SUGGESTION: Do a breakdown for the Non-Entrepreneurial people of how to go about being an independent CFI,...incorporating, insurance, coordinating planes, advertising, etc. Seems like a lot of new "hats" to wear, but maybe worth it for pay & more busy accumulating hours than a flight school CFI job would be. Congratulations on your success in the regionals; it’s truly inspiring. I’m currently in a Part 61 program, and my school has a limited fleet of about four aircraft. My instructor has around 12 to 15 students, so I’m able to schedule, at best, three to four flights a week. However, this often varies due to weather conditions here in South Florida. My question is, how did you manage to get so much flight time? Did you have an instructor with extensive availability, or did you work with multiple instructors? Thanks for the great content, and I appreciate any feedback you can offer.
Thanks for the information. I still have time to do part time on my job and spend at least four days out of the week to do accelerated flight training. So I’m definitely going to try to do this as soon as possible. I just have to brush up on my Algebra 1 since my flight school said that Algebra 1 is an important part of flying.
I’m rooting for your success :) Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment. It all helps my channel to grow and help more guys/gals like us!! Didn’t see a link for your process but will look for it today. I am a student pilot with around 80 hours, my plan was to get it on my own before going to school like ATC. I’m very close, I just need to review/study and schedule my test.
This was an interesting video to watch, given where I am with my flight training, and how long it took me to just get my private pilots license. I definitely understand your journey, given that you are in your 50s and you want to go to the Airlines. So, time is of the essence. I will say that some folks who may be thinking of, flying for pleasure, maybe a little bit more time in the process is part of the goal. I will say that I would like to know this instrument rating out, but being 57, and knowing that I am not going to the Airlines, kind of puts me in a different frame of mind in terms of the need for speed. I definitely agree with you brother that there are retention things that go on when you’re training more consistently. Thanks for the video, definitely food for thought for sure.
Ill soon start attending either Epic Flight Academy or Pheonix East Aviation. Just trying to make final decision over next few days. Thanks for the video!
91 days for all your ratings is fucking wild. I can definitely see how its possible to achieve that on the flying/hours side of things but what I can't wrap my mind around is how you do that much reading (while actually comprehending it) in that much time. JUST for private pilot cover to cover reading the PHAK, AFH, AIM AWH, all those ACs, the chart legend, required parts of the FAR, and whatever else you need in just 13 days (which would be the max allocated time for this schedule per cert) is like.... literally how is that much reading + comprehension/note taking possible? I did the math that's something like 180-200 pages a day of DENSE material that you need to be able to recall on a moments notice in an emergency, it's not some fiction stuff you can burn through, and that doesn't even include any of the ACs or the PPL ACS. And doing that while also flying every day, commuting, needing to cook, clean, sleep, keep up with life in general. Plus I'm assuming you also were grinding those multiple choice knowledge test questions as well which isn't particularly hard but it is still like 1000 questions so it takes time to go through all that. My brain could never. I mean I have over 100 pages of notes on just a couple chapters of the PHAK and that took me WEEKS (granted I do work 50 hrs a week at my day job). When you say you did all this in 90 days did you do all that reading ahead of time and then did mostly the flying + classes during that time? Does the amount of reading get substantially less compared to private? (thats all I have experience with so idk maybe there aren't as many books for CFI or ME and what not). Huge congrats btw, and respect!
Andrew…. yes I did study for all of the written exams prior to the 91 day window of Flight School. Regardless, you are right… During the 91 days, it was absolute insanity in terms of how much work it was. With that said, when you take as many check rides, as I did so close together, you don’t really have any time to forget all the knowledge that transfers from certification to certification. For example, once you have Weather memorized, you don’t really need to study it again. Same for airspace. Same for systems. There is a ton of overlap. Thankfully, with the support of my wife, I did not have to worry about any household activities. other than putting the food she made for me into my mouth, lol.
