I wish your channel would bring in more subscribers. You definitely deserve it. Thank you for the most interesting visits and stories. Really educational.
Thank you, Ron, for making it to Bellefontaine Cemetery in St. Louis! It is a beautiful and large place! I was raised Catholic in Baden, a small town north of the city! Never have been in Bellefontaine, but, passed by it a lot from childhood! Loved the story of the mad Dr. and, the connection to Washington University School of Medicine! Outstanding School in research and treatments! We are lucky to also have have St. Louis University School of Medicine! I have already donated my body after my death to SLU School of Medicine for students to use for Dissection for classes! Too bad they didn’t have these programs earlier for study! Death was looked on so differently. Wouldn’t have had grave robbers, maybe! Thanks for the places you take us to, and stories that let us get a peek of how life was at that time!!! We have come a long way, but, still have time for more investigating!!!
So awesome you were in my hometown St Louis, I have lived here for 15 years. I’ve always wanted to go to that cemetery. The Lemp family is in a big mausoleum in that cemetery and they owned the lemp mansion, that is haunted
Beautiful cemetery!, thanks for sharing another interesting story ( I'm very glad that the lady that was missing from the campus was alive and had moved on) Have a great week 🙂🦋⛵
What beautiful monuments throughout and the grounds are gorgeous. It is so beautiful there with trees and hills and so green. Thank you for sharing this journey through history and this cemetery.
I told you about this cemetery a few weeks back. My father, my grandmother and two aunts are bury there, I can spend all day in there and Calvary next door, many famous people.
Your deceased relations probably know all the souls in that cemetery. Imagine their conversations of different centuries, exchanges of jokes and songs.
Love what you do thank you but does it get to you some of the graveyards are so emotional it gets to me .I still love watching again thank you for reminding us life can be very short and also very nasty . Wendy UK
Hi I'm new to this site and I'm from England, I find the stories sad but fascinating you really are great in telling the stories. I just love grave yards and history.
As I say you bring history to life..a great historin..luv you much.an be safe an careful..every night.before I go to sleep..I haft to hear one of your stories..an learn alot..thank you so much.
Thanks for all the time, effort, and research you put into these videos, we really appreciate it! This guy sounds like an interesting individual to say the least!
Oh you were in such an epic cemetery, so many famous people buried there, and next door at Calvary as well. They should have had a famous graves map at the office so you could find out who all is there, the Busch's, the Lemps, etc. Beautiful large monuments abound, as you were showing Griesedieck, he was a beer baron in StL. They offer tours here, especially at Halloween time. I was wondering if you would find out about this doctor, I read about him once, his college was located where Ralston Purina is now, near downtown on Chouteau ave. Maybe you can come back & explore this cemetery again, it's worth it. William Clark of Lewis & Clark is there as well !
i lived in richmond ky most of my life (had to move cause of financial reasons) but i would always visit the ephriam mcdowell memorial that is right beside EKU. i always had weird vibes when i passed that area all the time.
Thank you for sharing this interesting history , and thank you for your time and faithful dedication on doing this video under the Rain 🌧️ , you're absolutely a very good Story Teller Mr Ron , God bless you and your family !
Bellefontaine Cemetery. is 314 acres . There is also Calvary Cemetery here, which is 40 acres . Many of my family are there. My father born in 1901, was given the lot by his uncle. There is a concrete step there with the family name Carey . They have all the info at the cemetery. My father's uncle and my fathers brother that died as a baby were buried there, but because of the way they buried people back then there would be nothing left. I have an Aunt, Mom and Dad buried there. And there are 3 more spaces. One for me, my hubby and my son. Some of the famous graves : Tennessee Williams, Dred Scott.
I'm so glad I come across your channel here on RUclips. Really enjoy your videos they're enjoyable watch and on top of that to even educational great job keep up the good work.
I always get creeped out going to cemeteries but have seen some really cool gothic looking ones. So Thank You for your videos, I can enjoy from a distance. 😉
I don't know HOW you find the time to do all these very interesting Videos that you do! And like others have said...you are the BEST Story teller! Thank You!
Fantastic story of the fool born on April fools day...the cemetery is amazing and the story was well told and interesting...great video as always,,,thank you so much..be safe driving home
