During the 80s I lived in the UK. I loved this band but never knew anyone else who did. If only the internet had existed back then it would have been easy to interact with other people who did.
Unfortunately it came at the end of Huey's run when people were kind of sick of him... this groovy tune way under-performed... I'd greatly appreciate it if some 80s fans would view my acoustic piano & vocal cover (live, no autotune) of PRAYING FOR TIME on my channel in tribute to the great George Michael. George hasn't gotten his due for all the contributions he made to modern music a vocalist, songwriter and producer. But eventually he will get his due. THANK YOU GEORGE.
Great song that deserved to go much higher than #25 in late 1988, I always felt this song would've done better if it was released sometime around 1984-86.
It s all said ...!! Bravo Huey !! .....All around the world There are people like you and me From the poorest beggar in the street To the richest king and queen Some people take And then they never give You gotta learn to give and take If ya want to learn to live In a small world Now we can Fight one another Like they to on T.V. Or we can Help one another The way it's supposed to be If we all give a little It could really mean a lot It's a small world But it's the only one we've got Small world !
Great song,I'm surprised it wasn't at number 1# at the top of the charts instead of the number 25# it was currently at in 1988 when it was released, but then again-it's the people who decide the ranking of a songs popularity, but that's the people for ya!.John M Guinto
Although it reached the top 20 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, the album did not sell as well as the band's previous albums, Sports and Fore!. However, Lewis himself stated in a Behind the Music interview that the recording process for Small World had the most favorable working conditions.[citation needed]
Not as catchy as Huey Lewis & the News's better known songs but it is still a great song, always felt it deserved to be as successful as their better known hits.
Man, this was a great album, but the public didn't warm up to it. It still had that "sports bar sound." But this time, with Tower of Power and Stan Getz. How much of this was an out of left field LP, versus how much the public just got tired of Huey Lewis!
they ran out of steam after fore. perfect world was a great song. this sadly was their last hit till 91's whipped up" couple days off then it was officially over.
Funny thing is that, they were touring up until Huey lost his hearing in early 2018. How was it 'over' in '91 if they were still touring 30 years later, and they have a new album out (that's doing great)?
I totally agree with you Chris--- you could say they had a good 9 years of hit songs (82-91). And they still brought lots of joy to fans on their tours til Huey's health issues. Great band! Now, the RRHOF needs to induct them! @@christosstamato527
You know how you can look back at a specific song that ended an artist's career? Well this dud did it for Huey. What was he thinking releasing this filler as the 2nd single? Didn't anyone on his team warn him for his own good that it stunk?
Ha - Exactly! I just wrote something similar. Now I understand why they just disappeared after the 80s. What they hell were they thinkin with this preachy crap.
The man stated that they wanted their big hit streak to end After all most of his earlier songs were really pop which isn't what he actually wanted! After all the guy wanted to play music for life, not be a rockstar, big-name artist etc.
Ok - - hearing this for the first time, it's clear why they fell off the charts after Ruling the 80s. Nobody wants to hear this kinda preachy sh*t - - pardon my french. Love the guitar solo though. But it Belongs in a better song. And to name a song "Pt. One" ?? Oh Huey, what were you Thinkin dude ?!!
This one's a brilliantly crafted jazz-rock song. Nothing 'preachy shit' with this. He named it Pt. 1 because there's a 2nd part.. in which the great Stan Getz blows one of the greatest sax solos in history. Ya know who that is?
re. Stan Getz, nah, I've only heard the name but respect his reputation. Those parts of the music are fine, and outstanding. But otherwise Huey got "Preachy" - - (not 'peachy') Preaching is usually what artists resort to, when they've hit a creative wall. And have run out of juice.
@@you2449 'preachy' yeah, not 'peachy' lol. Blame that autocorrecting! This is an outstanding album my man, not as strong as the previous ones, but still good. And it's what Huey set out to do with this album, not make more pop songs any more but experiment with rhythms. Which is what he did, you've got jazz, reggae, even fecking zyndeco! And those Steely Dam progressions in 'SW' too. They also got the mixing right in this album (compared to 'Fore!' that had a few tunes that sounded too 'Huge'. Which wasn't what they wanted them to sound like). 'Small World' was definitely overhated. As for the juice, Huey somehow released 5 more albums even though he was 'out of juice' and are actually very well done. Do I even need to talk about the excellence that was 'Plan B'. Certainly one of the most unappreciated albums of the 21st century thus far. Among Huey Lewis & The News' finest.

I hope this song is considered one of his biggest hits because it is ✊✊
Got a bit of the Steely Dan going on on this one!
This song shows how much talent this band really has. A great fusion of jazz and rock
Unfortunately it came at the end of Huey's run when people were kind of sick of him... this groovy tune way under-performed... This should be the daily anthem of Earth.

Highly under-rated...this is one of my fave song by the band!
Totally agreed Bill!
@@mikeysuzefour true,true!
I think it just threw a lot of people off, it was a much different sound than their previous albums.
It's a law in Anglo world that there's a stupid comment saying "underrated".
🤔
Mine too! Together with "Stuck With You"...
underrated song by Huey and the boys
Saw these guys @Sydney entertainment center that doesn't exist anymore with my ex !! They were brilliant!
Stan Getz had cancer and this was one of his last recordings. He blew the most beautiful solo of all time!!!! not on part one but on part two....
Amen to that .. incredible genious ..RIP SG
@HungryMan TV Dinner I owned both parts and Getz just completely made this song his own creation!
Grant Koeller Aww I didn’t know that! Thanks for sharing.
What a kick ass band and Chris Hays is dam good on guitar.
One of My favorites Rock bands and a great song and performing outstanding!!!
It's often forgotten; although the entire album is named after this song!
I was in middle school when I first heard this song! Still love this song!
Great album!

I knew I was in trouble when I first heard " I want a new drug. " I'm loving Small World.
This band's so great in concert - They did 3 encores for our crowd after their 2 initial sets. (Phoenix, AZ. Mid 90's)
kool track... Stan Getz sax was perfect

One off the best gitaar solo ever 🎼🎸
The band just never sounded the same after Chris left. More and more I realize his sound was their sound. Miss that guitar.
this song went to #25 on the pop charts in 1988!!!
+Daniel Burns I thought it reached #23
+Bob Weiner it did reach #25 in 1988!!!
ok thank you
+Daniel Burns it also hit #19 on the Adult Contemporary chart and #28 on the Mainstream Rock chart in '88.
Still got it in vinile!
That kid on guitar though
One of my favorite songs by them! 🎧🎼
✋👍👊😉😎

great song
Excelente 10!
This song played at 0.75 speed is surprsingly catchy at the guitar solo.
I like this album more than fore, its less 'full on' and more casual.
It is a total shame that this song didn't chart higher and better. It was Stan Getz's Swan Song, believe it or not...

#1190 on my all time countdown
This sounds like a dreamcast game
Pretty epic for the win

Here from the germ psa :D