Can I ask what's the name of ur flight school Mr.trent? Also how much is the cost for all the license u got so far and is there any advantages I'm gonna have as a Canadian citizen??
The cost to attain ratings varies with how fast or slow you learn. As for being Canadian, I don’t have information about that because I did my training in the USA. The school that I attended is headed into their worst weather of the year….plus they have a large waitlist. So…to help my viewers get trained faster, I’ve just formed a partnership with a terrific school in Arizona. You can watch a video about it here flywithtrent.com/flight-training-in-mesa/
I agree with everything! I am in a traditional school, my first term is over this week. I will forget plenty over the next 30 days :( if iweren'tt dependent on the gi bill, i would be your student next month.
It's still incredibly impressive, but I've been following you for a while and I didn't realize that you already had a pilot's license from Canada. Regardless of lack of currency, that really does mean your experience doesn't really apply to actual new pilots. But I do agree completely with the idea of flying every day. It's much more efficient and will definitely save money.

Couple questions, am tryna knock off all my certifications (test) & then just hit the cockpit non-stop, I was wondering what books are recommended or taught in the schools for the certifications starting off with Private? Great video and information! I'm in the Raleigh, NC area and I'm an OTR truck driver. I could swing two weeks off at a time for full time training. How would I find a list of CFI/CFII pilots in the area that are willing to train?
If I were to do it all over again, I would have invested in a share with a flying club then find my own private instructor. 250 total time X .07 = 175 Tach hours but you still log250 hobbs hours in your log book. $120 X 175= +/- $21,000 in airplane rental cost. Still need the flight instructor. And even think about a glider rating to further lower the cost note it states under commercial rating regulations you need a total of 250 hours of which 100 hours needs to be in powered aircraft, that means you can use a glider to build your total flying time. Plus I would also consider ASES prior to 250 hour mark.
Love your channel and agree with what you’re saying. Saying that so you know I’m not a troll when I ask, do you slow down your videos? I normally watch all RUclips videos at 1.5 and I speed yours up to 2.0. Curious if you’re slowing them down to hit a certain video length. At normal speed it legitimately sounds slow motion.
My family owns a Barron. My goal is to complete my PPL, obtain my IFR and get my multi engine so I can be rated in the baron. My only goal is to fly privately. Is it a good strategy to go straight through to the multi engine from the beginning?
Thank you for this video Trent. I was curious if during this 90 day accelerated plan, we’re you working or did you save enough money to just go straight through?
could you recommend me some schools in Florida where i could do this fast of training ? also for some one that is going to graduate high school would you recommend that path ?
I don’t have any recommendations for a school in Florida. Sorry. BTW, I’ve got a free email course on how to become a professional pilot as fast as possible. The course covers things like how to study to the written exams, how to pick a school, how much to expect to spend, how to get financing, etc….If you’d like to gain access, just go to FlyWithTrent.com and become an email subscriber.
Hey Trent, love your videos and your attitude towards everyone being able to be a pilot. I am about to finish my bachelors in a different field but I want to switch to aviation. I’ve worked nights to pay my way through college, do you think it’s possible to do the same with these accelerated programs? I have a decent management job at an airport. I think it would take a couple years, but it would save me a loan. Thanks, and Merry Christmas

Hey Trent had a question. I'm currently working on my private but already logged about 80 hours flight time since June. Working towards Commercial, (part 141) school. I feel like I'm behind on my training but when I mention this to my instructor he claims it usually takes 2 years to get all my ratings. Based on my research it should only take about 1 year on average. I am flying 4 to 5 times per week. Am I missing something? Any suggestions on what I should do to speed things up. Just feel like I'm spinning in circles. Keep up the great work! Love your videos!
Your instructor is smoking crack. There is no way it should take you two years. The school I’m partnered with has a 10 month program. Many schools do. Get a new instructor.
