In USA cemeteries are closed at a certain time because you have people desecrate the dead and destroy the Graves those people are heartless and you will be arrested if caught the cemetery is clean in May Pen if I was living out there I would love to see it may their soul rest in peace I give you thumbs up good job ❤️❤️👍👍👍👍👍👍
Came across the channel an hour ago. Lovely raw footage. Just some additional information about the May Pen Cemetery. It actually was named after the Chinese family called May. They had given the land up for the cemetery to be erected there. So just gave this info, for those who might be wondering if it had any relations to the May Pen, in Clarendon.
Thieves took a mic made of cement from Massive Dread’s grave in Maypen Cemetery a couple times. Prince Buster and Skatalite’s Lloyd Brevett graves are by the Spanish Town Road, easy access. The monument to the fallen soldiers of World War II is located near the entrance so you can see it safely.
Continue the superb work. We appreciate it. Just be careful. Carry a protective glove and a tool to clear graves or walking path. Be safe in all you do.
We can not depent on Public works or gov to clean up the cemeteries in JA. We have to do it out self and archive our historical past. They gave the land, luckily, they did not take it back. Gov have no loyalties to anyone/things. We are the only one who love to go to funerals but, don’t preserve and respect our ancestors memories. Go to Bottom road in Mobay in the smack of the tourist center; between 2 major and popular hotels; there is a Jewish cemetery this space is sacred, respected and maintained to preserved their ancestor’s memories and their records that, they will never forget. MayPen cemetery, is the only place that, we can associate with, to educate us, to our truth, and of our loved ones and of our past.
WOW!!! It seems that man owned a lumber company on Port Royal Street, that was set on fire by a disgruntled employee, that fire almost destroyed the southern half of Kingston. 6000 people were made homeless and lots of people seems to had died, if it's the same person. You can research yourself. My gosh😮, what an otta disgrace, you telling me people can't even die in peace 😢😢😢boy!!! I found this channel tonight and it's very interesting, I have learnt some stuff I didn't know especially about maypen cemetery, fascinating. It's something I love to do investigate tombstones, one can learn so much.

I’ve been binge watching your videos. While I am not from Jamaica, I have learned so much lately about the country and your videos have lead me to do some more research on the music, people and places there. Keep up the good work, and do be careful out there 🙂! Such a shame that May Pen cemetery has gotten into such a state of disrepair. Hopefully one day work can be done to clean it up and that the records can be organized for families who might be interested in looking up records of their relatives and might want to visit the graves of family members. Anyway, I look forward to your next video. Edit: Wow, “disrepair” is an understatement! That poor man was left uncovered to the elements. That is horrible!

Nigel, you are super brave. I guided a Japanese university researcher to May Pen Cemetery Last year, I couldn't get that far. No way. Maximum respect Nigel.
In the state of Louisiana a lot of grave sites are buried tombs...with that being said my cousin and I would visit our family cemetery and would see some with death date and no born date which was very fascinating information being that the death dates were in the 1800's. Some would have pictures on them that withstood the weather throughout the years so much history.
Wow I skipped the video and it stopped just in time at Alvaranga. That person is my distant relative, because all Alvarangas are related. Three brothers came to Jamaica from Portugal and went their separate ways and just reproduced. One of the more famous Alvarangas was Philmore Alvaranga, my grandmother's nephew. Queen Elizabeth II sent for him from Jamaica to meet with her, and then sent him to Ethiopia, where he spent one year as guest of Haile Selassie in the National Palace. (Look for Philmore Alavaranga here on RUclips and you'll see the story}
That's wonderful work and keeping us well informed. They should have the same prisoner's next door go over and did the bushings out so that they can see more of the same. Sitting and eating taxpayers money for nothing.
I totally agree with you. The cemetery badly needs some work. Seems like the CEO of the cemetery needs to have the Ja Gov't repair & maintain the grounds of all public cemeterys.
You are one brave man. I am from Trench Town and grew up there, frequent Tivoli Gardens. My uncle was buried at that cemetary in the 1970s, however base on what you said I will not find him. I enjoyed your video as I am fascinated with the dead. You would never catch me in that cemetary however, you could not pay me to go in there. That is a criminal hide out spot and all those open graves. It is too spookie.
Thanks for showing the May Pen cemetery my father was buried there when I was a child l don't know where exactly I attended the funeral but did not know what year he was born his name was John Ivory it was around January 1971 that's all I can remember. Him and my mother were not living together at the time.
Honestly I was worried about his safety for other reasons. He is one brave person because that place is historically notorious for things other than it being the infamous May Pen Cemetery.

