  • Here is Justin Stahl playing an impromptu performance of Leon Jessel's 1897 piece, "The Parade of the Wooden Soldiers." This is a favorite of mine and Justin plays it quite well. The organ is a 2005 Allen TQ-5 Theater Organ at Kaufman House. It is a joy to play (although quite daunting for me) and it was voiced very nicely. I hope to upload more of this organ and Justin in the future.

    Very nicely done! What a monster 5 manual console! LOVE the Conn 'pipe speakers'. I had the full set on my Conn 645 deluxe, and then later on an Allen ADC-5000. That was six channels and I never used the those huge Allen speakers. The Conn pipe speakers were perfect and the organ was revoiced through them. What a difference!

    Hey Justin - - out of all of the lovely theater organ performances of this wonderful piece on RUclips - I probably like yours the best. I'd like to know how this was recorded and what loudspeaker system used (if applicable) The tone is gorgeous.

      Glad you enjoyed. I'm actually not Justin. He is my theater organ teacher. I just enjoy recording theater organ performances when I can. This was just a quick cell phone video recorded on my Samsung A53. The organ utilizes quite a few different speakers including many from Allen and quite a few Conn resonator pipe speakers. Hope this helps!

      @karlsonkab51 Год назад +1

      @@TheAmpico - (figured it wasn't J's channel-- thought he might read) I'm amazed by the sound your phone picked up. Those Conn resonators much help tremendously in the spatial sense. I'm old - and never heard a theater organ in person. (I did hear Virgil Fox in Huntington WV with his classical touring organ and many loudspeakers) As I tinker with speakers, I've notions on speakers for analog and digital organs - lol. That is one sweet organ !

      @TheAmpico  Год назад

      @@karlsonkab51 Wow! I'd kill to have heard Virgil play live. Very cool. Yes, those Conn speakers are certainly very nice. There is also at least one subwoofer underneath the floor (the organ is now in what was previously an indoor pool room). It really shakes the place. So much fun to hear and play in person. Glad it seems to sound alright in the video.

    Im wondering if those Conn pipes are in use on the organ and second .... If they have a tonal effect on the organ.... On the Conn organs it helped them to be less sterile.... it actually improved their sound....

    • @TheAmpico

      Hello. Yes, the CONN pipes are connected to the Allen. I'm not exactly sure exactly how much they improve the sound. The organ has many speakers (including a subwoofer underneath the floor). It sounds quite impressive in person.

      I believe it was used extensively in the 1934 film, "Parade of the Wooden Soldiers." This movie is commonly referred to as "Babes in Toyland." I don't think it was ever incorporated in the original production of Victor Herbert's "Babes in Toyland." It's interesting to consider how many marches about toy soldiers came from the same period in time.

      @@TheAmpico very thoughtful question. I have the Laurel and Hardy DVD movie, "March of the Wooden Soldiers,"and on the DVD case there's a bubble in the upper right containing the text , The Original, "Babes in Toyland." Good question. It looks a bit deceiving, but it is actually all electronic. It's an Allen organ that was built in 2005. Behind the organ (and even underneath the floor in the former pool!) are countless sets of Allen speakers, Conn resonator pipe speakers, and more.