Hi Ronald….it depends on a variety of factors. The most important of which is how much you’ll need to invest in maintenance. If you have an engine failure, your TCO will skyrocket and tenting would have been much less expensive. Same for resale. If the economy softens, when you need to resell the plane and need to take a big loss, then renting, would’ve also been cheaper.
Hi Trent Did you do all in 91 days flying, oral ,written exams and study. I am from South Africa and would like to do the same. We have 8 subjects that you have to pass with 80% to get the theory under the belt. Is that similar to what you did
I am looking at all kinds of different ideas. What I’d like to do is become a CFI/CFII and teach. I have no dreams of flying in the majors. I am thinking of buying a Cherokee Six and teach out of my local area (Venice Fl) and then take the pay from teaching and pay for my helicopter as a hobby/fun in an R44. That’s the dream. Thoughts on this?
As a CFI you’d be hard pressed to earn more than about $5-6k per month (at least based upon my experience) and that isn’t nearly enough money to do what you have described. The exception is if you owned your own plane. Then, assuming the plane was acquired for under $300k, you could expect to double your income….unless of course the plane breaks down a lot.
Trent I am wanting so badly to make flying my career. I have my private pilot license. I’ve watched a lot of your videos and one thing that I keep missing that you keep mentioning is the school that you attended to fast track your ratings I understand you have some type of school that you started in Idaho respectfully, can you please share the school or the name of the school that you attended. I have called many places and am struggling to know where to go. I am trying to get everything done in 5 months. I would appreciate your feedback.
Thanks for watching! The school that I attended is headed into their worst weather of the year….plus they have a large waitlist. So…to help my viewers get trained faster, I’ve just formed a partnership with a terrific school in Arizona. You can watch a video about it here flywithtrent.com/flight-training-in-mesa/
Hey Trent, question for you buddy. In order to become a Commercial Pilot etc., one has to take a medical test correct? If someone has beaten Cancer can they become a pilot or would this have any bearing on the medical issue first?
The aviation medical standards (FAA and TC) for all catagories are readily available on-line. Having read through these extensively (I myself had issues re. colour deficiency & diabetes, however, have overcome these), I do not think you would have any issues, even if you wish to obtain a Class I medical. Good luck!
Hey Trent, do you know of any flight schools that offer accelerated learning from zero to commercial pilot? I'm familiar with ATP since they dominate the industry, but I'd like to know about alternative schools that are just as good or close, where I can save some money compared to ATP's high price tag. Hi everyone, hoping to get some advice or tips. I’m 28 and looking to start training as soon as possible. I can’t afford to stop working and will have to get a loan in order to finish as soon as possible. Realistically, how long am I looking at to get my cfi and start instructing?
That is a really hard question for anyone to answer, because there are so many variables. For example, aircraft availability, instructor availability, weather, your skills and retention, etc..
HI Trent, Thanks for ecouraging video discribing the benefits of accelarated program. I am working full time in and planning to change my career to fullfill my childhood dream to become PIlot.I am planning to take accelaraed program for 14 days private Pilot licence in coming Feb, now I am preparing for FAA written test, the goal is to clear written test by Dec end or Jan 1 st week. So i will be having pretty much 1 month time befor I start my Accelared program. Would you mind suggest me what I can do in the month of January so that my Accelaraed program that satrts in Feb will become bit smoother. I appreciate your advise. Thanks Brother.
Hi @ramafico. I just read your comment. Was wondering how did it go with the flight school offering ppl in 14 days? I'm planning to do the same but keep reading about a general caution of beinf scammed by super-fast ppl programs. Thanks in advance
@@talalalgosaibi2794 honestly speaking for the person with zero flying experience,14 days ppl is myth. I couldn’t get through 14 days, you accomplish something but not ppl certificate, after income back I resumed training again at part 61 as I am working full time, still working on ppl. Hope this information will be helpful
I had, and after that first one I thought flying is not for me, but after the next lesson it gone. Sometimes during unusual attitude during private when your had down, with eye closed you will fill some sickness, but as soon you done with a maneuvers you will be good.
