Thanks for sharing and congrats to all the winners.
This was a fantastic review of the contest entries, Ryan! I really and truly didn't envy you the job of going through these and trying to decide on the top 3. Thanks so much again for holding the contest, and for the great feedback! Nice job all around. Congrats to everyone who submitted entries. They were all fantastic and I loved seeing them!
Thanks Greg and congrats on making it to the video overview it says a lot just to make the top 15!
Thanks for putting this contest together. Certainly appreciate the constructive review and feedback. Also, appreciate everyone who contributed an image to make this a success. Now it’s time to work on next year’s image!
That’s the spirit great Eagle nebula! We gotta get you the 151 for next year!
I did look at the 151, but I think the 130 is a better option, especially with the price difference. $1000 more for 57mm difference between them, but one can wish@@darkrangersinc
I think it's amazing to see how far color cameras have come. They represent at least half the contestants and the winning image. Astrocams have come a long way.
Yeah, I was really surprised to see almost every single camera was either a 533 or 2600 and then a good percentage of those were the color version. The amount of DSLR and Mirrorless entries was pretty low.
I didn’t base any of my choices on equipment at all. So it had no influence on my choices. It just worked out that way, so I don’t know if it’s because more people are using Astrocams or if they do in fact, produce a better result.
I did put out a video a while back comparing the two and I thought the mirrorless held up pretty good, but I’m using a pretty high-end Nikon and after stacking, the data is definitely not as clean. You have to do more to get it to a place where it’s looking good.
@@darkrangersinc I've been using the Player One Uranus-C, similar to the ZWO 585MC. The sensor is remarkable but it's not widely used yet. Color cameras are coming into their own. A couple members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada recently wrote a paper in which they compared mono and color outcomes of dedicated astrocameras and measures indicate color cameras perform equally well with monos now in typical seeing conditions. You'd have to go far above sea level to some place with exceptional seeing to get superior results from a mono camera anymore. My own studies into it have come up with the same outcomes, so I am not surprised to see so many images made with color cameras in your images.
Wow, thank you for the honourabe effort prize! I’d definitely be very happy for a one-on-one to see what I could have done better. Congratulations to the winner(s)! James Glucksman.
Great images, and some herculean efforts there. Congrats to everyone!
Thanks for the shout out and feedback. I am working on making sure not to break down my Hyperstar rig if I want to go multiple nights of imaging. This should help with the cables making a cleaner diffraction spike. Congratulations to all the winners and everyone that submitted their images.
Congrats on making it to the video. It was a tough task, but you were the only galaxy to make it on the list so you should feel really good about that! Thank you for entering the contest and great job!
Very good initiative, Ryan! Nice to see so many amazing entries! Well done!
Appreciate that and thank you for giving props to the people who entered!
Amazing review Brian! Totally agree with your remarks, thanks for your help with this channel !
Glad to hear and thanks!
Great images, way over the top quality guys, amazing. This is what I aspire to achieve, excellent work. 🙏
That was great, thank you! It sure beats an "unboxing" video :).
We don’t do those here and if I do it’s a 5 sec Timelapse no one cares about a box 😂
Congratulations guys, my Carina's last 8th, the guys at the top, very well deserved!! I was amazed by the 7th that shark nebula was freaking cool. I totally agreed with a helping the other Carina guys who made a lot of effort. Thanks Ryan this contest was huge!!!!
Congrats to the winners, all the contestants had really awesome images. Great review and feedback. Great channel content. Would have been nice to see you close out with a photo montage of all submitters that didn't make the cut.
Not a bad idea but if I was going to go through all that effort to put it together I would put it towards the beginning on a video this long a RUclips channel is lucky it 25% are still watching to the end unfortunately
Nah man, I get it. I know how it is wit youtube views, if figured thats why you didn't. Love the channel, keep up the great work.@@darkrangersinc
Those were some awesome images and inspire me to make sure I use more integration time. Congratulations to everyone that participated !
Awesome that’s why I wanted to do the video!
Fantastic contest and images!
I really have a journey ahead of me to compete with this quality but it will be fun trying
Cheers Si
You’re making big strides forward it’s just a matter of time!
@@darkrangersinc Thank you for the encouragement Ryan 🙏🏻
Great review and really targeted and useful feedback. I can list them all up as a checklist of things to watch for in finalizing my own images. All the images are fantastic and give me realistic goals to shoot for. I'll definitely participate next time around, I was just a little too busy these past few weeks, but the bar will be raised that much higher next time I suspect. Now for that California Nebula.... :)
Great video and congratulations to the winners.Looking forward to the next contest. I’ve found my processing techniques to significantly improve since I turned in my entry. I love that little askar fma180 and 2600mc combo.just started a project with mine.
Yeah, he technically used the TPO version but they got bought out by Agena I would wager the FMA is as good or better it’s fairly new it came out this year if you got the pro version
Some great connstructive criticism, what you are doing for the community is wonderful mate keep it up.
I was hopeful it would be taken well and it was. I figured offering my image up as Canon fodder would help lol
Very cool.
Some very talented people watching!
Thank you for your work. But next time you should remove the email addresses in the screenshots. Showing them is a violation of privacy.
I guess 🤷🏻♂️ I haven’t gotten any complaints from any of the folks it actually entered. Obviously, you know you’re sending in work that’s going be shown publicly I announced that the top 10 would be featured in the first video. I don’t think there’s really any nefarious action somebody could take with just an email but point taken.
