They sang 22 songs with one costume change.
At 7300 feet in Mexico City! "It gets hard to breathe..."
Leave it to homesick little 15 year old Dany to write this timeless classic song. This song will truly live on for generations touching people. She had a homework assignment during their last week at the Berklee College of Music to write an original song and she had no idea what to write. Even with her family there, this was the longest they had ever been away from home and she was very homesick. Then she managed to channel those feelings and ended up with this song.
Yes, this is the same concert, they did a wardrobe change during an intermission break half way through - black in the first half and white in the second half. The intermission itself was also such a beautiful moment that I hope gets its own video.
They released the entire show for certain Patrons on Patreon and I can confirm that they started the concert in black outfits, then there was an intermission in the middle of the show, where they played Pau's song Breathe from a backing track, while they changed to white outfits.
It's absolutely fantastic to realize that TW's songs are full of gorgeous detail.
In this one you can see Dany's bright and very sentimental voice (note it's the only song without harmonies or choruses) and the incredibly beautiful guitar sound of her solo.
Ale, as always, with an exact and perfect mastery of her bass…
But I love them and I want to highlight Pau's different attacks on his drums,
these add another dimension to this very emotional piece.

She has a very Joe Perry or Brian May vibe on the guitar, it's more about the song and not showing off the skills. Simple but effective guitar fills, the best kind, imo.
A perfect rock song written last minute as a homework assignment. Homesick, fighting with her muse, missing her friends…I can’t listen to When I’m Alone and not feel it deeply. It is so relatable…and very special to Dany.
This was written at a time when they were still dreaming about making it as a band and just after their Enter Sandman cover went viral. There was so much buzz that they ended up on Ellen and that got them to Berklee College of Music (where they were so young they needed special permission to attend).
Picture yourself a kid, away from your home country, your friends, your culture and chasing your dreams. Are you good enough? Will you hack it as a musician, a songwriter, a singer?
And, when your back is against the wall the night before your assignment is due you write When I’m Alone. It’s a special song written by an amazingly talented, humble and beautiful soul.
It may well be my favorite song, ever.

I like your comment about Dany's guitar solo. Someone else was saying something similar, which is that she's not trying to flex and show off by creating something super complicated. She created something that fits the song.
They got to play this in Boston before they left Berklee. The applause from fellow students was raucous! They played it at their 2017 TEDx Talk at University of Nevada. THAT version is epic. I like this version better, technically, but the TEDx presentation was special because it was so unexpected by the audience. Dany doesn't write many songs, but when inspired, like Pau, she kicks maximum ass.
One of my favorites, always thought it had a 90s pop/punk feel, but in fact it's just timeless perfection.
Almost sounds like a movie soundtrack. They may write a screenplay one day. Watch out! Lol
Interesting because I don't get that feeling at all. XXICB is definitely a punk pop song straight out of The Offspring's library, but this to me feels more like if Meatloaf was reincarnated into a young female guitarist who learned to make 3 1/2 minute songs instead of 8 minute songs.😋
We all have our different memories and references we fall back on s o everyone's perception will be different.

Almost brings me to tears
A 15 year old Dany was feeling homesick towards the end of their 6 weeks stint at Berklees in summer of 2015. On top of that she had a new song to submit the following day as part of homework. And she had nothing ready; not even in the mood to create anything. Totally down but not out Dany composed When I'm Alone through that night. The reason this song is so special to her. Last month in Madrid she somehow managed to hold back her tears when the Spanish crowd joined in to sing When I'm Alone in English. So much so that at the end an anxious Pau asked her whether she was okay while Ale looked on with concern.

I've only listened to the studio track once or twice and kinda bounced off of it, but I'm glad I watched this live version. This has so much more heart and soul to it. The Warning is great enough they should do a live album and play this for that because this is so much better. I really enjoyed the live version. Thanks for sharing!
Like your Eric Clapton reference. Reminds me of an old interview Eric gave talking about how he would think of the guitar as an an extra voice and Dany said almost the exact same thing about making a solo 🤘⚡

Totally agree with you about the solo and couldn't have put it any better myself. It's kind of a trademark of theirs. They don't have a ton of solos in songs but when they do have one it is because it is exactly what the song calls for and fits perfectly within it.
I was going to say the Leslie West shool of solo playing. Whatever is right for the song. Boom.
BTW, the 1st half of concert was done in black costumes, and 2nd in white!
Check out this old video of them introducing the lineup for the Mother of All Rock Fest several years back. They are more than capable of playing... pretty much what they want.

You completely get it about dany's solos she does more about feel than showing off and doing a shredfest even though she can totally do that too.
This is the first part of the concert (black outfits) they later take a break. (Play the audio "Breathe" on PA) the come back wearing white.

Late to the party but pretty sure the concert release is a composite of two shows. They definitely did two shows. They sold out the first show at Teatro very quickly so the promoter added a second show. I think black is one night and white is the other. It threw me for a while.

Sometimes it's the little things... no vocal harmonies here, because she's alone. I think this is the only song without them. They also rarely do a solo, but if you're going to write a song about being alone, you kinda need to have a solo don't you? Does anyone else smell melons here?
