Pastor Asscherick - 55:45+ ... you knocked it out of the park! Biblical "Faith" (pistis) is not believing despite a lack of evidence, but rather faith is trust, based on evidence, that results in action.

Totally blessed by this. Grappling with oncology and epistemology as a psychology student, determined to advance an argument for truth in a post modern secular environment. The reason I have such confidence there is truth is because the God revealed Himself to me 10 years ago. David, you have described the incorrigible Truth of my conversion, which came as an answer to a prayer I prayed as a child for God to reveal Himself to me. Want to know God? Ask for Him.

You will find much to boost your position by looking at
Existential Philosophy and Phenomenology, both of which were roots of PostModernism, ironically.
Soren Kierkegaard is key. A Christian existentialist.
Add to that some Edmund Husserl, some Heidegger, even though he was a proclaimed Athiest, who foolishly flirted with Nazism. Add some Derrida with his Deconstruction and then the French Theological Turn in philosophy.
Discovering God is a deeply personal and intimate experience. He can be known in no other way.
He is the only Mediator of us to Himself.
Try it ,you might like it.
      Peace.

I love David, but one thing missing in the SDA church is the understanding and experience of the SUPERNATURAL. This is how I KNOW Jesus is Lord. God is living and still performs miracles. The Devil is doing work as well and Jesus is right there to save us cause only in his name can we be saved. Today, right now, even as we speak. Ask God. He will prove himself to you. Seek and ye shall find.

      Good comment.
Though it claims otherwise, the S.D.A. church denies the supernatural gifts in the modern age, with the exception of Ellen G. White.
They claim that she is an example of the scriptural prophecy of sons and daughters dreaming dreams and
having visions, but they do not acknowledge any other
prophet since the 17 hundreds, but Mrs White.
That is not consistent with scripture which indicated multiple people with the Spirit of Prophecy.
They love to get Futurist on you and claim well, when the Latter Rain comes , then that will be fulfilled.
Contrary to that, I am aware of many with the prophetic gift in modern times.
Carl G. Jung, Philip K. Dick, Emanuel Swedenborg, Marcus Garvey, among quite a few others.
Mrs White was a false prophet who just carried patterns from the Biblical past to the post 1844 age, and predicted the continuation of certain trends already happening in her time, like the Roman Catholic church's attempts to recapture the Protestants and to capture the globe as well as it's giving prominence to it's Sunday sacredness.

@@thenowchurch6419 Carl Jung was an obvious false prophet that gave no glory to God. The Bible mentions false prophets like this will mislead many with their trickery.

You may not have read much of her writings, which are many. She explains how our faith must be based on only one thing - the Word of God. She adds how shortly before the coming of Christ in the clouds, Satan and his followers will use miracles to convince the masses that their theology is correct. (Similar to the magicians in Pharaoh's court did) Then, as now, miracles are not the sign of Truth. Truth is found in God's Word. And let us ensure we use the most accurate translation, then check the original language if in doubt of a meaning. The Young's Concordance is a good study help with the KJV. Be sure to read the letter the translators wrote to King James that accompanied their work...its very clear.
Also, yes, God daily works miracles for His people, its amazing. But His miracles are not for show, nor to glorify any man. God bless you as you study deeper into this subject. Remember Revelation 13:13. Miracles will be very deceptive.

I have not listened to all the videos on this subject yet, but....You simply cannot try to tangibly, quantify etc, etc the existence of almighty God.
God is a spirit and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and Truth (know God by our spirit). Man is tripartite and we connect with almighty God via our spirit man. As someone else said, we have been blessed with the Holy Spirit, ask God for a Damascus road experience if your faith is swaying.... But we just cannot try and philosophy God's existence; he just is.... Glory to God.
    Overall interesting debate.

      Kingdom Perspectives.
We can philosophize the existence of God, but only to a point.
There is a point beyond which , as you say, only the spirit of the Logos within one can recognize Christ as the Universal Logos.
The S.D.A. church is not in touch with that level of spirit because it's doctrine is overly focused on external signs and conformity, as opposed to an internal communion with the Christ, the Lord God Almighty.
      Blessings.

I have listened to two hours of this series now and have no plan to watch further. David has spent two hours philosophizing and repeating and going in circles. We need "it is written", not fancy words and humanistic theories. Jesus spoke so humbly and so simply and so straightforward that even a child could follow. David, why didn't you humbly bow before God when you prayed…like you used to?

rossybossi I don't think I will spend my time digging through such a heap of stubble to find a thread of truth. No offense, but I find much richer, heart changing truth elsewhere. Think I'll stick with that.

Danna, my thoughts exactly. I watched #1 yesterday, and decided to watch the second one, however, if they're all the same, I'll be checking out of this series.I fail to see what he's trying to accomplish.
By way of comparison, Stephen Bohr has a wonderful 10-part new series titled, "The Bible or Tradition," which goes along with some of our current Sabbath School lessons. He does his usual masterful job of digging deep into his topic with Bible and EGW quotes.
The SOP does say some of our brightest stars will go out--I sure hope Pr. David is one of them. I have an Arise e-mail address for him somewhere in my files, so if they're all similar to the first I'll write him

I find it sad that you have pidgeon-holed David (and the truth) into such a closed box, Danna and Steve. What David has done here is something that ALL Christians should do occasionally (that is, to take a step back and re-focus, and realign all of the "truths" that we believe correctly on the one Truth that is paramount). And just because you may learn a certain way does not mean everyone does. He repeats himself (occasionally) to make points clear. But having had to go through this process myself a few years ago, and still having to re-focus occasionally, overall I found these messages be very clear, very interesting, and very much needed.
We do NOT need an "it is written" all the time. While it certainly has it's place, we get that too much. Too many people are looking for a step-by-step answer to how to be a Christian and follow Christ, instead of looking for a relationship with Him. It is the Spirit's job to guide us into all truth. I fear you are following in the rich young ruler's steps, asking "what must I DO to be saved," and missing out on what David is trying to show us... God must be central to everything else that we believe and do. If He is not, then everything we do is in vain, because what we DO will never save us.
And about his prayer style...if that is your hot button, then perhaps you should watch the rest of the series... And maybe focus on the message instead of the outward appearances (how he prays, etc.). David was instrumental in my coming back to the church. And by saying that I don't mean to imply that he is better than anyone else. But I've listened to him extensively, and I fail to see any substance in your arguments.

So many things to take issue with here, but post this quote from a short article in the Telegraph about the UK. Similar articles can be found for the US.
**Intelligent People Less Likely to Believe in God**
Dr David Hardman, principal lecturer in learning development at London Metropolitan University, said: "It is very difficult to conduct true experiments that would explicate a causal relationship between IQ and religious belief. Nonetheless, there is evidence from other domains that higher levels of intelligence are associated with a greater ability - or perhaps willingness - to question and overturn strongly felt institutions."

Neither your info or David's are cause or effect, though. A rather simple and plausible theory, using david asscherick for an example, is that those who wholeheartedly believe in God (say, Jesus Christ n His second coming) are less likely to pursue higher education when they don't believe that furthers God's kingdom or plan for their particular lives. Asscherick forwent medical school; I assure you countless others abandoned degrees that would've served self, but not God. So, correlations do not causality make ;)

Dee Knight I think that is a very interesting point. God called Moses out of Pharaoh's courts to be apart of the Israel's deliverance. Moses could've been a Pharaoh if God didn't call him.