My Great Grandmother is buried there. When we went to locate her grave we couldn’t find it as someone had stole the masonry (cross & Bible) from on top of it. Great video….it’s a shame such an iconic piece of Jamaica history is neglected like this. Many times I’ve driven past and seen people “living” in there. Government should do something or implement community service to help maintain it.
I’m not entirely sure but most countries have a level of care for grounds you would think apply to the most important grounds such as local parks and cemeteries to keep them looking respectable for visitation. Jamaica needs to create Jobs on the island to help the situation, people are in need of work and I can’t understand why the government over looks simple issues like this I’m absolutely appalled by watching this it’s truly shocking, I had no idea that there is no up keep I also have family laid at rest in may pen cemetery I’d hate to think…. God almighty! 🙏🏾 Keep doing your work my brother I’m learning so much from your uploads 🙏🏾
Boy dis ya man ya good as gold , him know weh fe find the real legend dem ,, maypen was the first place I went to a funeral,, a cousin a mine followed friends go pon robbery in a 1976 and that’s where he was buried,as a little boy I still remember, maypen is a very lonely 😞 place boy, anyway enjoy your journey back to st Elizabeth me father born place , thanks 🙏🏾 fe the video, big up 👌🇯🇲🇯🇲🇬🇧
Is the willoww/wist tree still over collie smith's grave? Went their as a boy in search of claims cherry. Felt privilege as a person when I got to understand the very significant site. Heard he hit a 6 in a match from boys town in a match and the ball landed there. Heard the bowler was roy Gilchrist. One of the at the fastest at the time. Fascinating and nostalgic work. Kudos!!
Buried my dad there October 1987 the following year was hurricane Gilbert so i didntt get to put the head stone on by the time things had cleared up and got back to normal my dad grave disappeared. So the head stone is now in my back yard in Jamaica.
Hello My Friend good evening My grandfather is buried there. I’ve been trying to find his record for so many years with no luck. He died before I was born. I always try to find something jus to hold on to I never met him yet I miss him If you have any information that you can share on way that I can find his grave or at least his death certificate. He died at the Kingston Public Hospital would appreciate 100% one love Keep on doing the good work my friend
maybe be some relatives would recognise him and sometimes the relatives do t put there head stones thank you very much you have done a excellent job i hope you protect your self even when they are dead you dont know who is following you
God bless you 🙏 always for doing such great job prior to touring the cemeterys and to see the community of cemetery conditions many blessings 🌹🌹🌹🙏 to you 💖 and your bravery God is love and he's with you much love in Jesus name 🌹🙏!!!!!
Great job you working real hard for the 💰 that cemetery was so beautiful a long time ago, and its a disgrace to see it now 😢 i used to like reading the obituaries in the Sunday Gleaner and fascinated with the folks born in the 1800s and when they died and imagined how they lived back then 🤔🤔 keep up the great work 👏👏👏
My brother good job the most important thing about a cemetary is biography into the lives of past individuals. So glad u are doing one for jamaica just like the americans. Ivan o rigen was one of intrest is story led to the movie the harder they come jamaicas first gunman.
Thankyou for covering that man up. Sometimes its subsidence that makes the graves drop down like that .its happend where my mothers buried.in the older part of the cemetery.
i love these videos mr Jamaica chapter very interesting i was watching if i know anyone may be some of those long time burial could be most of Jamaican relatives maybe it all those hurricane storm the carvings get weaker
Who is responsible for cleaning up the cemetery?? Wow! Sad! My dad grandmother and other families resting at Maypen. Would love to see their graves but .........??? 😭😭😭😭🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
You Are Very Courageous!!! The Loved Ones Of These Dead Persons Can Go In And Weed Up The Grass And Try And Tidy Up The Areas Around The Caskets To Help Them To Better Rest In Peace.
ALL public cemeteries in Jamaica need that action. The Municipality for each parish has fallen down on the job. Only Meadowrest and Dovecot and some of the church cemeteries look decent
Seeing these neglected graves of ppl who were once moverse and shakers show that with time we are ALL FORGOTTEN😢😢

