍👍👍
Beautiful job well done! What a difference. Love the final pic with your family. Memories made and way to keep momma happy!👌💚
Thanks
As a picky 73 year old artist/designer, I would have chosen antique bronze handles to tone in with the lovely wooden pegs on the opposite side....but a really good improvement and you can always paint the handles!!!!!!..fantastic, wish I had you here for stuff.
Every piece of this project was fantastic. Thank you for showing us the details on RUclips.
Absolutely incredible. Love it!
That’s a hard thing for DIY. Knowing your limits and knowing your resources limits.
Awesome transformation.
I more than "Liked it!"! I LOVED IT!
The project turned out great! Your DIY electrical work was probably my favorite part, when my wife and I moved into our 1985 home it seemed that none of the placement of the switches suited our needs for remodel, I ended up doing LOTS of what you did with the switches. The fact your dad was an electrician shows, you installed the cover screws "the right way!" 👍🏻
Turned out great! I really like the maple bench with all that figure in it.
Happy wife, happy life. Loved your smile Neil when you wife sat on the bench for the first time. Well done. Can't show my wife this video as my wife would want the same thing.
Awesome 🎉😊
Loved this video, woodworking was one of my first passions and favorite class in highschool. They look great, and i swear organization and minimalism cultivate a blissful mind.
Nice, Good job
Momma happy… everyone is happy. 💐. Great job. 👍
I love the new cabinets and bench. The bench top is gorgeous!
The project looks awesome, the colour 👌 The explanation of the cabinet maker ⭐️ Neil's story-telling manner in which he captivates his viewers is amazing ...But the grace-filled relationship between Neil and his wife is priceless ✨️
The "lockers" look great!!! Love the colors, too!!! I'm a bit OCD when it comes to organizing... labeling, containers, bins, baskets... it just makes things look "clean"... even the way I hang my clothes... style, color, etc... 😂😂😂 You're a great hubby to make your wife's visions a reality!!!
You sure are setting the bar for your girls to find someone worthy.
Excellent looking upgrade.
Great result. You, your wife and kids, your extended family and your community as a whole is a great reminder that the USA is full of good, honest, creative, hard working people like yourselves and not just about guns, politics and chaos as we’re presented with over here in Europe.
I’m grateful to hear you say that because it is more like this than the other. The news is often times just full of the fringe minority of what can be found in America. In my opinion…
Code speak of course 😅. I think we all agree
Very impressive story telling and editing. Thanks for sharing this enjoyable "good husband" project.
It comes down to - happy wife, happy life. :) Nice little project.
Very nicely done project, and a great video. Always enjoy your video as part of my Sunday. Enjoy the fruits of your labour, and have a great day.
They look great!
Them turned out really good !! 👍
Neil… that came out fantastic. You changed the look, feel and utility into a comfortably useful space.
Thanks for the working tour of the cabinet shop. I’ve built a fair share of cabinets and cases with face frames. That tip about leaving the edges slightly proud is one that I learned the hard way.
You mentioned that it insures that they will fit… but, there are a couple of other things it can do. On an exposed end… It is difficult to get a perfectly flush match of the edge of the face with the face of the side. At best, you’ll still see the joint line. At worst there will be raised or sunken bows that show. You can choose to sand the face frame edge flat. That works a lot better than sanding the face of the side panel… and perhaps sanding through a ply. Or, you can just leave it proud and add a shadow line that hides any microscopic alignment issues.
For my kitchen cabinets… I didn’t have time to build them. So, hired a pro. He too built them old school. Although he built them slightly differently, they came out equal in quality and craftsmanship.
I have a suggestion… for what it is worth. Wood handles occasional slight changes in humidity, fairly well. But, rapid and frequent changes create movement, separation and finish degradation.
Your modification to the floor vent was clever. But, I wonder if it will subject the bottom of the cabinet to those frequent shifts in humidity and temperature? Would it make sense to cover the hidden portion of the grate with aluminum foil tape?
I like the layout, materials and colors selected… but love the workmanship, fit and finish!
Well done!
