Read this book about 50 years ago, television has never done it justice. The narrator is excellent, bringing the book to life, almost as good as Gerald Durrell himself. Thank you
The reader gives Spiros a Scottish accent, for unknown reasons.Nevertheless, it's fun to discover this, having fallen in love with The Durrells in Corfu when it came on television a few years ago. I was crushed when it ended, not the least because I was in love with the actor who played Spiros. I so loved the series that for a time I was convinced I should move to Corfu. I am surprised to find that the animal-loving Gerry was such a gifted writer. Delightful.
So glad I came across this book. I loved it when I read it in my teens. I loved all of Gerald Durrells books. I never read any of his brothers writings. I was and still am animal crazy. I went to his zoo in Jersey, in 1971, and was very impressed.
I just finished reading 'Bitter Lemons of Cyprus' by Lawrence (Larry in this book) Durrell. The only one of his books I've read, but very interesting and with a similar humour and writing style.
I’ll have to go to the library & “Birds, Beasts etc” & read it. I have the DVD “My Family etc” and wanted to hear the reading of it but it stopped mid-sentence. So disappointed😩
