LOTS has changed between the 1882 OG and the completely RE-IMAGINED 2010 Fougere Royale created by Rodrigo Flores-Roux. Like they are two completely different fragrances. There was NO attemp to recreate the original very, very vintage scent profile. Think of it this way: If Paul Parquet (the 1882 OG perfumer) were alive and active in 2010, and he wanted to create a fragrance that "if God had actually gave the fern a smell, this would be it" (what Parque actually said about FR 150 years ago), given his modern training, modern ingredients, etc. the 2010 version would be the result. In essence, Rodrigo Flores-Roux became a modern Paul Parquet and recreated Fougere Royale to smell modern. I have a bottle of the 1904 released Guerlain Mouchoir de Monsieur, and I imagine the 1882 Fougere Royale is very similar to that. Definitely significantly different than the 2010 FR. My guess is that the modern still sold fragrance most similar to the OG Fougere Royale might be Chanel Boy. When I first smelled that the first thing that came to mind was Guerlain Mouchoir de Monsieur.
