Hey Ken! I love the Aristocrat razors. I have my grandfather's old 47 aristocrat in near mint condition, and a 66 aristocrat I picked up at, believe it or not, at a local car show for $ 15 . Both shave very well and are complete.

Shaving with it nowadays is more of a charity event, where everyone wants to donate me all their little round Band Aids, because that thing is a scalper (I would compare it to shaving one-handed with a samauri sword, while standing on one leg during an earthquake). Yeah, the first time I used it I was 16, and cut myself like a combat wound... 😄 But I still use it.
Nice shave Ken. Vintage shaves are special, razor, soaps or splashes. Combined they are very special and always respected. As the first of 2019, you certainly used great products. i love the gold razors..... it amazes me how we went from a sporty style of razor to just a stick..... the classics is just the best when thought had be used and not just laid out on a computer and items were mad to last a lifetime and even after that persons lifetime their still going
Nice razor! I picked up a 1948 made in the UK aristocrat with the bulldog/barber pole handle and rhodium plating for less than 10 dollars. The plating is missing a bit on the razor head, but it shaves great

Gillette also still makes the blades for the Asian market as well. (The Gillette Super Thin) and plastic DE's that cost only 2 dollar but shave pretty well. And the blades can be replaced.
I have two Aristocrats, a 1947 and a 1950. They are my favorite Gillette razors of all time. Based upon my experience, I find them to be more aggressive than the Super Speeds. I like that. Thanks for sharing the video, Ken. Cheers!

Man that aristocrat sure is a beauty.. great interview with the sharpoligist... On that badger brush I got my 1st badger brush for Christmas.. I've always been a boar brush fan boy.. but I dont know if I'll buy anymore boars... I reeeealy like the feel and way the badger works... about 5 shaves with it and it still stinks to high hell like a wet dog though. HERE'S TO A GREAT 2019.💈👍🏻
When I got my Aristocrat today mine came with the Gillette super thin blades and it had one sample of a Gillette blue blade!!! Never tried them , or any vintage blade for that matter! Your case is way better than mine but I only paid $25.00

Good evening Ken! Longtime, no comment...though I been watching on and off. The Gillette Aristocrat made from 1946 to 1951(USA) are great shaving razors. I find them smooth and mild with a shave longevity of 18 hours...give or take depending on blade used. YMMV. They are attractive razors, no doubt. I had Razor Emporium revamp mine and it is stunning. Great Shave, a 60 year old razor oh wouw, I will certainly get respect for this thing, considering everything he has experienced in so many years, that is the reason why I love vintagestuff and old cars in general too. Brut Ocean, bought a year ago, the name holds what it promises, I can really recommend you, it is really a very nice fresh aromatic scent! Really strange how big the price differences are. (I just used a current value date converter now) Brut Ocean here bij Bol.com for € 14.50,- ( 16,50 US Dollar) and sometimes we get it here in the Netherlands at a discount store for only € 7,00 ( 8,0058 US Dollar)

I was of course disappointed, it gave me as much irritation as other cartridge razors but without the efficiency!
Cool video. Are you going to use any of those Super Blue blades? I recently found some. The package looks a little different so they must be a different year. I've tried one and it was pretty good.

I read on Badger and Blade how everyone wants a Karve, a Timeless, etc. I keep thinking "have ever thought of an Aristocrat?". You can't buy a razor that good anymore! Also, I got some Brut Oceans and Brut Musk in the US from a seller on sears.com, of all places. Oceans is nice, but Musk is an acquired taste...and I never acquired it! It smells like burnt rubber. Also, the Euro Brut Original is a big disappointment in my mind. It is very floral and weak. If you're thinking of getting it, save your money and maybe try something different like Brut Alaska. I think it's discontinued.

I wish that Gillette would simply stop producing plastic 'disposable' rubbish, admit they were wrong and start again. While the world's population is becoming more and more concerned with the pollution that plastic creates, wouldn't it be fantastic if Proctor & Gamble (Gillette) addressed the issue of billions of plastic razors ending up in landfill sites and did something proactive about it? They could make DE shaving cool again for the present and next generation. Fantastic vid as always, Ken. Please keep up the good work, mate.
My other hobby is shooting.unfortunately I have a lot more of the razors that I watch in shaving videos than guns that I watch in the shooting videos .
@@kensurfs those people need a history lesson.the Japanese never invaded because"a gun behind every blade of grass" or something to that effect.i think if kids were educated about guns there would be less fear.the Russians had marksmanship training in their schools.my son could shoot a 1911 at 10 years old.my daughter knows what a gun can do and won't touch one without my permission and guidance...my 15 year old . son "owns" a 1911 and a 22 rile.the 8yr old daughter has a 22 pistol & rifle. I wish that Gillette would simply stop producing plastic 'disposable' rubbish, admit they were wrong and start again. While the world's population is becoming more and more concerned with the pollution that plastic creates, wouldn't it be fantastic if Proctor & Gamble (Gillette) addressed the issue of billions of plastic razors ending up in landfill sites and did something proactive about it? They could make DE shaving cool again for the present and next generation. Fantastic vid as always, Ken. Please keep up the good work, mate.

@@kensurfs those people need a history lesson.the Japanese never invaded because"a gun behind every blade of grass" or something to that effect.i think if kids were educated about guns there would be less fear.the Russians had marksmanship training in their schools.my son could shoot a 1911 at 10 years old.my daughter knows what a gun can do and won't touch one without my permission and guidance...my 15 year old . son "owns" a 1911 and a 22 rile.the 8yr old daughter has a 22 pistol & rifle. I enjoy your videos...thank you.
