  • YOU can create a Time Lapse Milky Way Video with a DSLR! All you need is a DSLR, Tripod, and Intervalometer. I show you all of my equipment and how to setup for a successful Milky Way Time Lapse. After the Equipment review, I show you my results. If you would like to see how I processed the final video, leave a comment below. If there's enough interest, I'll make a second video showing the processing steps. Thanks for watching and commenting. Give a thumbs up too! Doug

    Great video. I use a Samyang version of the Rokinon. It's a great lens but the infinity position is a long way from the symbol - it's not just a case of backing it off a little, the focus ring says 3 ft when it is actually at infinity! Apparently it's a common "feature" of these lenses, and it's another item on my list of "astro setup things i have forgotten".

    • @Myastroimages
      @Myastroimages  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Jenham!
      Apparently these lens have different settings. Mine comes in good just a little of the infinity symbol. I'm glad you figured that out...3ft = infinity! I've never tried that, but, I should. Thanks for watching and commenting your experiences!

    Great Vid!! Very timely for me because I just bought a T1i body with an 8800 shutter count from Goodwill for $25!!

      Now the second intervalometer supplier is giving me a hard time too. I never have these problems with my Sony stuff. I tried to download Magic Lantern but it only works on firmware version 1.1.1 and of course, I have version 1.1.2.
      Canon is a new deal for me but I'll keep at it and let you know.

      @@Myastroimages I live in a small village smaller than town but light pollution is bad Bortle 6 which I hate. Durening this spring summer lockdown due to covid-19 I save up and I bought the skywatcher star adventurer pro pack and the skywatcher 72ed ds pro refractor and the skywatcher evoguide 50ed guidescope for auto guiding and I know the 50ed guidescope can be used for deep sky imaging too. You see I want this portable setup that can go into a backpack and I love camping so I now I can do all my astrophotography in the highlands of Scotland as many places are dark locations like Magnifficent Glencoe and out side Fort William or even isle of Skye as uig I hear is very dark location. I know a great little spot out side Aviemore. In February I bought the Pixel 4 smartphone because of its amazing astrophotography mode but sadly I've not tested it in dark skies in the highlands due to this pandemic. I love doing smartphone astrophotography! Hopefully next year will be better and being Scottish I can travel to the Highlands any time. Next summer hopefully I want to photograph the very famous M16 eagle nebula with my setup and see if I can get any of the famous Hubble space telescope Pillars of creation. It may be very small but maybe it won't show up. Will it show up? Stay safe please!

    • @Myastroimages
      @Myastroimages  3 года назад

      @@bushcraftandastronomer.3775 Sounds like you have a good plan. I have a pixel 4 too. I've done some AP experiments with it . . . The one thing to get the AP mode on the Pixel 4 is it must be on a tripod. You can't hold it by hand as you probably know already. The one thing I couldn't find on the Pixel 4 AP mode are any settings you can adjust. So it takes an exposure at what it think is best. I kind of wish there was more manual controls where you could override the smartphone. It does a good job and it may do very well on a telescope. That's something I haven't tried yet. It would be amazing to see the Pixel 4 results on a telescope. If you get any results with your P4, I'd love to see them!

    If you processed from the RAW files you can set the white balance the same on all the images. The WB in the RAW file is just a tag it doesn’t change the data, just tells the RAW processor what to use. Set the WB to daylight or your custom choice in the editing SW. Also I think your intervalometer might have been set to fire the shutter every second. It doesn’t wait for the camera to finish the previous capture. It just seemed like it was waiting as the camera shutter doesn’t trigger if it’s already making an exposure. Nice result! The 14mm seems a good lens for this.

    • @Myastroimages
      @Myastroimages  6 лет назад

      Astrophotography Tutorials yes you can make the change in camera raw or in Lightroom or which ever app you use for RAW processing. This is one of the “get out of jail free” features of RAW shooting. For Astro it’s a very useful feature.

      Wow! Good memory Eric! That was actually a web page on my site. That page has been removed. Let me see if I can get that page up and going again. I'm sure there are more out there. I think the one thing I've modified since building my original battery box is to remove the CIG adapters and connect directly using Anderson PowerPoles...ruclips.net/video/hmTf-q-ZYQo/видео.html This is much better for devices that don't need a cig adapter. I do have a cig adapter for my laptop. It's better to convert DC to DC for the laptop than going from DC to AC back to DC. I got the battery box at Walmart, installed some fuses and that's about it. I'm sure you can make one. They are very easy.