I am envious of anyone that has the patience and skill to be a cabinet builder. I’ve seen some of your work in your shop and it’s always superb, so I really appreciate your feedback.
I too am wondering about the impact to the cabinet from the floor vent. We talked about it and wasn’t 100% sure what to do but I like your suggestion to block the back side off. That might be the perfect/easiest way to deal with it actually.
Thanks for the great suggestion and thanks as always for the insightful comments and feedback Dave! I’m lucky to have you on my side!
@@digdrivediy well, that’s basically what that tape was designed to do… LOL
Al tape.. probably good idea. Thinking if the cool air hitting underside of cabinet causing condensation. But then, I'm in south Tex where it's mega humid most months. Carry on...
Wowizer!!
Beautiful craftsmanship!!
👍👍
She be smiling i see !!
Have a great day and week ahead. 😊
Great job looking great very nice love your videos thank you
Looks good. You are like a surgeon with that Milwaukee Hackzall, no need for touch up even. Was a little surprised to see a Philadelphia Eagles on a Indiana born and raised guy though. Ha Ha.
Very nice, excellent choice on the redo. Great having a place for each of you to put your stuff. As always, a great video.
Man I thought you were gonna ask if someone could help you with that project! I don’t farm or drive tractors or operate heavy machinery, but I am a cabinetmaker & installer & I was gonna jump all over that. It turned out fantastic & the wife looked very happy! Atta boy!
As a custom furniture maker myself I still do a lot of the work the old school way. But the CNC is great especially when time is a factor plus learning the 3d modeling software has been awesome at giving clients a preview and making big changes with very little effort on my part. Using both methods has been very helpful for my business
Great video storytelling and narration. You have a gift for it!
Great idea!! Looks great. Take care.
Thanks Jeff
As always a true inspiration to DIY:ers, workers, husbands and fathers. Thanks a lot Neil and family.
Fantastic!
What could be better - watching pros complete a great job, great finishing and just nice to see. Happy Sunday all ❤
When I rebuilt my mud room, I found some nice round led motion activated lights. Don't have to worry about if they were left on. Don't have to leave them on while we are out. I also put one in the entrance from the garage, hallway, and stairway to the basement .
Wife loves them.
It turned out GREAT. I'm sure it will be well used!
Looks great!!!!
Awesome project. Thanks for taking us along.

I was looking at his shop all jealous, he has it all clean and so much room for activities. 😆 I am always tripping over stuff.
Looks awesome guys Love it
Happy wife, happy life - well done!
Love it wish we had room for something like that
Beautiful! That’s the kind of DIY I’d do.
You're videos are a pleasure to watch. I work midnight's and watching your videos are a great way to get ready for bed! Cabinets look great!
Glad you enjoy them!
Beautiful family
Word of advice, put something on the garage door hinge or on the floor to keep that door handle from hitting those beautiful cabinet doors
Knowing when to sub out a job and when something will look better and will allow you to do other things is key! You only have so much time in a day and you also have enough on your plate to keep you busy until you are 103yrs old 😅 I say good call. Loving the use of space as well.
Wow thats awesome and great idea it looks clean.
Such a beautiful family.
Happy wife!
Looks incredible. Nice job
Steller Video Neil.
Just a note with the old Work box's. Do not break off the tab. They are there to hold the wire. They keep the Wire from being pulled out of the Box.
Mike M.
Our new houses mud room is unfinished thanks for the ideas
Man those cabinets are beautiful and they fit the space so well. Now I gotta get my butt in gear and get mine built.
Neil...... I love this shot at 24:05...... I've seen all of your videos and this is the first time I can think of where all three of the women in your life had their faces in frame like this so you could see the resemblance🙂
Nice and you set the plate screws vertical so no dust collection. One of my pet peeves! Old builder here!
Even the slots on your screws are in perfect order! Good work.
Really great job 🎉
It looks great guys. We want to do something very similar in our mudroom....One day maybe. Funny about the dog and the bell. We've taught our dogs to ring a bell to go outside and they do the exact same thing....Buggers! Dave
That looks really nice
Nice!!!
Your videos make my weekend,
The trim around the top! Icing on the cake!
Great video.
