After 7 years ago I heard this song when I was 10, I cried so hard. 5 years later I couldn’t remember the name I only know bridge in it and 2 years later I finally found it, now I’m crying.
Bridges are built for one purpose, to carry travelers from one side to another. Bridge-keepers have one job, to greet those travelers and decide which ones might be allowed to pass. But what happens when no more travelers come to cross over to the other side? The bridge becomes an idle object left to decay and rot, while it's keeper remains bound to her solitary purpose...one that is now wrought with loneliness. What then becomes of her, as she watches over the bridge people no longer cross?

While sad, and lonely though, I hear what sounds like a soft hope throughout this song. The hope that perhaps every moment spent waiting will pay off, and someone will finally come...
Torn from her past and forced into an ocean of tears, her cries silenced by the waves of painful memories washing away the shores of a forgotten happiness. The air she so desperately fought for was becoming even more difficult to grasp with every attempt to breathe became less painful. Drowning in a sea of despair and broken hopes and dreams, her memories are now warped and mistreated, just like her own very heart. She felt the pain of what a broken wish can do and envied both the living and the dead, forever standing on the bridge of what she longs for and what she simply cannot have. That is the infinite torment of the Green Eyed Monster...
This really does express sadness, loneliness, and even the longing for grief in various ways. "Who.... Who am I entirely? What is this.... this... life? What is this "life" I live in? How am I to define it? How have I even lived like this, in my territory that I myself find scary to explore? All I am is someone given up to this hell down wherever this place I'm living is. I'm only slowly withering away into, not nothingness, but someone insane and crazy who will never be considered normal by anyone, someone who has always hoped to be normal and social, but then just given up to live as someone who you can only define as an insane one. I can't even hope for my old life because I've never even HAD an old life, just this miserably hell I live in now. How do people live such good lives, above ground, in the pure light and blue skies full of everything but the bad that lies down here, in who knows where? It seems someone is now approaching, I may be gone for a while, seeing and probably being killed by this random girl dressed in red, whoever the hell that is, so, goodbye my old self, who I refer to as "Parsee", I hope to see you again sometime, maybe I can contain you again like I used to after I am killed by whatever."

That is why The Bridge People No Longer Cross is one of my favorite Touhou songs.

Because the song wakes up something in them. The song concerns Parsee, a character known to be somewhat "hateful", and this song is like . . . you know, the other side of the character. I know it's fanon content and all. But people are touched by that song because this is true. Some characters Zun shows are only known for one side of their personality. You don't know the rest of the story. This song inspired people to "understand", or at least to feel how Parsee can feel despite her jealousy and all, to know her by seeing her otherly than the "jealousy maniac" role. After all, fanon isn't only about shipping characters together or making fun of them.(A side of the fanon I don't like) The fanon side is also here to help us understand the characters from the serie. Zun introduces his characters, and our "job" is to develop these character the best we can. To understand them, and to make people understand them. People can dislike that. But some of these loves it, and that's why you see these comments. Sorry for the long post. But when listening to the song and seeing your post, that's the first thing that came in my mind and I had to say it.
Oh, I think that every franchise have a wonderful fanbase. Sometimes you get to see the bad side, but we shouldn't forget that there are nice people who put a lot of work by themselves to make the franchise even greater !

I find this to be a pretty good arrangement but... uh... the the tempo and rather melancholic but mostly grim, underhandedly vicious tone of the original is lost here. It doesn't seem that well-suited for a spirit of envy, more melancholy or possibly guilt...

the poetic and philosophical side of touhou fans, they get somewhat touched by this song and the character's story, which sparks inspiration in them to create some amazing speculations about her, or just a lovely poem that focuses on the sad sides of the character.
