I found out when I was young after taking professional voice lessons for three years I had a 3 1/2 octave range. I could sing many different ways and styles.

I know! I sing it all the time too. My neighbors probably hate me but it's one of the best songs by one of the best singers in one of the best bands of all time. I get caught up in the music. I know every word.

People often tend to devalue Mariah's other vocal abilities, she's mostly respected for her famous whistle notes but her melisma, incredible agility, technique, breath control and her runs and riffs are also quite impressive.
Great examples:
Anytime You Need a Friend, Without You, Forever, Butterfly, Whenever You Call, Fly Like a Bird, Joyride, Vision of Love, Vanishing, If It's Over, Lead The Way and Bliss.
ABOVE THAT, she is an amazing songwriter and deserves more credit for her songwriting/producing abilities!!

mariah is also the only singer I've heard with that range paired with a full warm tone in chest voice as well. Ariana comes close but her voice is much smaller but she can belt a bit higher.

For Dream On, check out Morgan James with Postmodern Jukebox. She graduated from Julliard as an opera singer. Her breath control is astounding. A totally different style than original, but man, it is magnificent.

Christopher Ducati emotions is the hardest because it's literally impossible to sing if you don't have the range and if you do good luck sing silky seventh octave arppeggios while still being able to belt powerfully in the 5th octave bridge.
I personally feel as though IWALY is hard to sing because of the pure emotion you have to put into a song like that. The power to bring people to tears. Emotions is harder though for the simple fact that you can’t sing it if you can’t access your whistle register, but that’s more of a technicality which is maybe why IWALY was out at number one

If you have the range, you can sing emotions and sound a bit good (not like MC of course), however many people have the range for IWLY but still struggles because of that mixture of Power and strong chesty mid belts. It's like you can sing emotions using falsetto and hit the high notes (probably not the whistles) and sound good. However, imagine singing " i have nothing" in falsetto ahahah that would sound terrible because of those chesty high notes Whitney hit with power. But overall Mariah made all of her songs so hard to the point where only very few can handle her songs. She is so amazing

Not too surprising, that song was everywhere at the time and still relevant today mostly due to Whitney's rendition and the real money goes to writers rather than the perforners.
What The F Blog I think you misunderstood, no one is claiming that Dolly covered the song. Most people over a certain age know that Dolly Parton is the originator and songwriter for the song. But even then you can't deny Whitney's impact with the song.

Dream On is a difficult song if you don't have the right lungs for it and don't build yourself up correctly for that iconic scream.

No one would ever dare to sing Forever, If It's Over, Vanishing, All In Your Mind, Outside to name a few songs of hers live none other than Mariah Carey. That's why the moment she can no longer sing those songs, no one will ever be. It's easier to find someone who can sing IWALY, MHWGO, DWS the same way they performed those songs in their prime eras than any of Mariah's 1990-1999 songs.

Because there's a specific range a person can reach and varies for all people.
But we can reach a bit more range on high notes cause of falsettos. Then again, it varies on the range of the person, but practice can give a little more range.

Sorry WHAT?! Emotions is ten times harder than I Will Always Love You. Emotions companies multiple key changes, seventh octave whistle notes, second octave low notes(depending on what arrangement you sing, C3 lowest in studio) the song is like high belting for the whole song, dozens of E5's F5's and a few G5's. Not only that but the transitions and melismas have to be executed PERFECTLY for the song to work. Emotions is easily the hardest song on this list.