In Lancashire England we buried people on top of each other some graves were dug very deep to hold more than 12 people because in the 18 hundreds people had large families
Hello from Hannibal! We have a lot of history in this area. Hannibal is a great place to visit. If you ever get to this area don't forget to check out the murals that have been painted on some of the buildings here. Not only are they wonderfully done but they depict the colorfully history of the area. Great video
I tried, I wanted to take everybody into the cave (which is a museum), and the people that own it were rude and blew me off. I’m sure that’s not indicative of most of the people there, but it was very disappointing.
Old Mr. Griesedieck, my grandfather would talk about Griesedieck beer when I was a kid. It wouldn't be nothing over dramatic, but I'd hear the name fly ever once in a while, usually between himself and buddy over beers. After I got older I paid homage to the man and stood right there Infront of that massive stone just where you cut through during your story. Nice to see it again. I enjoyed listening
So I am a Dr. Who fan and this guy resembles some of those characters. However: I think this guy was more like the Mad Hatter. Thank you Ron for telling us these stories.
Hi, Ron! Really enjoy your videos. It's really interesting what doctors had to do in the old days. Since it was against the law to have a cadaver, the medical schools insisted that their students get their own corpses to dissect for their classes. So to get their degrees and to be qualified to be a doctor, these poor guys are out digging up the dead So that they would learn anatomy/medicine. We used to have a medical school in my area in the old days, when grave robbing was such a concern that there's actually a grave ilocated in a little town nearby that has a grave torpedo in it. Which is very interesting!
As shocking as the trade of body stealing was, if it wasn't for the doctors who paid for corpses to study anatomy, medical professionals would still be practicing bloodletting and balancing the humors as healing techniques. What's truly unfortunate is the that law made it virtually impossible to study anatomy directly and created a tragic and awful black market in the beloved dead.
Wow yes from the medical field side he was a jekell & hyde of his era. I am a nurse and he done some very creative surgeries for an era that was still in the beginning stages that made him famous an we still use as a learning tool today!!! Thank You Ron!!! very interesting and informative!!!!!
These are wonderful. I hope one day you will get to the Greenmount Cemetery here in Baltimore I think you'll find it very fascinating tons of History. John Wilkes Booth is buried there unmarked grave near the booth family plot. The person who invented a Ouija board this buried here as well. As a matter of fact the tombstone is in a Ouija board
The symbol on his grave is likely of Asclepius, and ancient Greek doctor who was deified. His mythical daughter, Hygeia, has the snake and cup as the symbol of pharmacy today. The snake (which I think I see in the image as well) was also attributed to Asclepius.
Wow. This is amazing. I’m married to a McDowell from ky. Just a few minutes from Lexington. What an amazing story. I wish I knew for sure that he was a relative. Do you know anything you can share with me? 🌹
I like watching your channel, the stories you find are so interesting and informative and the way you film the cemeteries and headstones, showing the more interesting monuments, it's so mesmerising. Also, I wanted to let you know that the term "burked" is used to describe the way Burke and Hare suffocated their victims - covering the nose and mouth with their hands, leaving none or few visible marks of violence, that's why they got away with it for so long. :) :)
WOW!!! very interesting. The mad doctor was very crazy. When I die I want to donate my body to the school of medicine but when they are studying my body, I want to be cramated.
You should check out the Cemetery in Baltimore where Booth is buried it has alot of huge carved stone and monuments. Its insane and being in the city its so out of place now.
@@FacesoftheForgotten Gonna mention you on my channel if its ok, i live thailand 16 years but am a britt , there aren't any cemeteries here only temple grounds with strange looking monuments that are basically never visited once the ashes are put inside, no burials at all ! unless chinese folks.

Its a pity he wasn't recognised more as a pioneer of modern medicine. Without this man and the Edinburgh trainee doctors experience many people may not have been diagnosed or treated for conditions that became understood throughout modern medicine.
Stunning Cemetery with a beautiful water fountain. The sound is so relaxing
Thank you for sharing your time with us Ron. It's an honor.

I wander if they wasn't marked because he was afraid someone would steal them.
That's exactly what I was thinking.
Oh the irony 😁

Bellefontaine IS epic. So is Cavalry with Dred Scott, Tennessee Williams, Civil War General Sherman and many more!!
The engraved picture on Dr. McDowell's tombstone is probably Hippocrates, just a guess.
I like that
