I have an old Oracle Alexandria from the 80’s, the motor is at least twice that size and runs on DC current, other then changing the potentiometer for fine turning motor speed this puppy has been rock solid. 😎
I looked at the schematic for the motor controller...the original Sondek LP12 had a very similar controller...and there is +/-380V on the driver transistors when it's plugged in! Nowadays they've eschewed the 2-phase synchronous AC motor for a special DC motor with precious metal brushes they make in house!
Thank you for your insights as I am about to tangle with one of these across the pond in the states. I am hoping it is a simple re-cap but you alerted me to the double sided tracing. Wonderful.
As a tip for you, watch out for microfactures on parts laid down by flow solder. I have even discovered this problem with the sockets for ribbon connectors on automotive parts which are in a very hostile environment. @@AndyDoz
When the board in my Axis started to go wonky looked into the Origin Live motor replacement and decided to take the plunge. Installation of the OL motor with power supply was simple and chucked the entire board (well sold it for parts) kept the old on/off switch for looks and I haven't looked back. It is an excellent mod and not expensive if you buy the basic kit.
hello, I have a Linn Axis which starts well but the speed is random. I can start a disk correctly then the speed reduces. I don't know where this could come from. I haven't had one for several months. and the time before I forgot to turn it off and it ran non-stop for 4 months. could this come from the capacitors? Many Thanks
My Axis has the same issue. It’s been this way for a couple of years now and the little nudge to get it going has become second nature so I’ll stick with it for now.
If it's the electronics causing your issue, it would be prudent to sort it now. If the output caps start electrically leaking, they will shorten the life of the motor and eventually cause failure. A stitch in time ...
So many of the Linnie's are suckered in by this very average design from the 55 years or so it was ripped off from Ariston AD11, which in today's terms are hughly over priced and underperfoming £3k for an aluminum sub chassis a new high spec version is £18K lol. I've given up dealing with TT's now its a lost cause. Fine for nostalgia and those who's been listening form over three millenia its a way of life. Also those who are convinced of analogue superior. Not going to change them and Andy is doing a sterling job here as always. Must admit I did invest in some deicated 4K cameras one for the scope and pair of really nice ones for dual overhead imnspection of smd boards. Keep up the content Andy always good! You could use a high voltage differenical probe on your Tek for those isolated readings you need to make, just a suggestion.
Thanks for the concern. I've suffered since I was 14, but it is getting worse. I have consulted my doctor recently, and I have an appointment with a neurologist in a few months. It's a huge frustration and embarrassment. Thanks again.

The tonearm cable is being held in by a 1.5 mm grub screw on the side of the arm pillar.

The Valhalla was similar.l, you can see the heritage. The original was just a phase cap and a resistor....

Best of luck!

@@audibleeleganceinc for sure. The board & soldering quality was awful from new.

nice work

That's weird. I would start there. Evening when "off" everything is still running on that board except the output.
My hunch was that dual wind motor.
Same motor can be had from allied motion. Previously branded Premotec

Thanks for your video .. I have the exact same fault .. even the same phase on the motor .
Good luck.
I love that, Part of the Fun, I’d be saying Son of a Bitch 🤬
nice work. a perfect example of Linn's piss-poor products.

You need a stiff drink my son .
... And I'll still have a tremor.
excuse the invasion of privacy but you are a bit shaky - Parkinson's is treatable if discovered early. Sorry if you are just wobbly. Worth it though.

@@AndyDoz Ah, sorry to hear. Glad you are looking into it and don't feel down, your hands have done so much more than most.