The cost depends on several factors which are hard to control. The first factor is how many ratings are you going for? The second factor is how quickly are you able to become proficient? In my private pilot video I have detailed what it typically costs for a private pilot license, which for most people is around $15-$18,000.
Mooney M20J owner here. How would you train me through CFII using my own aircraft? Currently have 320 hours PPL. Almost finished instrument before covid hit.
Jkilpatrick5214, you would be trained no different than if you were renting. Your luxury is owning a plane your schedule is yours. Your limitations would be your learning rate, weather, mechanicals, and instructor availability.
Thanks for watching! The school that I attended does not want me sharing their name on my social media because every time I do their phone explodes. They have no interest in training private pilots. The only thing that they really want to do is provide accelerated training for CFI and multi engine ratings. So…to help my viewers find a school that does want to train private pilots, I’ve just formed a partnership with a terrific school in Arizona. You can watch a video about it here flywithtrent.com/flight-training-in-mesa/
QUESTION: My biggest perplextion: Cheapest & Fastest way to build hours after Commercial cert. Seems to be any paid flying job (But the # of pilots with low-time & competition for those low-time jobs is high. Is the best route to instruct at a busy school ($0 cost flight hours) as much as possible until a paid charter job requiring higher-time comes along??
Thanks for watching! The school that I attended is headed into their worst weather of the year….plus they have a large waitlist. Great advice Trent! At the risk of veering off course from aviation...as a Canadian wanting to fly in the US starting from zero hours, any tips about immigration/right to work, training (TC Vs. FAA licenses) etc. that you can share? Thanks!
I totally agree with your philosophy and you have proved it works. How many hours did you log during the 91 days you used to earn your 7 ratings? You must be logging 100 hours per month instructing your students. I am sure you are continuing to learn and hone your flying skills while you are instructing.
My 2 cents: if you’re going to go accelerated 1. Try a bigger school. I was a part timer flying 2x a week, decided to pay up front for a full-time accelerated program and quit my job, 2 CFIs then immediately moved in their career and so I ended up flying….2x per week. The remaining CFI ended up with 25+ students to juggle so I went back to my job for the remainder of program since I wasn’t flying anymore than if I was a full time student. This wouldn’t be an issue at a bigger school. 2. In-house DPEs. Depending on your state and time of year, you may have to wait 3-6 months for a checkride opening. For my Commercial, I had to schedule out 5 months! If I had to do it over, I would move to a location where I could go full time at a bigger school with in-house DPEs and get it all done in 7-9 months vs. the 2.5 years it took me at my flight school.
QUESTION: Do you know of a school that has full-time DPE's? (Or, a school that gets preferential DPE scheduling to a certain school's students?)--To my knowledge, I thought DPE's are independent so as to not appear to have a conflict of interest.
I normally watch all RUclips videos at 1.5 and I speed yours up to 2.0. Curious if you’re slowing them down to hit a certain video length. At normal speed it legitimately sounds slow motion.
No I don’t. I’m a slow talker when I’m filming because I’m either reading my teleprompter or just thinking and talking at the same time 🤣
My family owns a Barron. My goal is to complete my PPL, obtain my IFR and get my multi engine so I can be rated in the baron. My only goal is to fly privately. Is it a good strategy to go straight through to the multi engine from the beginning?
I can’t think of a reason why not….other than the cost.
Can someone tell me if I already have an iPad with cellular whether foreflight will work if you don't have the device added to your cell phone plan?
Yes it will. It only needs WIFI to a ADS-B device like a sentry while flying and then regular WIFI in the ground.
Didnt you offer a discounted rate to use your Flowster website in one of these videos? If so, would you please post the link?
I’ll have an even better special in a few days. Link coming then.