Jamaica needs to create Jobs on the island to help the situation, people are in need of work and I can’t understand why the government over looks simple issues like this
I’m absolutely appalled by watching this it’s truly shocking, I had no idea that there is no up keep I also have family laid at rest in may pen cemetery I’d hate to think…. God almighty! 🙏🏾 Keep doing your work my brother I’m learning so much from your uploads 🙏🏾

That is exactly what came to my mind. Some real serious “Clappings” took place in that very area and on the nearby sSpanish Town Rd.
You are funny lol 😂😂
You brave eeh man
I know right 😟
This is so sad how that corpse was left exposed to the element.
I would really like to know what inspired you to do this video😮
The people in charge need to clean and maintain the cemetery.
Kudos!!
My grandfather is there 🙏🏼R.I.P. ❤papa 🤲
Buried my dad there October 1987 the following year was hurricane Gilbert so i didntt get to put the head stone on by the time things had cleared up and got back to normal my dad grave disappeared. So the head stone is now in my back yard in Jamaica.

Good morning my brother wonderful work you're doing I think the government should clean up the cemetery
Hello My Friend good evening My grandfather is buried there. I’ve been trying to find his record for so many years with no luck. He died before I was born. I always try to find something jus to hold on to I never met him yet I miss him If you have any information that you can share on way that I can find his grave or at least his death certificate. He died at the Kingston Public Hospital would appreciate 100% one love
Keep on doing the good work my friend
Contact KSAC, they record the graves.
I enjoyed this episode on May Pen Cemetery. KSAC should do a better job in taking care of the cemetery.
@@Junjo11 thank you so much
Visit the RGD and give them the info you have of your grand father maybe they can give you a copy of his death certificate.
Thank you 🙏

When I was a kid hearing of this cemetery I thought it was actually in Clarendon.
Me too
Historically it was, but then was moved to Spanish Town Road. You can look it up in the Jamaica Archives
Well done, i enjoyed watching this
Do one on the Calvary cemetery as well please
Bless up love this video
Looking forward to the tour
Looks to me like you'll have to start walking with a broom bro😊
This is soo pleasing to watch
Is there any one u could report that vandalism of the graves to.
Nuf respect my brother continue the good work
Thankyou for covering that man up. Sometimes its subsidence that makes the graves drop down like that .its happend where my mothers buried.in the older part of the cemetery.
Remember, the Schloss were a military people. Up to late 1900 were still active in Jamaica.
i love these videos mr Jamaica chapter very interesting i was watching if i know anyone may be some of those long time burial could be most of Jamaican relatives maybe it all those hurricane storm the carvings get weaker
Jah know I long time mi nuh inside a the cemetery lot of memories fi real

Who is responsible for cleaning up the cemetery?? Wow! Sad! My dad grandmother and other families resting at Maypen. Would love to see their graves but .........??? 😭😭😭😭🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Just finding your content man...very interesting..subscribed
You Are Very Courageous!!! The Loved Ones Of These Dead Persons Can Go In And Weed Up The Grass And Try And Tidy Up The Areas Around The Caskets To Help Them To Better Rest In Peace.
Nice exposure i have never seen there before
Some work was done on that cemetery but its obvious it needs the army wìth some inmates and some volunteers even the churches and schools
ALL public cemeteries in Jamaica need that action. The Municipality for each parish has fallen down on the job. Only Meadowrest and Dovecot and some of the church cemeteries look decent
Blessing general 🙌
Finally. Thank You for doing it
Loved this episode very informative and fascinating. First time viewer
