  • Comedian Fabrizio Copano shares the downsides of being famous in a country you don’t live in, growing up in Chile faced with the aftermath of a dictatorship, and having priests live at your high school. Gianmarco and Russell put their geography skills to the test and air their very American grievances about Canada.

    More about Gianmarco:
Gianmarco Soresi is a stand-up comedian, actor, and a little too much for some people. He’s told jokes on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Comedy Central, Netflix’s Bonding, Don’t Tell, The Real Housewives of New York for some reason, and he was a JFL New Face in 2022. He’s acted in Billy Crystal’s Here Today, Hustlers, The Last OG, and in his theater days shared the stage with some people who’ve gone on to become huge real estate agents. You can see him post the kind of crowd work clips that are arguably destroying the art form of stand-up comedy everywhere @gianmarcosoresi and he obviously has a podcast called The Downside with Gianmarco Soresi.🎤

Gianmarco, you're really good at this. Even though it's a "comedy podcast," you're so capable and engaged with your guests regardless of the subject. The guests feel free to tell their stories. They're great at finding and bringing out the humor in their situations, but I never feel like they're doing a bit.
As a language geek, I especially love it when guests from other countries and cultures discuss jokes that translate and those that don't, and how language, culture and assumed knowledge overlap.
Also y'all nailed it with Shapiro. Talks fast, talk over the other, and act like he's right.
    Also, Hopper.

Thanks for the awesome episode! As a Mexican raised in the U.S., I loved hearing a different Hispanic perspective. It was fascinating to hear similarities. Can't wait to see more foreign guests in the future!

The clasifications of the 'worlds' come from the Cold War. First World is America and all of its allies, Second World is former Soviet states, and Third is literally everyone left. Great episode!

and, like everything else developed by the US, it is entirely based on whether Democracy (existing only within the definition espoused by the US) exists, and if its economy is capitalist. Literally couldn't be more of a prejudiced definition. In fact, Chile was amazing and was fuckin THRIVING, until we (the US) went in and assassinated the democratically elected president Allende because he was excelling as a socialist president (no he did NOT commit suicide). Allende was actually the first example of a successful socialist president in history. We then installed the dictator Pinochet as the new Chilean "president" who was buddy-buddy with the Nazis. So, yeah...calling Chile "developing" is problematic as fuck for several reasons. They are the most stable country in South and Central America.
Super bummed that Fabrizio couldn't speak to any of that.

Just explained this to my coworkers the other day, lol. I wish more people knew. "Developing" isn't "politically correct" or something - it's just a term that's still relevant, while the first/second/third world classifications stopped applying after the USSR fell!

Here's a totally left field pitch for a foreign guest that no one knows. Andria and Ivan Busic. Founding members of the Brazilian heavy metal band Dr. Sin. Their songs are in English, so I'm pretty sure y'all could communicate. I've commented on vids on their channel and gotten replies from Ivan and he seems like a nice dude. I don't know anything about them outside of them making kickass music. I know this is a fuckin weird suggestion but I'm a weird dude and me brain dumb.
