This movie was based more in realism that any other Ninja movie I've ever seen. I would pay for a decent copy. Think of this as a Christopher Nolan style Batman film, vs Tim Burton
By the standards of the day, this was an excellent TV movie, with good acting by Mr. Beck. It would've made a fine TV series. I surprised that ABC didn't pick it up as a series, as there certainly was a big Ninja craze back in the 1980s.
I guess they wanted more over-the-top unrealism. Don't get me wrong, I love over-the-top but The Last Ninja was refreshing. I don't know if I am the only one, but doesn't DieHard borrow a lot from this movie? Terrorists who take over a high rise and one man who takes them out one by one. Someone who has to really work and struggle to stay alive as opposed to the 80s action stars.
Thank you. The shuriken (ninja throwing star) was there in this video collage. The whole sequence was shown prior to the star being thrown is well worth watching.
I think Swan had to become a ninja to avenge Fox, his comrade the cop threw into the path of the onrushing subway train. I almost pity the cop who did it and the Riffs who made the wrongful accusation that led to Fox's death when Swan and the Warriors mete out punishment. Swan doesn't impress me as a man who would let it go undealt with for long any more than the other Warriors would if they broke into jail to rescue Ajax whom most thought was a tool.
The show was fantastic..Michael beck was brilliant..and of course mako was marvellous..Alas the ninja were romanticized, during the Japanese shogunate mercenaries were paid to do assassinations..
I saw this when it first aired on ABC July 8, 1983. It started my interest in Ninjutsu. I eventually was able to get a DVD copy of the show a few years ago.
If only this had been picked for a TV series there's no doubt that would have definitely worked, such a shame they didn't. The state of TV today is nothing but forgetful trash to no end, I wish to God to return to better times like the 80s, absolutely no imagination in today's standards!
@@JayKhwaja No it’s just the whole “TV is trash today” argument is nonsense. TV has always had mostly forgettable rubbish (just think…you’d forgotten that Small Wonder was on for four years, hadn’t you?). It’s just that we’re inclined to ONLY remember the good stuff. Also there was good stuff on in 2014. Capaldi’s first season as The Doctor. The fourth season of My Little Pony. Maybe even season 2 of Littlest Pet Shop. Arrow. The Flash.

This one has always been my fav. Better than all the theatrical movies (except maybe white phantom) even the tv series The Master wasn't as good as this.
This is a good story. But the actor is not a real Ninja. Sho Kosugi, on the other hand, is a real Ninja. That's why The Master TV series is better than this. It's not theatrical, it's authentic! And l know what l am talking about because l have been studying Ninjutsu for over 11 years now! Revenge of the Ninja and Pray for Death (Sho Kosugi) are also authentic Ninja movies. He is a real Ninja. Most Ninja movies are just some taikwondo practitioners dressed up in black Ninja suits but their techniques are not real Ninja techniques (called Taijutsu). It's normally taikwondo or even Kung Fu. But Sho Kosugi is the real deal! However, this movie is ok. At least the person who wrote the story seems to know a little bit about Ninjutsu!
Thank, Thank You, Thank you. I remember watching this on tv way, way back. I thought it was a pilot for a proposed series? I still remember him disguising himself as a janitor to look at the blue prints to get into the building and him growing up under the tutelage of Mako. I only got to see it once around 30 years ago. I would love to see the entire thing again. Then following year they put out The Karate Kid I wonder why they never made a tv pilot or series out of that? Thanks for posting.
Seems like everything was "ninja" back in the '80's. I remember flipping through the channels and seeing an episode of "Falcon Crest"...which had a ninja skulking about! (A ninja, in "Falcon Crest?!") Oh well. "The Last Ninja" was uploaded (in parts), complete, a few months ago on You Tube, but now, I can't find it. Just small clips and teasers. It probably was removed (copyright?)
The best thing of this TV show was Richard Lynch´s portrayal as the evil Norden. Richard Lynch was always a great screen villain and an extraordinary character actor. Ignacio

oh dahorra as one word on Yahooooooooo for the email will have the DVD of the Last Ninja. I bought other copies and they were very rough copies off of VHS but he found an an amazing copy. He has a lot of shows (most are shows/films that went under the radar but for us we love): Voygers, Ohara (Pat Morita series), Tales of the Gold Monkey, Street Hawk and the like.

I think a strong case could be made that this is one of the most underrated movies of all time. Truly a classic.
The late great Mako also had that gem of a voice...

Thanks for the upload. I have been looking for this movie for 20 years now.
Me too. ..
He's a 'Warrior',so naturally he's a ninja.

Yeah I liked the low-key vibe of it. It didn't go for razzmatazz but more believable.

@@christophermuller5700Die Hard definitely stole some of this. I thought I was the only one that saw that. Thumbs up.
Or as the Germans know it, The Hard.
Didn't he say that Xanadu deadbolted the doors to him?
I bought this movie from a guy on the internet. It's as good today as the day I saw it in the 80's. I so wish this had become a series!
who?
I'm also listed under Kyujutsu Shinja Ryu

This was but one of the movies that molded my views on life and self ability. Thank you for sharing and bringing back fond memories of self discovery
Michael Beck was brilliant as the ninja. Apparently, he did almost all his own stunts in this film.
Swan from The Warriors? That Michael Beck?
@@boredstudent Yes, it was that Michael Beck. The Warriors is a great film!
The same Michael Beck that was in Xanadu? Yeah, easy to see why it never took off.
After becoming warlord and free ajax from prison, Swan left the Warriors then become a ninja, Cleon must be proud

Swan, from a gangster and a leader of the best gang in New York name the Warriors became a ninja

Michael Beck made a way better American Ninja than Michael Dudikoff, I say!
Dudikoff didn't have uncle Iroh in his life.
Michael Beck was a classically-trained actor so it's unfair to compare Michael Dudikoff with him.
