NoJack / SNIPR takes down truck, trailer and cargo hijacking syndicate
in Pomona Kempton park area. See how many of these trailers are just standing around.
Our actions are in line with the South African Criminal Procedure Act, The PSIRA Act, The National Road Traffic Act and other relevant regulations.
Under certain conditions such as displayed in many videos the responding members may seem to contravene certain laws. However when responding to schedule 1 offences there are grounds of justification provided for such acts, however these members will always take into consideration the safety of those around them.
ARRESTS BY PRIVATE PERSONS
Any private person (not law enforcement official) in South Africa may arrest someone for “any collaborating, enticing to commit a crime” [2|3|5], such as within the list schedule 1 offences as per the Criminal Procedure Act of 1977 , Law 51 [2|3], and Criminal law amendment of 2007, section 3 and 4.
42 Arrest by private person without warrant
(1) Any private person may without warrant arrest any person-
(a) who commits or attempts to commit in his presence or whom he reasonably suspects of having committed an offence referred to in Schedule 1;
(b) whom he reasonably believes to have committed any offence and to be escaping from and to be freshly pursued by a person whom such private person reasonably believes to have authority to arrest that person for that offence;
(c) whom he is by any law authorized to arrest without warrant in respect of any offence specified in that law;
(d) whom he sees engaged in an affray.
(2) Any private person who may without warrant arrest any person under subsection (1) (a) may forthwith pursue that person, and any other private person to whom the purpose of the pursuit has been made known, may join and assist
therein.
(3) The owner, lawful occupier or person in charge of property on or in respect of which any person is found committing any offence, and any person authorized thereto by such owner, occupier or person in charge, may without warrant arrest the person so found.
Manner and effect of arrest
Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977 Arrest - Art 39
(1) An arrest shall be effected with or without a warrant and, unless the person to be arrested submits to custody, by actually touching his body or, if the circumstances so require, by forcibly confining his body.
(2) The person effecting an arrest shall, at the time of effecting the arrest or immediately after effecting the arrest, inform the arrested person of the cause of the arrest or, in the case of an arrest effected by virtue of a warrant, upon demand of the person arrested hand him a copy of the warrant.
(3) The effect of an arrest shall be that the person arrested shall be in lawful custody and that he shall be detained in custody until he is lawfully discharged or released from custody.
SCHEDULE 1 OFFENCES
Treason.
Sedition.
Public violence.
Murder.
Culpable homicide.
Rape or compelled rape as contemplated in sections 3 and 4 of the Criminal Law
Sexual assault, compelled sexual assault or compelled self-sexual assault as contemplated in section 5, 6 or 7 of the Criminal Law
Any sexual offence against a child or a person who is mentally disabled
Trafficking in persons for sexual purposes
Bestiality
Robbery.
Kidnapping.
Childstealing.
Assault, when a dangerous wound is inflicted.
Arson.
Malicious injury to property.
Breaking or entering any premises, with intent to commit an offence.
Theft, whether under the common law or a statutory provision.
Receiving stolen property knowing it to have been stolen.
Fraud.
Forgery or uttering a forged document knowing it to have been forged.
Offences relating to the coinage.
Any offence, except the offence of escaping from lawful custody in circumstances other than the circumstances referred to immediately hereunder, the punishment wherefore may be a period of imprisonment exceeding six months without the option of a fine.
Escaping from lawful custody, where the person concerned is in such custody in respect of any offence referred to in this Schedule or is in such custody in respect of the offence of escaping from lawful custody.
Offences referred to in section 4 (1) and (2) of the Prevention and Combating of Torture of Persons Act, 2013.
Any conspiracy, incitement or attempt to commit any offence referred to in this Schedule.

It's not even resources, it's lack of leadership and commitment. People like NoJack push Cops to try and do better. The amount spent (cars, equipment,etc) is ridiculous.

Everytime I watch this show I cant help but notice how NoJack makes the SAPS look efficient. That on its own is a Herculean achievement.
you know i think you're looking at it the wrong way. I mean we I'm sure we can all see and understand that SAPS and Nojack are security services equally important for safety and security eMzanzi, both need the other for effective policing and security whether they are private or state. all can do more. just promoting positivity and progress!

Man south africa is messed up just found out 3 guys tried breaking into my uncles farm house yesterday at 2Am luckily he was awake so he could contact police.once the police were called they asked my uncle what the emergency was and said dont call again as its not an important matter.Pls can we raise awareness on farm attacks and south africas terrible governing system.
messed up for real. the same type of incident in my aunts township, she is a small wholesaler of fruits and vegetables. her storage facility was broken into and all the station that polices the area had to say was that they do not have vans and personnel available at the time they should try and manage the situation as best they can. it must get better!!

It is worth noting that Gilloy's interchange has been renamed George bizos interchange in honour of the late human rights lawyer activist. It is purportedly the busiest interchange in the southern hemisphere. That section of N12 between George Bizos Interchange and Diepkloof interchange is known as Southern Bypass, it so because the route passes the city of Johannesburg in the southly direction. Together with N1 western bypass and N3 eastern bypass they form what is known as Johannesburg ring road. These three highways circle the city of Johannesburg with N1 running from diepkloof interchange all the way to buccleuh interchange bypassing the city in the westly direction and N3 running from buccleuh interchange all the way to elands interchange bypassing the city in the Easterly direction. Again it is also worth noting that the interchange between N12 and R59 is known as Reading interchange. What is interesting about N1 and N12 is that they both go to western cape via Bloemfontein and Kimberly. After briefly meeting in soweto, they begin to split with N1 becoming the road southwards running to Bloemfontein and N12 becoming the road westward running to Kimberly. This two roads would later on meet again Just before Beaufort West, Western Cape northern most small town.

Who also notices the police guy chucking away takeaway boxes or what ever it was out of the car. And why does he park in front and at the right hand side of the railing? The guy could just go to the right and they will be so far behind him if he does that if it is not for no jack. Plus their time taken getting out of the car and actually casually getting all the info right to catch up to the nojack team is totally unacceptable. I stay in the east Rand and work in PTA, when watching with my colleagues on lunch break I’d be boasting telling them “ ohh they about to turn left and there will be a complex on your right” …. Or tell stories of places they’d be passing.

It’s really not a bad idea to have something like this or a gps. If I did landscaping or excavation work I would have a couple gps units and would leave them in the equipment, trailer and have the notification turned on so when it moves my phone goes off.

For stopping possible hijackers, the SAPS were too casual while approaching the truck. Imagine if the occupants were armed and they opened fire towards the Police.
Agree they should have leaned on the side of caution much more, however i believe the SAPS are trained and ready for such encounters. It's great to see our security services handling this case together, effectively with minimum militancy and aggression.