Thank you for this video Trent. I was curious if during this 90 day accelerated plan, we’re you working or did you save enough money to just go straight through?
I had the cash on hand.
could you recommend me some schools in Florida where i could do this fast of training ? also for some one that is going to graduate high school would you recommend that path ?
I don’t have any recommendations for a school in Florida. Sorry.
BTW, I’ve got a free email course on how to become a professional pilot as fast as possible. The course covers things like how to study to the written exams, how to pick a school, how much to expect to spend, how to get financing, etc….If you’d like to gain access, just go to FlyWithTrent.com and become an email subscriber.
Trent, do we have to have the private pilot already before training with you?
No. I can train you from zero.
Yes….i say go for it!

Do you think owning your own aircraft is worthwhile? I’m near my PPL check ride and have been struggling with plane availability at my flight school.
@@trent_dyrsmid thanks!
🙌
Hi Trent Did you do all in 91 days flying, oral ,written exams and study. I am from South Africa and would like to do the same. We have 8 subjects that you have to pass with 80% to get the theory under the belt. Is that similar to what you did
All but the written. I did 4 of those in the 3 weeks prior. ruclips.net/video/q7dU1Nd7lLM/видео.htmlsi=Vbx0XNBvBiYdEWC6
@@trent_dyrsmid I’m coming 53. Semi retired and looking N for a way to supplement and not just have flying eat up the golden goose.
👍
I don’t know. That’d be a question for an AME.
The aviation medical standards (FAA and TC) for all catagories are readily available on-line. Having read through these extensively (I myself had issues re. colour deficiency & diabetes, however, have overcome these), I do not think you would have any issues, even if you wish to obtain a Class I medical.
Good luck!
Thx for the reply!

Hey Trent, did you ever experience motion sickness when you started flying? If so, how did you deal with it?
No I didn’t.
I had, and after that first one I thought flying is not for me, but after the next lesson it gone. Sometimes during unusual attitude during private when your had down, with eye closed you will fill some sickness, but as soon you done with a maneuvers you will be good.
🙌
But how much will it cost!
I believe he could, if he has time in his schedule. His website has different rates based on whether or not its your own plane.
Correct. Please DM me for more info.
Jkilpatrick5214, you would be trained no different than if you were renting. Your luxury is owning a plane your schedule is yours. Your limitations would be your learning rate, weather, mechanicals, and instructor availability.
✈️
Trent, what school did you get your 9 ratings at?
Thanks for watching! The school that I attended does not want me sharing their name on my social media because every time I do their phone explodes. They have no interest in training private pilots. The only thing that they really want to do is provide accelerated training for CFI and multi engine ratings. So…to help my viewers find a school that does want to train private pilots, I’ve just formed a partnership with a terrific school in Arizona. You can watch a video about it here flywithtrent.com/flight-training-in-mesa/
In your opinion, if a student is flying one to two times a week does the school have moral authority to consider that an accelerated program?
No. Definitely not.
Yes.
What school did you attend?

Great advice Trent! At the risk of veering off course from aviation...as a Canadian wanting to fly in the US starting from zero hours, any tips about immigration/right to work, training (TC Vs. FAA licenses) etc. that you can share? Thanks!
I don’t have any first-hand experience doing that so unfortunately I don’t have any tips for you. I’m sure that Google does.
I totally agree with your philosophy and you have proved it works. How many hours did you log during the 91 days you used to earn your 7 ratings? You must be logging 100 hours per month instructing your students. I am sure you are continuing to learn and hone your flying skills while you are instructing.
Hi George, I logged 180 hours over the 90 days and since becoming a CFI a typical week for me is about 25 hours of instruction.
This school will have their own DPE in Jan. flywithtrent.com/flight-training-in-mesa/
Flight training and availability to getting your ratings is now more expensive

So first….make tons of money, next…..take time off work to get my pilot license and fly as much as possible.
Sure. Or maybe just have a positive attitude?
